1. I was in Sofia in Bulgaria a couple of weeks back. I visited Music Division and met Boris, the manager there. They have a great collection of Warwicks on the wall. Boris is a nice guy and would be well worth contacting. You can find Music Division at: www.musicdivision.bg BTW Bulgaria is inside the EU, so there's no import duty either. (Until we Brexit!)
2. https://www.amazon.co.uk/JTDEAL-Display-Electric-Acoustic-Mandolin/dp/B01IT14IFO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474899149&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=Guitar+Wall+Hanger%2C+JTDEAL+Wall+Mount+Hanger&psc=1 Cool. That looks cool. But as Rhys says:
The hanger is only as good as the wall you attach it to. I had a Hercules wall hanger come away from the wall despite using screws & plugs that should easily have held it. Put a big dent in my Precision & didn't do much for the Strat it landed on either. I only use floor stands now.
I've got plasterboard walls - the answer in my house is to use no-nails to stick some wood to the wall, then mount on that. Don't know as I want to do that too much though. It could end up with wood blocks all over the place. It's floor-stands for me too.
3.
It could be that some of the caps in the preamp has dried out, or otherwise expired. You might be able to get a replacement pre amp from a parts bass quite cheaply, and swaps the pres. I always used the pre on the thunder i used to have, mainly leaving a little bit counter-clockwise of the notch to give it a controlled bass boost. In its last incarnation, I had it strung with think flats, and played reggae and dub with it. The pre really made a difference there
Many thanks. You could well be right. I guess though, if the caps in mine have dried, than most other pre's from Thunders can't be far behind. In an ideal world I would know the values of the caps and buy new, but we don't live in an ideal world.
4.
Thanks all for advice.I found these on Amazon https://www.amazon.c...f=navm_hdr_cart
I'm sure that's great and good luck with it... whatever it is. The link to your shopping cart doesn't work for us, but good luck
5.
I think you might struggle to find anything cheaper for a 50K stack pot - another option is remove the active on/off toggle and enlarge the hole to take another pot. Are you keeping the dual tone (coil tap) toggle?
That's a thought. The other switch doesn't really do much. So it wouldn't be much of a loss. I'd like to keep one of the switches as a passive/active switch.
6.
Seems too obvious but have you tried changing the battery? I had one years ago and IIRC when the battery was low the bass sounded like it was through a distortion pedal...
Thanks Mick, but yes, I think the pre-amp may be beyond repair really.
7.
You could try a treble/bass stacked pot then you'd use the existing three holes for vol, treb/bass, mid if you go for a three band preamp.
Fair point. Do you know where I can get a stacked pot with 50K impedance on each? Best Bass Gear in the USA do one, but you're looking at $19 plus shipping and taxes.

