Warhammer games shops sell really small drill bits. You might need to buy a drill tool, that for this will be next to useless, but the drill bits will be small enough as long as your drill chuck will take the really small bits.

The title says about it. I had a 5er and it was fitted for a short time. I sold the 5er and changed the strings back and fitted the 4 to another bass I have. So I now have a redundant B string. It's an 0.135 I believe. PM me and it's all yours. Rich
I couldn't really stop the gig and go and get a battery, so I plugged in a passive Fender. Problem solved, Warwick sold. Extreme example and certainly nothing to do with the quality of Warwicks, I just won't use them after that. Superstitious nonsense I'm sure.
"PPPPPP", as they say: Poor Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance. You should sack your Guitar Tech! TBH, I'm sure that's why a lot of live gigs are done using Fenders - cheap passive bass that is serviceable and cheap to replace (in relative terms).

I take my hat off to you for "retiring" them. Most folk sell and buy another almost identical bass to the one just sold. Not that it achieves anything much, but it keeps evilbay rolling on.

He's at it again...Vintage Marlin Content :)
Grangur replied to Chiliwailer's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I sold mine for about 120. 250 is a real joke. Only the best solid tone woods were chosen for the original German Marlins, the one on sale also has a beautiful flamed North-American maple neck. Cool! I'll sell the 'wicks then and get this! ...Contoured heavy Alder body.... Funny thing is, when I stripped the body of mine to re-paint it, it was blocks of wood with a thick laminate either side. How does he know this isn't too. In fairness, mine was a good bass. But he is over selling it. -
Just to confirm before closing, the bass that has sold was the following:- FS/FT: Fender 62 Reissue Jazz Bass - http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d6/mikkel-s/IMG_9216_zpsbxgzzhs3.jpg ?? Have you ever heard or read of anyone not liking a Barefaced cab? You could go and try a Barefaced cab. There's a guy near you with a Big Baby II http://barefacedbass.com/barefaced-map.htm Also, I've got a One10 and will be staying over near Exeter on Wednesday night.
It depends on the bass really, there are some superb basses that are now classed as vintage that aren't Fenders.
Why does everything have to revolve round Fenders? You're the first to bring a specific manufacturer of bass into the subject. Has Fender got a copyright on the word "vintage". If so, what word do we now use for an old instrument? I'm out of here.
New pickups and les paulish pickguard arrived... Picking up the bass to take home this weekend and then its off to build diaries! Thanks for all the advice!
Cool! Looking forward to seeing it.

You asked about the wonky pickup. To make the bass easy to play and give good intonation, when setting up, the strings are all adjusted to be the same height above the curved finger board. So this puts the strings at different heights in a curved shape, following the radius of the finger board. The next step is to set the pups at the right height from the strings. As the strings are in a curved shape, the precision pup can be set so that too is curved.

Flea's National Anthem at Lakers vs. Jazz

On the matter of "relevance", surely all successful bass players should be relevant to all of us. You don't have to LIKE their music particularly. There are whole swathes of music from my teen years I don't like. I'm not a great Jaco fan either, or in to Larry Graham. But I still think they're relevant to me as a student of the craft of playing bass. Maybe I only think this because I'm still finding my feet in the craft? -
https://instagram.com/p/BEg9HCpOQSo/
That's a much better result. If you have a single underneath, don't forget you can get rid of most dings by placing a wet cloth over the dings and heating up the wood with a steam-iron or soldering iron. This works even better if you make small cuts in the wood along the grain.

