1.
Based on what evidence!? Why? Are we talking modern classical guitars? Modern acoustic guitars in general? All modern guitars?
I must get round to asking him sometime. He's talking about acoustic instruments. It surprised me. It may be a matter of his personal preference about feel, tbh I don't know.
2.
So old bad, new good? Guess thats why a Stradivarius is next to worthless, why a 1952 Precision is unsalable, why vintage Aston Martins sit unwanted in damp garagea and no one drinks anything other then Beaujolais Nouveau. As for those old valves, don't even start......
Old violins can get better with age. A pro classical guitarist friend tells me a modern guitar has only about a 10 year useful life. Wrt electric instruments, do the electronics improve with age? I've not noticed this.
3. I've got one of these. It has an auxiliary input. Making it good for both keys and bass playing into the same amp for home use.
4.
Exactly the same for me.
I think what makes it confusing is that we want to give good, useful data. Yet we get thrown by the questioner asking for information that we think will be useless without knowing more about the person's skills and knowledge. There's a question about playing speed. No details there on if this is purely playing speed or whilst sight reading. Also, if sight reading, is it with prior knowledge of the piece, or from cold? The OP may want to re-think this and have another go.
5. Finished on 3rd attempt. I got confused when it asked what keys you can play in. If you don't read (which wasn't asked) you can play in any key with equal proficiency. What confused me here was did the questioner appreciate this? I think the OP may not have thought about this.
6. Great thread this. But isn't this phenomenon what happens when we, who are in our prime and full-time employment, have the resources to go and buy whatever our hearts desire, irrespective of having the ability to play it. We also tell ourselves we crave variety of different instruments, so we gain a collection of the things. Besides we all know that no matter how bad I sound on the basses i own there is obviously one bass out there somewhere which will unleash my true potential and the world will at last appreciate my true ability. I'm just hoping that mine is a nice Gear4music LA bass that's on its way from EBay that I got for £45.
7.
thanks. where do you actually put the varnish? inside? or at the head of the screw?
Take out the screw, put a dab on the thread and put it back in and tighten. That's how I've used "Loctite Threadlock" anyway.
8.
I would love to hear my TC BH550 through a One10. I think I might actually die from it though.
Come to the Herts Bass Bash, with your amp and try mine out.
9. I too hAve Ariane's book. It's great and covers a lot of ground. At this stage I would use it as something to dip in and out of. It will be a book that stays with you for a long time. Ariane's videos are great. You might also like to visit studybass.com. There are some great lessons there. Also, enrol for a free trial period of Scottsbasslessons.com Academy. Scott does a load of free stuff on YouTube, but the subscription material is a whole league above the free stuff. The cost of subscription is about the same as 4 1-2-1 lessons, and for thst you get hundreds of hours of info and videos. I've been playing for about 6 years and I find the more rewarding music to play is making up my own 12 bar blues lines. It may not be for everyone, but it does provide the basis of the bass lines in a lot of music. A good book to start with on this is John Liebman's Blues Bass: The Complete Method. After you have a few blues lines learned and some knowledge of scales and harmony you can really help your playing move on.
10. Nice basses. Love the Courage one. Have a bump. For anyone on a mobile, they're in Lincoln.
11. I bought some on eBay. £2.99 for 4. The seller was locost50. The description is "Rubber Feet with built in washer 25mm dia x 11mm deep" Good luck
12.
If Lozz is bringing his tone hammer along, I'll try and roll up with my Reidmar for comparisons, don't have anything really interesting to bring though
You'd be surprised at what is interesting. What you find is mediocre someone else may find interesting. After all, what music shop out of the few well known stores in London, has even a couple of Fender USA P basses to try? Most will have 1 MIM, a couple of Squiers, a handful of Ibanez or Yamahas and that's about it.
13. I pass through Harrow on my travels and also meander through much of the South of this island for work. So if anyone is interested and want it collected and delivered, feel free to let me know. I can also do a "cash on collection" and get the money to our bro, Chilliwailer, if you're worried about such things.
14.
To say that one or two of these cabs will be enough for ANY situation could be slightly misleading..I've certainly done plenty of gigs where a big rig was needed , especially big outdoor stages. In my opinion of course.
There had to be 1 didn't there. Phur! Anyone knows you need 3 to play the O2!
15. These are good basses too. I've got one. I was just curious.
16.
I don't think I've seen one second hand yet.
Funny that. I've seen a Two10 secondhand. I wonder what they bought after? A One10 perhaps?
17. For those looking at this on a mobile, this bass is in Poland. GLWTS
18.
Right... who's got a pair of these they can bring to the herts bash?
I'm taking a One10 to the Herts bass bash. Sorry, I don't have 2. I'm also expecting to be in Camden week after next.
19. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/282917-fs-nanyo-bass-collection-sb310-wh-seymour-duncan-3eq-preamp-l100/page__fromsearch__1 This one sounds good.
20.
Seriously tho what can you actually do with that? Two strings is pushing it but what can you do on one string?
Country.
21. The Vox Clubman bass was about in the 60s. That was a short scale with steel strings and a neck with no truss-rod. The bass was made in Dartford, Kent and the neck made by Ercol, the furniture factory. But that's another story. However, I've got a Clubman from '64 and the neck is still fine. But that should be fitted with light weight strings. This one might be ok with light weight strings too.
22. I think you'll find there are many areas of the country with few bass teachers. You could try the Scottsbasslessons.com Academy. There are no end of resources there. It very good value.
23. Thanks Stance. I'm in the SBL academy and still not seen a lot of those interviews. Thanks for the reminder.
