Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
Grangur replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
"Yes, they all do that Sir"!

Mine does that, it's louder when I first start using it but then it seems to be getting quieter everytime I use the push pull
Ahh.... ok. Thanks. So we're not looking for a faulty component or dry joint then. I'm sure it can be fixed with a capacitor across the switch, or the battery. It's just a matter of finding out what size that needs to be. The other solution could be to make it passive and take the pre' out. -
I say take the free beer... then get the Wives and GFs to sell it to the punters in the bar at £2 a pint. The landlord would soon want to change the payment situation.

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'

I'm finding with my Progresiv Jazz, that when playing in Passive, if I switch to Active without turning the volume down, I get a loud "pop" go through the amp and speakers. Does anyone else get this? Or is this a super new feature that only i have the benefit of? Just wondering if I have a duff pre-amp, or is it designed that way. -
cheap basses needing new necks... what to do?
Grangur replied to alyctes's topic in General Discussion
Sell them as projects. Keep 1 or if you want to but projects don't make for a good investment. You also need to think about how you keep having problems with necks. Maybe you could go and see another BCer and check out the necks and he can check out how you go about adjusting TRs. -
Just buy and fit the speaker yourself. £65 to fit a new driver is criminal. I hope some of the £65 was to cover looking at the amp although any decent tech should spot a blown driver within seconds.
My thoughts too. They will also be factoring in a 3/6 month warranty as well, of course, but you would have the warranty on the speaker itself anyway.
Btw i have since done some wet & dry on the built up areas. I haven't used sanding sealer either, would this make lacquering no possible?
You shouldn't need to seal it before spraying. All you need is a clean, smooth finish sanded down with the finest paper you can get. I sometimes go down to a 3200 grit, but 1500 might be ok. Then you need a good quality lacquer. You could try Danish oil. I've not used it but others like it. I usually use spray lacquer. If you're stuck I can do it if you mail it to me.

It's got a knob missing too. So the seller's description of "very good condition" is questionable because you can't go buy knurled brass knobs from any guitar shop.

Just bought one of Paul's Westones from him. The bass was well described and the sale easy and a good cuppa drunk. Many thanks Paul. It was good to meet you.

If another BCer in B-town has a Dremel they might be able to help you out. My geography isn't too great I don't know where B-town is. Is it anywhere near B-Stock?

Hi there, I'm getting into playing my Harley Benton Deco Progressiv bass, (only the best quality gear is used here at Grangur Towers). The sound it good and the pre-amp gives a good variation in tone. The problem comes when I switch from passive to active. Each time, if it's not been switched for a while, there is a loud "click" that comes through the amp. No question it would wake up the audience in a gig situation. I know I need to fit a capacitor across somewhere to stop this. What I'm hoping someone can help with is: Where do I fit the capacitor? What size of capacitor should I get? The switch is a push/pull on the volume control. Here, curtesy of another BCer, is a pic of the elects cavity. Or should I really look into getting another pre-amp?
Just as a matter of interest what sort of weight are the Progresiv's? Could someone weigh theirs.
I just weighed my 4 and it's about 3.85 - 3.9Kg. It was on digital kitchen scales, so the numbers were up and down all over the place as it stood there. -
Neck Replacement. How Critical is it?

You also say it's more expensive to order from your country. What country is that? Would it be possible and cheap for someone in the UK to buy it and ship it to you? -

Looking again at my black Progresiv I was wanting to make a small adjustment to the intonation. I found there is no longer screw through the saddle. It seems it is fixed. No reason why it can't be changed though I guess. -
He'd have done better if he'd started at 99p. That way it grabs folks attention. I'd guess it would probably sell for about £200

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Grangur replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Seller is a member here
That's fine. Nobody is saying he's a rogue. He may be misguided or mistaken. Or he may know something we don't. -
There is no argument. Matchsticks are fine. If you fill the hole so that it is small enough so that the screw can exert enough pressure on all sides and the thread bites into the wood sufficiently, then you don't need to use glue to do this job.
Matchsticks will certainly work for a while. But due to the softness of the wood. It may break up over a time. Cocktail-sticks will give a long-term fix.

Lemonrock gets me to gigs as a punter. For it to really work for you as a band, you need to have recordings or videos of you on your page. Your name, a few dodgy pics and a paragraph of "self-praise" won't have me driving 20 miles for the experience. But then, like all things, "you only get summat out if you put summat in". This is a good page: http://www.lemonrock.com/360 I could go to that one. Another is http://www.lemonrock.com/defunkt - that's our Gary Mac; I've been to see them. I know a lot of the videos for defunkt are shot using a mobile, but it gives a general overview. Now this one... http://www.lemonrock.com/planetx Hmm... I reckon an early night would be preferable. Links to your own site can be good too, if you have recordings there too. (Edit; If your vids and recordings show you up as cr@p, then please ignore all of the above.)