9. But Vanson Guitars sell 2 types as well. They sell the NEW Wilkinson WPB AlNiCo V Bass Pickups for PB at £22.95 NEW Wilkinson MWPB Bass Guitar Pickups for 'PB' type guitars at £15.90 JHS have http://www.jhs.co.uk...ass-pickup-pair - £37 WILKINSON ALNICO V BASS PICKUP - PAIR http://www.jhs.co.uk...ass-pickup-pair - £28 WILKINSON P-STYLE ACTIVE BASS PICKUP - PAIR It seems to me the Alnico ones are probably the same. The MWPB don't seem to be on the JHS site, they're also on Amazon as "not currently available", so maybe they're old stock.
10.
You bought fake Chinese made Elixir strings, which are sold from many sellers on websites like aliexpress and so on. What else could I tell when their retail price is lower than a wholesale price of original? Buy only from the stores who specialized in selling strings or musical instruments, not from the people who sell a few string sets from home. Hope it will help
Unfortunately too many people are quick to act and snap up a "bargain", thinking the other resellers are too greedy. It's a fact of life that quality costs. After all, if the Elixir strings last 2-3 times longer, have a great feel and give less hassle of re-stringing, they're still a good price. Nice site you have there. I'll try to remember to contact you when I need strings.
11. Now up on Ebay as an auction. Ends next Sunday.
12. Nice one. The "relic" looks quite genuine. Good work.
13. The amp I'm using is a Little Mark 3. I played through the same amp and never had any problems with everything turned up full. I could turn up the volume full and crank the Active tone back and forth all the way and no problem. A day or so later the active tone is distorted when volume is at 1/4 and whatever I do with the active tone control. It is not a case of my Little Mark 3 at low volume can't handle the gain of the Westone. The LM3 is fine with all other basses. The problem is still there when I play the Thunder through either my Roland cube or my Vox headphone plug thing. Yesterday I got a replacement op amp IC and changed that thinking that had gone high gain. That made no difference. Thanks guys, but I'm thinking of either go through the wiring for a bad joint, or rip it out and either go passive or fit a new pre amp to have bass-mids-treble. After all, the WT1A pre is quirky but does anyone actually play using it?
14. Hi all, I've been mucking about with the pre-amp in my Thunder. At the moment it's distorted in active mode. It sounds like it's going through a Big Muff. I'm struggling to find the problem. What I'd like to ask is does anyone actually play using the pre-amp in a Westone Thunder 1A? To me the function is quirky, but not a useful as a simple bass/mid/treble would be. To change it to this, I'd need to rout and drill another hole, but would this make it more user friendly? Thoughts?
15. That first Yamaha looks nice - nice clean fret-lines. But he's in Cornwall and won't post!!! How frustrating
16. Right now I have a bass in my possession. It sounds amazing. I'd love to buy it from the owner, but it would be rude to ask; he loves it too. As we all know, the wood and the thickness of the neck do absolutely nothing to add to the tone. The strings are the same as I already use on my basses. The pickup is a Wilkinson. I don't know the actual one, but I'm guessing. So with that I went to look at prices: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Wilkinson-WPB-AlNiCo-V-Bass-Pickups-for-PB-type-guitars-Precision-/122085873533?hash=item1c6ce2977d:g:Wq8AAOxyiSlSUYv2 http://www.jhs.co.uk/brands/wilkinson/wilkinson-alnico-v-bass-pickup-pair Here you'll see there's a massive difference in the prices. Does the gathered BC community think they're the same?
17. If I were you, looking in that budget range, I'd try to find a "used" one. If you can, though, be careful about buying one that's been de-fretted by the user there are many people out there doing it, not really knowing what they're doing. If you're good with tools and working an instrument, you may do well to buy a low-cost fretted and do what Jaco did.
18. This bridge comes in a wide variety of widths and different mounting hole positions. I think a bit more info is needed, if it is still for sale. On an aside - why don't folk who advertise, follow their own for-sale threads?

Rewinding pickups

If I were you, I'd take a look on evilbay for some Wilkinsons. I've got a bass here belonging to another BCer. It has a Wilkinson split pickup and sounds fantastic.
20. Hey good luck with the new life in the USA. TBH, to sell these you will really need pictures. But also, due to shipping costs maybe TB might be better for you for selling now? Good luck.
21. Nice bass. GLWTS. For those on a mobile, Bob is in Epsom I believe.
22. In an ideal world, your fingers will be flat, spaced for 1 finger per fret and close to the fingerboard at all times. Each finger will be vertical; parallel to the frets at all times. The curvature in your fingers is a sign of tension that you're better off not having. Good luck with achieving all of that. I'm also still working on that too.
23. Not that I've ever defretted a neck; but, why would you sand it before filling the slots? All I would do is clean off any catchy bits, but you should be wanting all the slot edges to stay sharp. The sanding would be after the veneer is in place.
24.
Any trades? Or are you after a straight sale? Either way, it's a stunner!
Hmm.. Dunno. I was thinking of withdrawing. What are you offering? Let's PM
