Neutrik Jacks - Driving me mad!
Grangur replied to Gottastopbuyinggear's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for the warning guys. I was about to buy some jacks and "breath new life" into some old leads. But when you consider this problem added to the cost of jacks and my time, is it worth it? Can anyone shed any light on this? -
Here's a good video that shows how to check the height of the strings in the nut. It's a Warwick video so it show you how to adjust the nut. You can't do this on a Fender Squier, but the method of measuring is the same. At least you can identify of you have a problem.
Time to politely suggest to the vendor that you are considering legal action against him?
The difficulty there is trying to serve any legal papers; do you know where he lives? I've just bought a bass from another BCer. I know he lives in a certain town, but that's it. I'm sure I won't have a problem, but it's the same situation, unless you can get the police involved.
Did the seller provide tracking details from the German courier? If Everyone is like me I'm following the parcel from the point it goes into their system to see where it is. My last one went to 3 different local dispatch centres before they got it to the right one and that was all DPD also from Germany.
That would at least prove that something got posted.

That always seems odd to me.
Bass was from Germany. But yes i should of taken a holiday over to get it. I've received many basses from Europe and USA with no problem in the last 17 years. This is a first for me.
Flights from Stansted are about £50 return... if only...!!
DPD will not compensate you, you are not their customer. Please ask him again and let a member of the moderating/admin team know if you have further problems with this member. We are happy to assist in any way we can.
This is correct. You don't have a legal contract wi DPD. So there's no legal contract telling DPD to compensate you. DPD will only compensate the person who paid the insurance; IF the guy took out the insurance. REALLy sorry to heat about all this. This make your stomach go cold at the thought.

Fender Jazz Bass Special - Pick Ups... Advice!
Grangur replied to lastanthem88's topic in Repairs and Technical
Stupid question, but have you checked both pups are working and you're getting a good output from the neck pup? What strings are you using? Is there a pre amp in the bass? If there's a pre amp is it the standard Fender one? -
Etiquette and new owner of a sold instrument.
Grangur replied to ialma's topic in General Discussion
Sometimes I buy something knowing full well I'll be setting it up, taking better images and selling it straight on. Generally I make a profit. So having a ready customer could be good news, provided the new buyer is prepared to pay what I'm asking, not wanting to cash-in on the great deal that I was a lucky enough to get. (Just because I bought at a great price doesn't mean I have to sell at a silly price.) -

I'm currently using a Barefaced One10 cab. The sound is truly stunning : Loads of bottom end and great at the top too. If you've not tried them I suggest you get along the coast to Brighton and try some out. I'm sure Alex will be happy to accommodate you.
It's definitely for the seller to refund the buyer and then the seller to seek compensation from the courier.
Agreed. The courier will only pay out to the person who booked their services. So if the seller booked them they should refund you straight away.

Bass tech for a setup up in surrey or hampshire?
Grangur replied to wenbainhouse33's topic in Repairs and Technical
Why not take a look at this thread. Someone here may be able to help http://basschat.co.uk/topic/277468-bcers-prepared-to-help-fix-a-bass/ -
Me. Wirral. Would love to live in North Hants. Also teaching and teching. Last client was Steve Harley
Corrected... Steve Harley, like as in Cockney Rebel!?

Hey, Lozz, what's the "head-to-head" test this year? Do we have any plans for one? They're always good fun and interesting.

I've found the zinggyness differs from make to make. Elixirs are less zingy than Rotosounds. They also last a lot longer and less course under the fingers.

Strap and strap lock for Stingray suggestions?
Grangur replied to AinsleyWalker's topic in Accessories and Misc
I use Warwick strap locks on the Warwicks and tap washers on the others. (Same as Grolsch washers but you get them from Homebass) -

Not to want to be a spolier of a good idea, but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a neck? The down-side of this, of course is having to put up with a Fender-look-alike headstock - That alone would put me off too. Have a bump.
I'm considering defretting a Conklin GT7 with purpleheart fretboard. Can any body direct me to a source in the uk? Thanks in advance...
Hold on.... why not buy a Purpleheart Fingerboard? There's a place in Kent, near Tonbridge - http://www.exotichardwoods.co.uk/ Timberline, Unit 7, Munday Industrial Estate, 58-66 Morley Road, Tonbridge, Kent TN9 1RP Tel: +44 (0)1732 355626 I was there about a year ago. They had PH fingerboards. I think they might all have been ready slotted for frets, but it's worth a phone call.

I use tap washers from Homebass. At about 30p for 5 it's good value. There must be some more famous faces that use the red rubber though?
