Maybe we should have a directory for local BCers open to doing some small-scale works on basses? I would also be happy to do it, but Staffs is a good stretch from here too.
I couldn't help myself and did a search on fleabay, unfortunately for the continuing drama of this thread, the OP's bass was blue.
AND it would look better in blue imho. Shame.

Conversion rates when buying and selling in the Market place.
In which case my original comment applies. If the seller doesn't understand how banks do currency exchanges then I really don't see how that's your problem. The seller needs to take it on the chin and clearly state a sale price in his preferred currency in future. Sounds harsh but you've done nothing wrong and have no reason to be concerned. If he quibbles, point out that you fulfilled the purchase to the letter and in good faith.
You're right, of course. The pain here is that a refund will lose even more cash. I guess the OP could offer that solution and stipulate that he will want a FULL refund. Leaving the seller the problem that he'll lose even more in that process. Note to the seller: Sorry for your loss mate, but at least you have a sale in this very quiet time. -
Conversion rates when buying and selling in the Market place.

I tend to agree with the other above, but you need to move forward and settle this. You could argue and get the seller to tell you where you can transfer cash from the UK that will get him the Xe.com rate, but you have done the deal, so there's not much to be gained. Why not work out the value if the transfer had achieved 1.295 (a compromise exchange rate) then send him the difference? Edit: as long as the seller will accept what he gets with no arguments. -
I'm not so sure, how far back is the buyer obliged to go? I've just bought a new pa from an online shop, I don't know where they have got it from. Under No circumstance should the shop pass on any buyers info to the kid, his mom or the dad so the only people that could request that would be the police who I can't see getting involved at all. If the kid swore his dad gave it him and his dad swore he didn't that's the end of the whole debacle legally.
If the family exists, and the story is genuine, then as said by others they're a bit low-rent and I can imagine the in-family wrangling would go on for years. I pity the kid. Off topic - here's another ; OP, go for it my son! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jackson-4-String-Bass-wonderful-condition-Matt-Black-/151956730786?hash=item236153b3a2:g:Hz4AAOSwCypWn4Wr (It's not the same one again is it?)

Warwick customer service - proving to be hard work
Grangur replied to ead's topic in General Discussion
Progress. New p/g landed and fit is spot on (custom one made for me by Warwick). Here are pics before and after: Now just need to sort out the refund...
Assuming the black is the new one? In which case, it's a great improvement. Cool look. -
Another vote here for UPS/Interparcel. Loads of basses, no problem. I do have a large supply of bubblewrap and cardboard though. It's worth noting the insurance only covers if the bass is in a hard case. So probably not worth buying unless it goes missing; so it's a total loss and who's to know. But that's never happened to me. With respect to deliveries going missing, I'm fussy about what countries I post to - developed countries only. No deals with guys in wooden huts on dusty hills.
-
Legally, your contract is with the shop. So you have no obligation to the previous owners. The bass is unlikely to be an irreplaceable item so the family should sort that out between themselves. IMHO the only question for you is, after being made aware of the history of the bass and the tug-of-war over it, do you really want it? Will you always be reminded of the agro whenever you pick it up?
-
Me thinks you need more details. If it's a used bass, there could possibly be a problem of the person who traded it in wasn't the rightful owner. Stolen perhaps? "Handling Stolen goods" is a criminal offence.

Thanks for this Andy. I've been wondering what to do with an 80s bass with a ply body. You've got me thinking now.

A new practice routine? Life gets in the way?
Grangur replied to ChunkyMunky's topic in General Discussion
I'm just about to leave for work now. I have a 3 hours drive to my first customer. I will be back about 6-7 tonight and it'll be 8 by the time I've finished doing emails and stuff. We got rid of the TV license years ago. That's really what we sacrifice for playing music. I do have the advantage that my missus is a keys player and the kids are gone. -
Beta Test & Review D’Addario NYXL Bass Strings
Grangur replied to D'AddarioUK's topic in Accessories and Misc
Yes please, if i've not missed it. Either 4 or 5 string. 45 - 100 or 45-130 -
Second here recommending the Scotts Bass Lessons Accademy. They do a 14 day money-back trial. I did that and stayed. It's about £100 for a year - about the same cost as 4-5 1hour lessons. I recon it's good value even if you only stay a year. (or 14 days)
-
I'm well impressed, especially if that was just with a saw and sandpaper. With regards to the cost justification, I think on a Harley B or any sub-£50 bass you have to do it because you want to do it and yu want it and forget about the price. On that one you may well get your money back though.

Scott Devine has some really good advice regarding GAS
Grangur replied to miles'tone's topic in General Discussion
I guess I get that. If I'm playing one of my Ps,I'm not going switch to my Gold Top Les Paul for no reason. It's is like you say, plays differently. Blue
I think what Scott's really getting at is the folk who buy and sell a series of almost identical P-bass/Jazz bass as if a change of colour or pickup maker will have a serious effect on making it all come together..... as you already knew.. So why am I posting this? -
Lots of stores rotate their stock, especially if the stock is perishable. Basses aren't perishable, so it's possible that if the normally keep stock and they've never run out, then the last basses at the bottom of the stack may get to be quite old before they get moved out.

Hi there, I was given this by another kind BCer, and Jazz basses don't seem to be my thing. So I'll be happy to pass this on to another BCer.. It's a well built, solid home-made case. It's covered in the same carpet type stuff as Trace Elliot gear. The inside is well done; all black fluffy fabric and shaped perfectly for a Fender or Squier Jazz. If you want it, its yours. No damage, good catches, hinges and metal corners.

Wow. Thanks for the great thread. Just when I was thinking BC was going down the drain. I can't claim to know a lot about Modes, but something interesting to try is to noodle about using EPhrygian or any Phrygian come to that and it sounds really like flemenco. The flattened 2nd really nails that feel.
Interesting video here of one way of doing it, if you've got the inclination. https://www.youtube....h?v=28ITCMYO5sA
Interesting video. I guess that's the really good way of doing it. I've got a Dremmel, but if the cost of the material is about £16 for me to buy and if Tim's prce is about what he shows on the site, then I recon if Scratch-it can do one for that it's hardly worth messing about. After all if I take 2 attempts I'll not be far of of being in pocket by asking Tim. Thanks guys.
Wayne Sleep is like a wooden spoon in a bucket of porridge. It's Fred Astaire or no one!
OK, so "Ballet Rambert" would have been a better choice. But you get the picture.
-
If bass players have the right to force scientists to change the name of an element, then how about if ballet dancers have the right to rename the Fender Precision Bass as the "Fender Wayne Sleep" due to his great precision in his dance routines? If Lemmy always fought against his music being "metal" then naming a heavy metal element after him would be a final kick in the privates beyond the grave. (Call yourself fans?) Also, folk here have suggested Lemmy was "mythical". Look the word up for **** sake. Mythical means "imaginary or fictitious". If he was that how the hell has he died!!

BotB, many thanks for your input. You have confirmed my expectations. I ask myself "is it worth it?" The answer is probably, "no".

I'm thinking about routing the body of a P-bass to put the coils the way round I like. That's to say I like the D-G coil nearest to the neck. The routing is ok, but I'd need a new custom pickguard. If I were to buy a sheet of the material how easy is it to make a guard? Has anyone else done it? I'm pretty good with practical things but is it really easy to mess with these? Any other tips or suggestions?