In the linked video he doesn't appear to be very impressed with the bass. No surprise that he's not been seen with it since.
Well this may not be the most scientific experiment in the world, but it's the best I have. I A / B volume tested the two amps with a decibel monitor placed about 20 foot away, 30 watts of Ampeg and the left, 300 watts of Mark bass on the right...(the Ampeg certainly wins out on sexiness!!) The Mark bass got to 94 / 95 decibels at about three quarters volume, it was sounding stressed and maxed out and I certainly wasn't going to take it any higher, and it didn't really get much louder after 12 o clock, and the quality of the sound was certainly degenerating. The Ampeg was quite happy being maxed out and sounded great from 1 through to 10, and that maxed out at 93 / 94 decibels, which I think is about 10% less volume than the Mark bass. As I said, not the most scientific test in the world, but tells a story, I've not gigged it yet, that comes next Saturday in a function room at a pub which will be a test as our drummer is not the quietest..... Oh, and my favourite channel,on the Ampeg is the 1964 channel which is only 25 watt......🤔 When I bought it off Beadster he said it was surprisingly loud, and he was right, gets me thinking about those watts though!,,
For the test to be fair, you did of course have only 1x 12" speaker connected in the Ampeg cab then?
-
I had a Westone Thunder 1a. Mine was fretted, but the active tone controls are amazing. I came to the conclusion that it's probably best suited to slapping, which isn't my scene. So I removed the batteries and used it in passive mode all the time. It sounds good passive IMHO. Maybe you need more of a boost in what you want to do. If so, as above, use an outboard pre?

Flea's National Anthem at Lakers vs. Jazz
I`ll drop this in here, as bad as Flea`s version of the American national anthem was, nothing can top this godawfull rendition of God Save The Queen...............take it away Lesley Garrett (skip to 1.20) https://www.youtube....h?v=-cIOH2KTn4c
Sorry, but if you book a female opera singer with no orchestra, that's what you get. -
Agreed My comment was generational and yes I was talking from my perspective. Like many of my heroes, McCartney, Joco, Rocco Prestia, Larry Graham, Stanley Clark, Chuck Rainy, Willie Weeks etc.. these guys are not relevant to some of the younger generations of bass players. I don't want to be critical of Flea, he's just not relevant to me. Blue
Going by the whistles and yells in the background in the recordings, I think there's a lot of folk there who don't see it as relevant. It may be that which could make Flea take it very casually and he may see it simply as a way to pay his way to some free tickets to the top-box and a few beers with the Lakers guys. We're really over analysing this. In this situation in the UK there would be silence. You might even hear a pin drop. I don't think the USA see it in the same way. -
Flea's National Anthem at Lakers vs. Jazz
Grangur replied to bluesparky's topic in General Discussion
Here's my take on it. Flea, a musician, a bass player - was invited to play a rendition of a famous tune to start a football game. He played what he felt in his heart, and heard with his ears. The tone he chose and the notes he chose were what he wanted to share. I am sorry that so many people didn't hear what he wanted to say. I am sorry that some people think his 'tone' was bad or wrong. I don't know which of the notes he played were planned, and which were improvised - I don't know whether he heard some of them as 'in' or some of them as 'out'. I do know he loves music, loves the bass and loves the Lakers - and I sure he loved what he did. I think he looked confident, focused and lost in the moment. That's all I ever want from music. Remember if you don't 'get' Miles Davis or One Direction or Flea - then perhaps you have something to learn. It's not the artist's duty to make you understand.
Fair comment. I guess also, that is what happens when you take a simple tune and try to do something unique and individual with it. Can't say I'm impressed that after the announcer said "remove you hats", he didn't. But could he have been nervous? Lack of confidence in what he'd "prepared"? Was it prepared? Had he forgotten what he'd prepared? If you asked him afterwards, would he say he was proud of it? What would YOU do? How about a few folk here post on this thread THEIR rendition of the "Stars & Stripes" ? (No, I'm no massive Flea fan either.) Need the music? If the "customer requirements" are lower prices then, if you're building in the west, then there's only so far you can go. If a factory worker in China earns £250 a month, that's always going to present a problem to a western commercial organisation. At this time, whatever you make in the west, you will never beat the Chinese on price until the worlds economy changes. But it is changing, slowly.
I don't have his talent or ability, it's why I'm still playing 76 four hour bar band level gigs annually after 50 years of playing. Blue
Alas, Sir, you have more ability than I will ever have in a lifetime as I don't have 50 years available to me.
