1. Something I'm curious about is why are there 2 handling charges. Also, I would have thought the "Sanding of the whole bass and new Natural High Polish" was optional. It's a good chunk to take off the bill too. Good luck on getting a good result.
2. There's no way that guy is asleep in a position like that on the sofa. He's simply the guitard who's selling, or his mate. It's all marketing.
3.
Ordered one yesterday, hopefully if the necks straight and not ramped and just needs fret work and set up it'll be a bargain! definitely wont be putting it on my main 2 basses but 'hopefully' will be great for little build projects and mucking about! ill report back when it arrives sometime in the next MONTH! i suppose that's what you get ordering form china, for a low price and with free postage!
Shenzhen is a nice place, if you're thinking of collecting.
4.
Sorted here......(its nowt to do with me btw) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/274047-yamaha-bb424x-black-l220/page__fromsearch__1 I had one of these and it was my main gigging bass for a year. Slightly chunky neck for my taste but an awesome sounding and well built bass.I spent a lot of time trying to find a jazz or precision and ended up with the Yamaha which was streets ahead imho.
You have some great tips here, but I would definitely recommend getting a good used bass. The one Mudpup suggests here looks really good.
5. What's the problem? Without pics we can't help much.
6. John's a real Gent of the highest order... as if you didn't already know that from all the other feedback in this thread. I was in need of some screws and John was really generous and posted some to me FOC. You don't get better than that!
7.
I have come across the type of scam several times, although not specifically that one. Not sure why anyone is supposed to believe that paypal would require a payment via a rival payment service to get money, but I assume some people must fall for it occasionally. Doing a search on the web, it appears it is the current common one on gumtree
I must be getting really slow in my old age. I'd not noticed that one.
8. Hi All, I've got a bass up for sale on Gumtree and I got a mail from someone in Belgium, who wants to buy it. She's disabled and wants to buy it for her son and wants me to ship it. We agreed the price and then I get a mail from "Gumtree"... Has anyone ever come across this kind of [s]scam[/s] situation before? I could TAKE it there for that, and get a good day out in the process!
9. There's only one, rather useless picture. I wonder what he discovered after half-way stripping the bass, that made him decide to take it no further?
10. Hi all, I've picked up a nice Fender MIM P and giving it a good clean, but the screws securing the pups are rusty and the heads a bit worn. They're really small though. I've got some other pup screws and thought of drilling out the holes in the pup to give clearance for a bigger screw, but I think the drill would wreck the hole. So, does anyone here know where I can get some of these really small pup screws? I think they're 3mm screws, 30mm long.
11. Red Hot Chilli Peppers at Earls Court about 8 years back. It was my son's first gig. He loved them and it was a big event for him. The sound was like an excruciatingly loud tinny radio. It sounded a bit better if you stuck your fingers in your ears.
12.
Where are you based?
He's in Portsmouth. Where are you located Alex?
13.
Just the E string. I wasn't aware the springs were supposed to hold the saddle down as well as to maintain the intonation but I'll bear it in mind next time I take the strings off. I maybe should have mentioned its only a couple of years old and I only noticed it recently.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but I'm reading from your question, that the saddle is riding back against the back-plate of the bridge and the spring is getting all squished up and the intonation is going out. Maybe it would help if you post a pic of the problem? I'd be surprised at you having a major problem on a 2yrs old bass
14.
Hi, just Pm'd re the Columbus.. Where are you based? Nik
He's in Nantwich Cheshire
15. Have you taken the bridge apart and checked the springs for their strength? Is this on all strings, or just 1 or 2?
16. I usually use the interparcel.com site and usually book UPS. They insure for musical instruments and seem really reliable. You can also log in and see a signature of the person who signed for the delivery. I used DPD for sending some books to France. It took them 3 days to come and collect. Then it only happened because I phoned and complained. Won't use them again in a hurry.
17. There's a guy in my town here who stocks bits for them and makes parts too.
18. I'm always surprised when I see stuff in the marketplace where the guy selling doesn't "Watch" the thread. Not surprising when the thread just sits there forever is it?
19. Have a bump for a seller who may have forgotten, or got fed up bumping, or maybe it's sold? Who knows?
20.
Well packaged and fast shipping. However i didn't buy a Markbass combo
LOL, no it was the Barefaced cab wasn't it... correct one sent.... honest!
21.
Thanks guys. The main reason for having this finish done is that it's my main gigging bass and it gets a hell of a lot of use. I've just had it on a two week job around the Mediterranean, playing 7 nights a week and around 4 sets a day, and I've got another job coming up around America, South America, Caribbean and Bahamas - all warm climates. Whilst I love the natural finishes too, everyone has a different pH level to their sweat, and some is naturally more acidic than others, unfortunately I've got the short straw with that one, and any pale finish my sweat doesn't get on with. I could keep waxing it, but as I found with my previous corvette, it didn't really help much, and I don't have the time to keep on top of the maintenance. With that in mind, I want the bass to sound and look as amazing as it does, but be as low maintenance too, and I figured that the best way would be to have it stripped and all the green rubbed off, and then have it sealed and coated with a good, solid 2k clear coat.
Well that makes sense. Some folk use HRT to help with night-sweats. But I guesss it's not the answer for everyone Thanks for shearing.
22. I just, today, met with Steve and bought 2 basses from him. Both are really good. I'm really happy with them. Also, I made a mistake on the cash I left with him and he's mailed me for him to pay me the overpayment back!!! What a real gent! What more can I say? He's as honest as folk come. Many thanks Steve. You're a great Gent.
23.
Very tempting!
Many thanks. It is a great bass. But I need to stop gaining more basses.
24. Looking really good. I do like a good natural finish like you're doing. I was a bit confused at first, I thought you were going to stain or paint it. What don't you get on with about oil and wax?
