US "touring band" gets found out in Bristol
Grangur replied to uk_lefty's topic in General Discussion
Why would anyone with a brain do that? The cost for the gigs must be colossal. Surely if you fake your social media, you also need to keep a track of what's real? -
It's truly great to hear the bass and see it in @TrevorR s videos. It really cuts through with a terrific growl. Mrs G really enjoyed it too. Strangely enough I even got quite emotional with those. Man, I'm getting soft! Thanks Trevor.

TRADED Warwick Corvette 5 String with John East pre amp

Links? You're asking us to comment on this and we have to hunt around to find it. Also, wtf is an s-s ? $$ perhaps? I think I'm right in thinking all the $$ (Double-buck) Warwicks are active. But the circuit in the Rockbass isn't the same as you'll find the in the German basses. But, you pays your money.... Good luck Edit; or is it "Streamer Standard" ? Dunno. I give up.

Nearer the neck makes the sound more "rounded". Nearer the bridge for a more aggressive "clipped" sound. So there is no "Right" position. Some will talk of a sweet-spot but it's down to personal preference.

So it looks a bit like this?

That's why it's better to use an old kitchen scotchbrite pad. Old ones are the best as they're less severe.
-
Lacquered finishes don't accept oil very well. The stickiness of the back of the neck was due to the friction of the amount of smooth lacquer in contact with your skin. All you needed to do was lightly remove *some* of the lacquer and make it into a matt finish. This can be achieved with a light rub over with kitchen scotchbrite pad. An old one is better than a new one. The best thing to do now is sand it back. Wash off any oil residue with white spirit and spray it with matt or semi-matt lacquer.

Not A Word About The Queen Movie Bohemian Rhapsody?
Grangur replied to Bluewine's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I have to ages FM's supposed busy morning on Live Aid day did come across as stupidly crammed. What were the chances of finding the right Jim Hutton on that day? -

Diagnosed or announced? Isn't it possible the band knew, but kept under-wraps - as was said in the film? But agreed, for the film it makes the Band-Aid scene so much more emotional. -
If it were genuine why would anyone sell for that price? They would be mad. Scam for certain.

Please can you tell folks here who know less than you, what was out of sequence? Just a thought here: Is it possible that liberties had to be taken to keep the time down to 2 hours? -
The description clearly says "body only". Then all pictures show both neck and body. Is the seller a fool, lacking in knowledge, a con man or what?
-
Yes, @ped, a 2 piece bridge, 2 chunky pickups and the mute thing would mean a big body. Add to this his wanting 24 frets and you're getting up to it being a big bass. Also, this would clash with his demand for something lighter than his old Fodera.

Here's another video of @Joe Hubbard Bass playing the bass. BTW, Joe, what does the fancy device from Holland do? You mention it in the un-boxing, but never actually show what it does. Also, Joe, what is it about the tone from the Warwick 2 part bridge that you don't like?
-
PS, @Joe Hubbard Bass, Looking forward to seeing the 4 string... please?

Getting back to the subject of the signature bass for @Joe Hubbard Bass For those who haven't even checked it out. Here's a vid: The subject of similarity to Spectors or even Streamers isn't relevant here. I'm really pleased @Joe Hubbard Bass is thrilled with the bass. It's good to see the care and attention to detail. How many makers drill holes for the bridge and then countersink the holes to get the burrs off, so they can be certain the bridge will lay flat? OK, don't give me a list, but you don't get that everywhere. Sorry, Joe, I would have prefered the natural colour of wood to the the custard colour with naked maple for the neck, but each to their own. Warwick have done a very neat job matching the grain of the body to the wood used in the cover on the back. You obviously didn't like the standard quick-release covers for the battery replacement and the truss-rod covers. I always thought they were a good idea, but I guess you have gone for looks rather than practicality? The Dunlop strap locks are a good touch too. Yet, here's the video of the final result. The important part is the tone, I guess, this starts at 10.00mins in. Any chance, Joe, of a demo of the tone variants in the bass showing the different pickups and controls?

We went last night. We like their music but we're not dedicates fans as such. So can't comment on time lines. IMHO they did enough on Freddie's private life. His family struggled with it then and there's no need to drag it out any further. As @blue says, John Deacon was an amazingly good look a like, and acted pretty well too. We'll probably go again, as we have Cineworld Unlimited. -
So, if Kramer Guitars have no issue about it, why do some folk here have to continually beach about it? All the rest is old, been chewed over dozens of times. I like Warwick basses. The legal wrangle isn't my fault and has nothing to do with me. I also don't like the look of the Spector, slightly longer look. It isn't as well proportioned, IMHO. That is just my opinion. If some here don't like Warwick basses, then go and find another thread and keep off the few Warwick ones we have. /rant Phew. I feel better now.

TBH what does get me is when some folk can't talk about instruments that aren't to their taste without aggressively attacking them. There are few real rubbish instruments on the market. All leading(?) brands deserve respect. There are makes I don't particularly like, but you won't catch me rubbishing them. Some people are even prepared to take money from a maker in a signature bass contract, and then rubbish all their other products!

Ok, I stand corrected on the 24. Thumbs do neck dive. But that isn't ALL Warwick as you appeared to imply. My 4 string Streamer doesn't neck dive, as you implied it would. I've not tried a Streamer 5, only Thumb, Corvette $$ and FNA Jazzman. The 2 latter ones didn't dive. No, not spoken to HPW on the matter of the bridge, but I can measure. I can assure you my 4 string basses are set at 19mm. Sorry for not grovelling to you, if that is what you expect. But I'm also not stupid.
-
Can't say I've played either bass. I'm sure they're both totally excellent; we would all expect of Ibanez, if you like that sort of thing. To my taste, most Ibanez instruments have been too aggressive in their tone. Yet my tastes are changing and it's probably a good time to try them again. To try to help a bit, to answer the wood question that @Al Krow summoned me here for: Wenge and Pangs pangs are very similar in qualities. Both are very hard and will blunt tools as you work them. The grain is straight and it splinters a lot. As they are very similar in these respects, I would expect their other characteristic, such a sound, when used in a neck, will be the same. AFAIK there are no CITES restrictions on either, but Ibanez could be changing out of anticipation of problems in this area, or it could be down to price. What you can be certain of, is as the SR1800 was successful, they won't be wanting to change a winning formula. So, the new woods will be as similar as possible to the old ones. Don't see why they would have ever had a wenge neck and Rosewood fingerboard, apart from to meet a common expectation in the market, for a certain "look". Summary: dunno for sure, but my guess is it's price.

Most Warwick have 36 frets and balance perfectly well. Also, @Joe Hubbard Bass I don't get the "never made a bass with 19mm spacing". I have a 2 piece adjustable bridge adjusted to 19mm spacing on all my Warwick basses I've owned.
