1. Still here. All ready for shipping to you for the weekend, Sir!
2.
Thank you. I'm looking to purchase my first serious bass in this price range. Its a toss up between a MIM Jazz or Warwick. Having real trouble deciding. Have tried a few jazz's but no Warwicks. The Warwick's look so well built and i love the growl. Was hoping you were basesd in London although Oxford is not that far. The versatilty of the Fender is a real pull for me, warm tones & slapabilty. Not sure how the Warwick fits these critera. Trying to find one locally to play...Its active right! but does it have a passive mode as well. Sorry I'm not an expert on guitars.
Hi Tony, London is a big place, so I don't know where you are, but if you'd like to take a short trip up the M11 I've got 3 Warwicks you can try out. I also have a couple of other basses y you can try out.
3. LOL, I know the feeling. I'm selling a Thumb. I've got the saddles adjusted out to 19mm, but it's on the neck that I find I fret the wrong strings and it all falls apart. Somehow I can groove on a 4, but not on a 5.. GLWTS
4. Sold a drum machine to Sid. Nice easy transaction... as you would expect. Many thanks Sid!
5.
This 100 percent, my advice for what it's worth make sure your rigg and bass are to a similar standard. Try as many basses amps and combinations as you can, make friends with your local music shops, they can be invaluable in helping you land on a bargain.
When I try a bass I take my amp with me. You need to have a "known" entity in the chain.
6. I'd like the book for 27th August as Mrs G and I have some time off and Mrs G would like to read it.
7. Hey, you missed this. So I'll just remind you...
8.
Cheers chaps I'm never far away & probably no need to send me the bits, a solderless wiring kit means you can change/fit new pick ups in minutes, with no burnt fingers
Now where's the fun in that!?!
9. This is currently with essexbasscat
10.
SOLD.
Perhaps you could mark the heading as "Sold"? Thanks
11. I once put a switch on a bass to switch between 0.1 and 0.047 capacitors. Both were orange drop caps. I didn't notice any real difference between the 2. As I understand it, the difference will mainly be in the amount you need to turn the pot to achieve a reduction in the treble with the filtering. I guess if you were to attach an oscilloscope to the circuit, the difference in the waveform may be considerable, but IMHO, it's not a biggie. That said, I mostly keep the tone wound right open. So if I built a bass I possibly wouldn't have a tone control at all. So maybe I'm not the person to ask.
12. PayPal payment these days can also be by "pay friends" to do it with no fees either way.
13. http://www.wood-finishes-direct.com/product/fiddes-wax I would use a good clear wax polish. Its probably similar to Axwax, but a lot cheaper by volume.
14. JUst bought some tuning heads from Chris. Transaction went smoothly and got fast delivery. All good. Many thanks Chris
15.
Probably no room to fit the ledger lines and the notator thought.........."sod it, it's only the bass that'll do"
Or, more like, "it's only bass, no doubt the ignorant ******s can't read notation anyway, they'll all just follow the Tab/TAB/tab."
16.
Well, you really do learn something every day! I don't think it's broken at all!! Spector's brilliant design has saved the day! The truss rod is a free-floating/friction held unit, that sits in a channel in the neck below the fingerboard and acts like a bow. What I think has happened, and confirmed by the good people in the Spector Nation FB group is; In pitch, the truss rod was held fine. As we've dropped the tuning, the string tension dropped and the neck straightened, loosening up the truss rod unit. The tension nut may not be moving freely and the end has slid out, making it look like the rod (in usual anchored types) has snapped inside the neck! Loosened off, the truss rod should slide right out of the neck to be worked on or replaced. This is the 1st time I've heard of this type of truss rod, it's frickin' genius! I can get a complete replacement unit from the States for $25 plus shipping if need be! Excuse the pun but.....what a relief!!
Great news. Now, if your tech had known that already you wouldn't have gone grey in the space of this afternoon.
17. In a blatant effort to de-rail this thread... Can I please ask this here as I don't see this as a good subject for a whole thread on it's own. Here's a section from a book, of which I'm doubtfully the lucky owner. Take a look at where it goes from bars 2 to 3. According to the score, the note stays consistent. Yet the TAB/tab/Tab changes by an octave... Don't you love books? Listening to the Beatles track, to me it sounds like a change in chord, but something here isn't right. Are all books as doubtful as this? Or is this book a real gem?
