Is this measurement with the string UN fretted? If so it could be a bit low, but does it Buzz? If it feels good, do it!

Many thanks, but problem solved. I picked up some used Squier tuners.
I see you've crossed Angela Merkel off the list then ...
And Boris is avoiding questions on this and other subjects too. -
So lets keep things simple. It the strings are pulling one way and the truss rod is counter acting that, what would the result be with a change in moisture? Plus if damp wood expands, would it make the wood spongier and less rigid?
It would make it more prone to movement. Movement can include warping can include more irregular change in shape than you describe. It can also include splitting in the woods or separation in the pieces of wood. Over all its not recommended as a way to fix any kind of problem if that's what you are thinking. Why the question?
Any idea odf the size of the bushes on the Wilkinson tuners? Looking for a set for a 5 String Squire CV P Bass.
I'm also looking for tuners for a bass with a Squier-sized headstock. So I believe, like mine, you would need to ream the holes in the body to be a little larger. That said, I did find the Wilkinson spigots fitted neatly into to bushes from the original tuners. The problem I have, though, is the headstock on my bass is the same size as the Squier one - too small to take the Wilkinsons, unless you're prepared to ream off a mm or 2 on each end of the plate. Fenders have bigger headstocks than Squiers. So regrettably the Wilkinsons are really suited to a Fender. What I have found is the Grover Vintage style: https://www.grotro.com/Grover/BASS They're the right size for a smaller headstock. But they sell in the UK for £60. This might be a tiny bit rich for a Squier or similar. Sorry if this is negative to your sale, Dood. But I know you're an honest and open guy. GLWTS

There is a lot of love here for the Seymour Duncan pups. SPB-3. Although the SPB-1 gives a more punchy sound. You might also like the hand-wound pups from Jess Lourierio. At 50 Euro a set they're a bargain. I've got a set. They're good. http://jlguitars.eu/shop/index.php?id_product=11&controller=product&id_lang=4

Many thanks. I appreciate your point there. I did consider that, but if I can I'd rather have tuners that actually fit. Since posting I've now found an old set of Squier tuners that are the size I need. My problem now is I only have 3 of them as one of the originals had a rattle in the clover-leaf. The Squier ones are a tad bigger, but they'd do. The other option I've come across is Grover Vintage. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/262227259390?lpid=122&chn=ps&googleloc=1006528&poi=&campaignid=207297426&device=c&adgroupid=13585920426&rlsatarget=pla-131843260866&adtype=pla&crdt=0 £63 is a fair bit to pay for tuners for a £50 bass, but I guess I can always strip it down before selling. And they are (or claim to be) good, or rather the best.

Hi there, I'm in the process of working on a cheap p bass copy, improving it. The current tuning heads grind as I turn them. Also , as they're turned they either tighten or loosen the screw that holds the big cog depending upon which way you turn the clover leaf. I've bought Wilkinson heads and found they're too big. Can anyone please recommend some good, suitable replacements? The existing ones have a 19mm hole and the plate measures 45mm long.

Hi BruceBass, Good luck with the build. What sort of sound do you enjoy? Do you like the Jamerson deeper tone or a more aggressive, Musicman type sound?

4 string or 5? That's wide for a 4 -
Sorry! If you're handy with a soldering iron then building an a/b switch is a pretty simple job, all the parts are available on eBay and it shouldn't take you very long to wire it up Matt
That's a good point. Thanks
I can't help you with how to get this apart but my first thought was to ask how you are trying to use this? The fs-6 is designed to switch external things, usually to replace a channel footswitch for an amp or to switch 2 different things like an amp channel and a pedal trigger, if you are trying to use it to switch between 2 instruments or between 2 amps then unfortunately you have the wrong piece of kit. Matt
Hi Matt, I'd actually hoped this thread was buried and forgotten. A while after posting i watched a review of the pedal anD worked out that this thing isn't designed for doing what I'd hoped. Many thanks for your help though.

At least you can honestly say that better basses than that one have been stripped and sold before it. Onward and upward
It's not shifting. I was going to buy a loom from KiOgon for it. I think it'll be for my old red J-knockoff instead. Shame.
Sorry to hear that mate.
Has anyone actually signed up for his tutorials online. I'm a little confused. I've just started a 14 day trial, but after that it's $168!. I thought it was just Scott and his bass lessons.? Not the SBL academy.?
$168 was, when I signed, about £100. That equates to about 4 one to one lessons. That strikes me as reasonable.

I paid about £100 for the first year and then about £200 to top it up to a,lifetime membership. But get in fast as the pound is dropping and Scott charges in dollars!

This might help a bit.
My bass sounded like poo tonight. I just assumed it was me having an off day, but this does happen on occasion. Never considered the weather.
... or me having an off day too.
-
Hmmmmm have had hot weather play havoc with the tuning on my jazz bass but with regards tone I don't have this problem with any of my basses. Did anything else change, like had you cleaned the strings in between playing etc?
Fair point, but no, I'd not cleaned the strings on either occasion. Just been playing with it just now.... there's a possibility it could be my being a klutz with my new compressor. Sorry!!

Ok, joking aside. I've just put my 4-string P-bass into a Hiscox. On the tuner side, there is, on mine a good amount of space. Where the +1 tuner would be, there is a reasonable amount of space. This space varies as the bass can move a bit. The tuners on mine project about 45mm from the side of the headstock. It's possible that the space in the case, at the other side of the headstock could be about 45mm, but the tuner would be permanently against the side of the case. If you're looking for a case for general carrying about, it would probably be ok. If you're looking at this as being an insurance against damage if it were dropped on that corner - find another case.
