1. I don't normally get any excitement at all from a Fender. I don't really know why I looked, but that is nice.
  2.
Exactly, guys. When I originally contacted Warwick they quoted me just the price of the truss replacement and the cost of tidying it back up again... ranged from 500-1000 euros. The guy I spoke to then said he had to query something with the boss and that's when I got the quote back with all the extra stuff on that I didn't need to be done. The funniest thing is, I was was quoted 1800 euros for the LED's to be refitted afterwards. Martin at Sims charges £500 to fit a set in a new guitar!! And he was the man who used to fit them for Warwick (and most likely does a better job too). It was a 'thanks but no thanks' quote. They didn't want the work.
Unless I'm mistaken there wasn't the bass is not as standard? You'd already added LEDs hadn't you? If you send the bass to Warwick, their position would be that will as standard practise they will warranty the bass after the work is done. Sounds to me like the quote was one that reflects a situation of Warwick not really wanting to get involved in a bass with non-Warwick LEDs. I were in their position I'd do exactly the same. Why should they warranty LEDs they don't know? I sell LED technology for a living and most LEDs sold on the market are crap. I guess where Warwick may have gone wrong is maybe they should have simply said, "you've customised it, you're on your own". The course they took did, however, leave you with an option.
  3. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=LUCKED+OUT "Lucked out" means you were unlucky. I wouldn't say a Fender is THAT bad. Winning any bass isn't that bad.
  4. Hey! Congratulations. That's looking good.
  5. I went out to a concert last night. Then came back and transcribed this for bass. It gives a good intro to ledger lines and octaves up the dusty end. The Blue Danube by Johann Strauss.
  6. Another thought; if the body is very light, and you're adding a more substantial neck, are you at risk of introducing neck dive? If you simply don't want the HB logo, why not get a knife blade and scrape the logo of and re-finish the headstock? That's the route I'd go.
  7. Why not take a neck off from a Fender and try it out? I appreciate this may entail meeting up with a willing owner of a Fender/Squier owner, but I'm sure the meet up could be interesting. I doubt the holes would give you a perfect line up. So you could simply, bite the bullet and buy a used Fender neck and if the new holes clash with the old positions be prepared to fill the holes on the neck with cocktail sticks and glue and re-drill the new holes. The ideal solution could be to drill out the old holes and fit dowels, but I'd give the cocktail sticks a go.

  9. Nice thoughts here. Many thanks. This might be a bit of a noob question, perhaps? This is prompted by my bringing my Thumb out of it's case and beginning to concentrate on using it as I'm wanting to give the 5er a go. Then i found the E and D strings a bit lacking in gusto. I think they're D'Adarrio rounds. I changed them when I got the bass, tinkered a bit. Got fed up and stored it, then recently got it out of the case and "got real" about playing a 5. I've heard tell of strings going dull in the packet and thought this was a case of this. As BottomE says:
As long as the bass is in a case and away from moisture the strings should maintain their brightness. It is an issue though isn't it when you have a herd of basses and want to replace say, 7 sets of strings. £210 approx for my fav strings! Makes you think.
Generally I use Elixirs most of my basses, but of late I've been toying with Fender strings, but on a fretless I've got chromes. Thanks for the recommendation to keep most basses in cases. And, yes, I do like flats. Maybe I'll go down that line or stick with Elixirs. And sell the duff basses... did I really say that!?!?
  10. Another thread here has got me thinking about this. I've got 6-7 basses. At any one month-is I play 2-3 of them regularly. The others only get picked up on occasions; usually just to compare something. My "problem" is when I decide to change things round and play an old favourite I find the strings have gone dead and they need changing. This can get crazy; changing almost unplayed strings. My solution could be to sell the bass. What do you think /do ?

Victor Wooten used one live at the London gig in Camden. He may have only used the looper in it and maybe another effect.
  12. I saved a load too, when I last read about donation to the less fortunate. It seems all the time since then nobody is in need of them anymore.
  13.
They don't really vary much post 2000 and pre 2009. The biggest variations were in the nineties, all over the place! Post 2009 necks have the new slimmer standard profile, although not as slim as the eighties necks. Nut widths have never changed that I am aware of.
The new necks must be really slim then. Mine are similar to a relatively recent Rok bass I had. None of mine are baseball bats.
  14.
Glad to hear it, out of interest is there much difference in the neck thickness between them, again people saying post 2007 had slimmer necks
All of mine have similar thickness necks too. My 05 SS1 has an almost identical profile neck to my 07 Streamer LX fretless. That's what attracted me to the fretless; same neck as the other. L-096648-02 K-110687-07 J-147007-08 H-117227-05
  15.
Cheers, I've just checked and you are correct, Natural Oil Finish. It looks very dark in the photos, I was hoping for Nirvana Black.
Nirvana black is very much more black. Natural oiled wood can go darker, either by exposure to sun light or through the use of a dark oil, such as teak oil. Or it may simply be a dark piece of maple. It is after all, a natural product.
  16.
I own two Warwick Corvettes $$, I'm really pleased with them. I did a lot of research on Forums etc before buying them and there seemed to be an opinion that from the late 1990's to 2007 the quality of Warwick's wasn't so good, hence me buying a 2009 and 2010 made model. I wonder if anyone else can verify this. IMO buying a secondhand Warwick is very good value for money, the prices of the new proper German made ones are out of reach for most people.
I've got 4 Warwick basses. All German made; 02, 05, 07 & 08. All have never given the slightest problem ever.
  17.
If you look at the other pictures you can see that the break in the wood has been repaired by repositioning the broken bit, glued and metal pins inserted through it to strengthen the area. What would really piss me off would be the choice of the wood by the original guy in the factory in the first place, for an instrument of this value it is a fundamentally bad choice of timber to make the neck from , the knott at the nut with the corresponding machining has weakened the structural point of the truss bearing surface to the point of it breaking. I would argue that the cause of this problem is purely down to the shoddy choice of timber used to make the neck in the first place.
I'm a committed Warwick fan generally, but if you'd had Warwick do the repair I doubt they'd have sent the pictures showing the incriminating evidence of the wood selection. But then I also doubt you'd get much support from them if you sent them the pics.
  18. Stupid question here, I know, but how are you dating the bass? The usual way is by the serial number, but this is on the neck plate, and you suspect that this is not the original one; changed from being an anniversary one? Am I missing something?
  19.
Nice, what colour stain is that?
Looks like natural oiled to me. You can input the serial number on the Warwick.de site and get the full spec. Lovely bass. I like the 3 pots. Shame you can't get a stacked one to match. GLWTS
  20.
Parcelforce - and I never had a problem.
Me too, a few times. At least if you're our it will be easier for collection if it's at your local post office.
  21. Me too. So yes, this is normal. I usually find I get back to speed fairly quickly. So I guess it gets better.
  22. I too have had good customer service from Warwick in the past 6-12 months, but this does seem to be a new trend. I'm also on the Scottsbasslessons.com forum and there's a guy there who's not over happy about a gap in the side of the pocket. He got a response from Warwick, but it was simply washing their hands of the situation. Ok the gap may have been there from day 1, but they could have offered a solution even if they charged at cost.
