I sold Wal a MarkBass combo. It was a really easy transaction and fast payment. Many thanks Wal. You're a Gent, Sir. Cheers Rich

What's your budget? Are you likely to start gigging anytime soon? What sort of sound do you like? Really, the best start is to get down to the guitar shop, with your bass and try some.
It's tough keeping control of a Dremel, I found one of these useful recently. http://tinyurl.com/DremHelp
Oh I've got the 566 thingy, but I can still make a mess of it; of that you can still be sure.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting

It also goes to show that "snaps" from a grotty old mobile also makes a difference. You need to have clear images. -

Have Westone Thunders suddenly gone through the roof? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westone-Matsumoku-Thunder-I-A-Bass-with-Free-case-bundle-/201437603290?hash=item2ee69de5da £315 including a case, that he admits isn't up to much. -
People do realise that my avatar isn't a picture of me....right ?
Damn!! And there was me being polite to you!!! Mind you, the "hansome bearded ex-librarian" does contradict the pic I guess

I followed the link to the album and listened to Alias in Wonderland. It's pretty good and a different tempo to the other 2 tacks you linked to. It's all pretty cool really. Shame Al clearly thinks he was born the wrong side of "the pond". You mention arthritis. There's another player here in this parish with that "gift". She can only play 15-20 mins at a time. So when the fingers get bad she plays a U-bass. Good luck with your playing/fingers. You sound cool.

Love is real: IMHO the drum beat is too strong in the mix. I enjoyed the bass tone and content. For me the real cool part was the outro. I real dug the soulful bass/vox. Demo Medley Pt1: Nice job. Bass could be stronger, maybe. Demo Medley Pt2: Bass could be stronger. The drum rim-shot is repettative and bringing the the bass up would add more interest. Demo Medley Pt3, 4 & 5: Some nice stuff here. The bass does it's job. The pieces are short and don't really go anywhere, but what can happen in 50 seconds? Wicked Man: You do tend to have your bass low in the mix don't you? You're playing some good lines over all the pieces. Not always predictable, but it all works well and great synchopation. Note: this is all in a very humble opinion. I'm no pro, by ANY means. But as a "punter" in the bar these are my thoughts. Good luck. You're doing well. IMVHO.
Thanks for your those comments Bassbus. I'd never used arpeggiators before - they are ALOT of fun! Having listened to the song back I see what your saying, Tom. I've kind of mixed the drums a bit to far back for this genre. The bass drum definitely could do with more volume. If anyone has any more comments I'd really appreciate it. I'm still not sure how well the middle 8 section fits in?
Nice job. Can't add a lot, except the change in sound at 2.00 (is that the middle 8?) didn't really work for me. Maybe that's just me? Maybe a funk-bass solo would blend in better with the pop-corn.

Nick sold me a MM pup. Fast delivery and a real gent to boot. Many thanks Nick.

From what I've seen, £400 is about right for a normal Corvette right now. Bubinga is a bit different and you might pay a bit more for that. Or you might pay less as bubinga is undeniably heavy. If you're thinking of gigging with it you might want to feel the weight first, before parting with your hard-earned.
What about P-P, or reverse P-MM(putting the treble coil of the P in front of the bass coil so the MM can go in the MM sweet spot)? edit: If the bass owes you very little and you can live with a big scratchplate, you could swimming pool route the body and use it as a test bed for whatever pickup configurations take your fancy.
Fair point about the swimming pool rout. At least that way I can do the rout. The only problem I have with that is an in-built dislike for pick guards; or to give them their correct name "cable route covers". I'll think about that one.

What an amazing bass solo ... or maybe not
Grangur replied to A.G.E.N.T.E.'s topic in General Discussion
What's wrong with it? He just got fed up with SOTW and wanted to play something different. Some folk like slap-jazz. Is that so bad? -
Buzzing on upper frets, loosen truss rod?
Grangur replied to markdavid's topic in Repairs and Technical
I know I've come late to this, but as the buzz is only on the G string I would be inclined to simply raise the bridge for the G a small amount. By adjusting the Truss rod you will affect all the strings. Also, tightening the TR will lower the action slightly, so the buzz may get worse. Loosening the TR would increase the neck curve and raise the action on all strings. -
Why bother with all sorts of difficult repair ideas, the crack is in a non structural part of the headstock, just let some super glue creep in making use of the capillary effect and you are already done. I've done this type of repair this way more than once, even on more structural parts!
Many thanks. Done. Did it last night. I now just have a small bit of sanding and re-lacquer and it'l be great. Then onto the body asap. Right now it's a PJ. I'm wondering if I should change the P-J to a P-MM
