Si [/quote] On the One10 also, the port is on a side with feet. In my use, in my lounge at home the sound does become muffled when standin the cab on that side, on a table top. Alex will be along soon I'm sure. So I'll be interested in his comments. Maybe in a gig situation this muffled sound doesn't matter, but in use I would only use it laying down horizontally as the sound is much more clear and clean.

    In London we were treated by some guy in the audience going on stage to play with them. Some guy called Janek Gwizdala. He'd brought a Fodera, but Vic and Anthony didn't sign his bass though. They also played Earth Wind a Fire in London too.

[/quote] With a rosewood neck the wood isn't lacquered, so the grain is open to getting Solvol in the little spaces in the wood. You Maple neck is lacquered so it should be ok, but masking tape over the wood will protect it against rubbing and getting any cleaner on it. When cleaning only use a small bobble of cleaner at a time. No need to go mad with it.

Is it wood, or is it plastic, like the binding on some guitars? If in doubt, if you must strip it, scrape that section with a blade - don't want to wreck any plastics with paint stripper.

    Don't be tempted to use any furniture spray "polish". Sprays contain silicone. Those things leave the surface sticky and will cause it to get dirty again faster. They also make it near impossible to spray with paint or lacquer at anytime in the future.

    It sounds like it will all be lacquered or painted then. For the most part, wipe it over with a damp cloth. Use very little water/moisture. You could put a spot of washing up liquid on the cloth; not much. Dry it off with an old towel, then polish the metal parts. Solvol is good for the metal.

    If you are going to strip it, then keep away from a heat gun. Strip the bass right down of all its finery and use small amounts of Nitro mores paint stripper. Then finish off with scraping the final bits with a sharp blade. Then sand off with really fine grit paper. Then you can finish off with Boiled Linseed oil. Other oils are available, but some include a mix of varnish. So you want to keep clear of those which will leave you with a gloss finish. When applying oil, put the oil on, wipe it over the surface and wipe it off. Don't leave pools of it to soak in. Manton Customs may be along in a minute. He may have some words of wisdom to add.

[/quote] Take it to a professional furniture polisher and get them to spray it with semi-matt lacquer. You can discuss with them the %age of sheen you want. They may also offer the option of sanding it lightly with 3500grit paper, or something like that. But a pro can advise you when they see it.

    In my lounge at home I use an LM3 and a Barefaced One10. The tone has loads of bass, it handles the full range of tones well. It would also handle a pub-sized gig too. And... it's small! No regrets here. It's not low-budget. But from what you say it doesn't sound like you're looking for a low-budget solution. Oh, and btw... Welcome to BC, Kristian.

    Have you tried wiring the pup straight to the jack as suggested?

    Check the space between the pups and the strings. If the space is too big this will make it quiet. There is no such thing as the pups being worn out. Some windings of the coil could go short-circuit, but the chances of this is very slim. The higher chance is a setup issue.

    It might help if we know if the wood is oiled or painted or lacquered. Is the neck rosewood or maple? Metal cleaner for the frets, but mask off the wood before you do that.

    I've had this happen a few times. It happened last night too. In my case it's the E and D. I have found that taking them off and refitting them fixes it, or on other occasions I've found it resolved itself after a few days. It's probably just the thicker metal having to bed itself in to the nut or bridge.

    This thread is inspired by another started by MB1, who's looking for a case for an amp. What do you carry your gear about in? Pedals on a board are great, but if you only have a few, what do you do to stop them getting scratched in transit? I had a pedal once. Kept it in a camera case. My MB LM3 travels in a soft, zip close laptop case. It's enough for protecting it while it goes in with leads and stuff. What have you used that's low-cost, easy to get and useful?

I personally like that height at the 1st, when it's fretted at the 3rd.
