    In the Pro-bassist, part-time-bassist thing, doesn't it really follow that the Part-timer owes it to the Pros to always charge a Pro-rate, so the Pro has just as easy time to get the work? But given that, some venues would stop promoting live music because the crowds drawn don't bring the bar takings to pay a pro-rate? My head hurts.

[/quote] A word of warning: This method was used by James Jamerson, Chuck Ramey and Jack Bruce, and we all know what happened to them! So this practice could prove fatal.

    I use Musescore software for writing and transposing scores. They have a library of users scores. It seems to me they have folk using the software to write scores for multiple instruments they can't play. I guess its another way to get fulfilment. It's not for me, but clearly some like it. Isn't this all a bit like the Beatles track "Nowhere Man"? I used to get depressed thinking I'm wasting my time, but I came to the conclusion that we're all mortal. What we do doesn't matter. All you do is simply moving the furniture about until we go. It makes little difference in the grand scheme of things. But if you enjoy it, do it.

    I, like Truckstop, feel unfulfilled most of the time. Also, like Camdenrob I'm not in a band. I've almost always not in a band. Work commitments won't really give me much time to rehearse in the week. I practice almost every evening, but it's playing the same stuff and scales and Modes etc. Not being in a band and little project of it,I've never got into playing bass lines along with recordings. I don't see the point. So I play by sight reading. The choice of material for playing is limited if you're also not great at sight reading. So mostly I'm playing stuff like "Autumn Leaves", "Morning Has Broken" and "Scarborough Fair". I ask; is this what I was expecting to be doing when Mark King, Chris Squire and John MacVie inspired me to pick up the bass? I don't think so, bit it beats the hell out of vegitating and watching Eastenders. So currently I have 9 basses in the house. (3 are currently up for sale). I like having the choice of frets or fretless, flats or round wound etc, but I must cut down more.

    I recently bought a cheap Westone Jet on Ebay. I actually bought it thinking, "that's too good, I'll sell that for more". I put the low price down to the poor pictures. It's arrived and stuck here. Instead its a Fender I'm moving on as I prefer the Westone. The feel is pure magic compared to the Fender. Beauty is in the eye of the musician.

IMHO the tone of a MIM is far better than the G&L I used to own. The G&L I horrible and metallic like a MMan, but that's only MY view others like that sound and good for them. It takes all sorts... What is your liking?

    Actually I've taken another look at it. There's nowt wrong with the TR. It simply needs the A&D relaxed to allow you to get the key in there correctly. I'm not greatly impressed with it though, so I'm working on sending it back. I could spend on getting a new pup and working on it, but I'm going off of working on basses right now. It's too easy to spend on pups, strings, paint etc, etc and in the end you're the owner of a cheap pimped bass that no-body will pay more for than the "used" value of the original bass.

    I'm clearing out some basses as I don't gig and it's not looking like I will any time soon. So here's a great sounding P for someone to snap up. Sorry, not wanting to trade really. As you can see it's in great shape with a newish mirror PG. The strings are almost new Rotosounds. I think the colours is called Navy Metallic, but I'm not sure. It's blue ok, but it's got a purple going on in there too. I love it. Take a look at the pics and enjoy. It's not brand-new, so there are a few small dings and scrapes. Nothing that shows from the front and nothing to spoil the feel of the great neck. If you want more pics, then feel free to PM me. I live near Stansted Airport, but travel a fair bit for work, so delivery is possible in most parts of the south half of the UK. Cash is king, but the usual other payment methods are good too. I'm well used to shipping basses, so I can pack it well for you and ship it. Feel free to ask questions. Thanks for looking.     I plugged Roland 100w cube into my Barefaced BigOne. It sounded great. According to the spec it shouldn't have worked but it sounded good to me. But then what do I know?

    IMHO any TV kills any kind of pub atmosphere. The trouble is there's an element of the public who like it. It's also cheaper than paying a band I guess.

    I really feel for you. The pub is out of order, but if I were you I'd also have words with your guy who booked it. It's a bit daft IMHO, giving them an email address that won't reach him at the weekend. I wouldn't allow a situation where the band stuff gets mixed with work. But maybe that's just me?

    I've been watching Westone Thunder basses for a while recently. The prices seem to have gone up a bit of late. Paul might be a bit oug of date. If the bass you're looking at is in good condition £250 isn't so very high, especially if it's local and you don't have to pay shipping on top. All these things need to be considered.

    Soft, slightly damp,soapy cloth. Then dry off with a good rub down with an old towel.
