The pole pieces on this type of pup screw up and down if you insert the right allen key into the hole. Wind the pole up a bit and get a small file and take off any rough bits that catch your finger. I'm not 100% sure, but I guess you can wind it out completely. If you can, try doing that and turn the pole piece over and replace it in the hole.

Remove the screw from the body and get a cocktail stick and dip it in wood-glue, or PVA glue, then stick it into the hole as far as it goes, then break/cut off the section that's sticking out of the hole. Allow the glue to dry, then screw the strap button back onto the body. Job done. Edit: Cato just beat me to it

I tend to agree with the other above, but you need to move forward and settle this. You could argue and get the seller to tell you where you can transfer cash from the UK that will get him the Xe.com rate, but you have done the deal, so there's not much to be gained. Why not work out the value if the transfer had achieved 1.295 (a compromise exchange rate) then send him the difference? Another vote here for UPS/Interparcel. Loads of basses, no problem. I do have a large supply of bubblewrap and cardboard though. It's worth noting the insurance only covers if the bass is in a hard case. So probably not worth buying unless it goes missing; so it's a total loss and who's to know. But that's never happened to me. With respect to deliveries going missing, I'm fussy about what countries I post to - developed countries only. No deals with guys in wooden huts on dusty hills.

Legally, your contract is with the shop. So you have no obligation to the previous owners. The bass is unlikely to be an irreplaceable item so the family should sort that out between themselves. IMHO the only question for you is, after being made aware of the history of the bass and the tug-of-war over it, do you really want it? Will you always be reminded of the agro whenever you pick it up?

Me thinks you need more details. If it's a used bass, there could possibly be a problem of the person who traded it in wasn't the rightful owner. Stolen perhaps? "Handling Stolen goods" is a criminal offence.

I'm just about to leave for work now. I have a 3 hours drive to my first customer. I will be back about 6-7 tonight and it'll be 8 by the time I've finished doing emails and stuff. We got rid of the TV license years ago. That's really what we sacrifice for playing music. I do have the advantage that my missus is a keys player and the kids are gone.

Second here recommending the Scotts Bass Lessons Accademy. They do a 14 day money-back trial. I did that and stayed. It's about £100 for a year - about the same cost as 4-5 1hour lessons. I recon it's good value even if you only stay a year. (or 14 days)

I'm well impressed, especially if that was just with a saw and sandpaper. With regards to the cost justification, I think on a Harley B or any sub-£50 bass you have to do it because you want to do it and yu want it and forget about the price. On that one you may well get your money back though.

Blue [/quote] I think what Scott's really getting at is the folk who buy and sell a series of almost identical P-bass/Jazz bass as if a change of colour or pickup maker will have a serious effect on making it all come together..... as you already knew.. So why am I posting this?

Lots of stores rotate their stock, especially if the stock is perishable. Basses aren't perishable, so it's possible that if the normally keep stock and they've never run out, then the last basses at the bottom of the stack may get to be quite old before they get moved out.

Hi there, I was given this by another kind BCer, and Jazz basses don't seem to be my thing. So I'll be happy to pass this on to another BCer.. It's a well built, solid home-made case. It's covered in the same carpet type stuff as Trace Elliot gear. The inside is well done; all black fluffy fabric and shaped perfectly for a Fender or Squier Jazz. If you want it, its yours. No damage, good catches, hinges and metal corners.

Wow. Thanks for the great thread. Just when I was thinking BC was going down the drain. I can't claim to know a lot about Modes, but something interesting to try is to noodle about using EPhrygian or any Phrygian come to that and it sounds really like flemenco. The flattened 2nd really nails that feel.
