Model painters often use old t-shirts for buffing. I bought a pack of micro-mesh a few weeks ago, eight different grade sheets and half of them (the 4,000 to 12,000 grit) are smoother than the cloth backing on them!
Good point there about the t-shirt, I use them too for T-Cutting. If you use some other cloths you can get scratch marks as you use the T-Cut by the cloth scratching the surface. Also, with sandpaper, it's worth getting good branded products. The cheaper 'own branded' stuff from Halford or Home base etc, don't last as long. And, be careful and fussy in the sanding and preparation, it will save you money in paint. It's amazing how dimples and lines in the wood become apparent after the paint goes on.

In the past I went down the line of trying to protect designs. It's harder than you might think. The copyists only have to change the design slightly and the patent is no longer able to stop you. You can make the horn longer or the body wider/narrow and you have got round the copyright. The copyright on such this is also time limited. The main reason folk do tread carefully is not wanting the cost of a legal battle. Anyone could open a new company tomorrow called Microsoft, making a range of small sofas and upholstery and the IT group in the USA wouldn't be able to stop you. When you register the trademark you have to do so in each and every country you want it to apply for. You also have to define the business you're going to trade in. Btw, I'm assuming here thst Bill Gates friends haven't registered the trademark for furniture. You never know...

Mrs G and I have just got back from renting Mike's Yorkshire Dales cottage. It rained a lot. Even snowed on one occasion. So we didn't get out as much as we'd have liked, but we loved it. (Well, it is early April) We now know more of what we want to do when we go back again, and we'll be pleased to re-book with Mike. The cottage is really comfortable, warm, clean and a real home-from-home. Mike is a great guy to deal with too. Many thanks Mike!

Hi OP451, there's nothing to stop you using house paint, but prepared for being always being able to see the brush marks. I've sprayed a few and always used Halfords primer, paint, lacquer. For the rubbing down get hold of some super-fine sandpaper. If you get bits in the spray paint, don't always rush for the sandpaper - sometimes you can get rid of such bits by using the back of the sandpaper. Get a face mask to protect your lungs and take your time. Yes you can use T-Cut. Don't expect perfection. If you want perfection take it to a pro-spray shop; like a crash repairers, or French polishers. I once got quoted £100 for spraying a body. On reflection, with paint, sandpaper, time and the better finish, it's probably worth every penny, but don't let me stop you having fun. It is satisfying.
Why would you even post that?
No, even if she hadn't interupted I wouldn't post that. She gave the better performance in the film.
Generally they are hard to sell at cost - sellers usually make a loss. It seems to be more profitable to part them out. Bitsas are often quite specific to the maker, so their attraction to other people can be dubious.
Ditto An Encore plus fancy pups and bridge, is still an Encore, no matter how great it sounds and feels. I too like working on basses, but there's no money in it. You simply build a stupidly large collection of basses with little value.

Principle involved here or am I over reacting?
Grangur replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
There's a fair number of times that I have sat in a bar over a single pint watching a band and noticed that every one else is doing the same. Being a total sad case I've thought then, the takings won't be able to meet their costs. I can't blame the landlord for what he does. I'm with Discreet on this. Where the problem lies is "communication". He should have taken the time to communicate to you the facts. Or negotiate a deal of a fee plus "the glass". Sure you can refuse to play there again. so now you have one fewer venue available to you, and the pub gets a different band, or the big TV goes on. So who loses? -

If you're after vintage, rather than modern, then I'd be tempted to try those from jlguitars.com Jess Loureiro winds the pups by hand using the old methods and materials. I've got some on order right now. So I'm about to find out what they sound like. I've tried his 51 Precision pup and that was great. http://jlguitars.eu/shop/index.php?id_cms=7&controller=cms&id_lang=4
I've emailed the poster to local studios and music shops. Coda Music in Stevenage will be displaying it for us..hopefully others will too
Cool. Good luck.
Mick, for best results I'd need an image of slightly better quality for the Facebook event on Basschat's page - the resolution of this one is pretty low. I'll create the FB event in a week or two.

The photo is quite grainy unfortunately...
If you want to grab attention, posters work better with Black print on a white background. Also, if anyone is to print it, that image will eat ink like there's no tomorrow. Sorry, Mick!

Which Strings? Constructive String advice please
.... The instrument you own will have its own characteristic sound. A Streamer LX and Thumb Bass for instance are much more aggressive sounding than a Streamer Stage 1 or Dolphin Pro 1.
Many thanks DiMarco, for your very detailed post. Totally de-railing the thread; I have both a Streamer LX (fretless) and a Streamer Stage 1 (fretted). Both are PJ configuration basses. Both appear to have the same pups. Please can you help me by telling why one would be more aggressive than the other? I know the windings/magnets of the pups could be different, but did Warwick do this? Is there something else? Wasn't sure if to ask this here, but why not?.. Many thanks -
Could also be a management company looking to make some extra money. I don't think Randy California (drowned in 1997) owned the rights completely to Taurus and 50% is owned by someone else, maybe a publishing company? The guy who has brought the lawsuit is involved with California's estate so maybe his relatives are looking to get in on it too.
It could be what happens when relatives over estimate the value of the estate, especially when it's split 19 ways and "Rich Uncle Randy's" estate doesn't amount to so much. Not that I've researched this guy at all.

Martin at The Bass Gallery will certainly give you honest advice if he can't do it himself.
Ooh, thanks! They're pretty but i must admit i don't want to spend that much...! I've just been bouncing around ebay and have a Really Looks a Lot Like A bass filtertron coming for 30 quid... I'd guess replacing the pickups like for like would probably be the ones that are about £7.50 a pair so...
Somehow I expect pups for £7.50 will be every bit as bad as the ones you have already, or worse. WD Music sell the Kent Armstrong one for £43. They're really good. But 2 could be more than you're looking to spend on that bass?
I'm sure this has come up before and I remember getting that spirit album in the 80s , as soon as I heard it I looked at the date to see if it was post Zeppelin
I thought this was the same band again. I guess in the USA you can get the case brought up in each state in turn, until you get the right result.

Advice on changing from Markbass to TC Electronic...
Grangur replied to lastanthem88's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'm another lover of my One10. I use it with a LM3. I can't believe how little the 2 weigh. The sound is fantastic; clean and clear and loads of bottom end and the tother en's is great too. IMHO, TC give a completely different sound. They're a lot more metallic in the tone. -
High fret buzzing - what am I letting myself in for?
Grangur replied to TPTroll's topic in Repairs and Technical
The OP'S ID is TPTroll. Are we falling for the obvious here? He doesn't appear to be answering questions. I say this matter is closed.
