1.
Aria Cardinal Series for £35, I messaged them this morning but haven't heard anything, maybe someone else off here will have better luck: http://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/aria-pro-ii-bass-guitar/1128615003
The ad has gone. Shame that.
 2.
And add another string.
Yes, good idea. I've got a nice lump of wood I can screw to the side of the neck. Then I can add one of those single string bridges... mmmm you've got me thinking now. It does mean the top string would be fretless, but what the hell!?
 3.
I thought it showed that the single most worthwhile improvement you can make to a P-bass is to put in a Seymour Duncan quarter-pounder. That would raise the total cost of the Gear4music one to about £135.
That G4M had a standard pup. I never bothered changing the pup at all, ever.
 4.
Search on ebay for: lic by fender Theres a guy sells them on there, I paid him about forty quids for a nice unfinished Jazz neck a few years ago and it was ace.
I think you'll find they're about 100 now. But still good value, I'll give you that.
 5. There's some interesting posts here. I have to agree on some, like too many knobs and/or strings. And who on earth needs tuning heads the size of a wind-turbine? (Fender) Not wanting to derail the thread, but here's my baby. Do you think It'd look good with a nice tort pick guard?
 6.
Aria Cardinal Series for £35, I messaged them this morning but haven't heard anything, maybe someone else off here will have better luck: http://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/aria-pro-ii-bass-guitar/1128615003
I've just mailed him as well Too far for me as well. If I get an answer I'll PM you.
 7. Eureka!! Here's the answer; swap the necks over and play your P with a jazz neck. Then ditch the jazz. Easy"
 8.
comedians the lot of you! will actually try opening it up and finding the problem, thanks for all the er...help! PS already got a Precision, it sounds loads better but got a big fat neck so crap for gigging right?
You're totally correct, of course. Nobody in this world could ever, possibly gig with a MASSIVE, wide P-bass neck could they?
 9.
Found the results of that one: https://bassclef141....rent-size/#main
Hey! Well done!. So the price matter looks more down to age than pedigree... Interesting info though. Also it shows MIM is better than MIA, in the ears of the audience, on the day.
 10.
True, but it's all in the fingers, too - by which I mean in this case that it's about playability and aesthetics as well as sound. And if I remember rightly (as I wasn't there), there were no high-end £5K-type basses in that test? Or were there?
There was a £10k bass. That came about 12th if memory serves. Lozz will be a long later I'm sure. He'll know more. My Warwick Streamer SS1 turned to the P pup came well down the list too; It all depends on what you're looking for, or expecting. It has to be said, the audience was about 20 folk. So not a massive profile really.
 11.
Sell it and get a Precision
This is certainly the best solution. Please look no further than my signature. or... you could read this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/194-humming-and-buzzing-problems/
 12.
All you need to do is split a matchstick in 2 lengthways and push it in the hole. The screw will hold because of the thread which is now biting into the wood. It's also more easily reversible.
Don't use a matchstick. The wood of the matchstick is much softer than a cocktail stick. I use normal DIY-type PVA glue.
 13. At the Herts Bass Bash 2014, Lozz did a blind test where about 18 P basses were played from behind a curtain. The audience of BCers voted for their favourite bass. Somewhere here you can see the full results, but a Gear4Music LA bass (£89.99 RRP), came 4th. USA Fenders were tested, but were further down the ranking. So to answer your question; its all in the ears. price tags are no assurance of preference.
 14.
Warmoth do a 24 fret option for their 38mm jazz necks, or are you after something more cheap and cheerful?
True, but it's only a neck for a 20 fret bass, but with an extended fingerboard. If you own a body that requires a 24 fret neck, then their neck will still be too short. http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Necks/Bass202124FretBoards.aspx I'd like to find one too.
 15.
Is this the UK brand that used to sell inexpensive instruments? Or, is it an older, possibly japanese, brand from the past?
They used to have a UK url. Www.hodsonguitars.Co.uk They made affordable instruments.
 16. The bass in this vid is not unlike Donslow's other bass colour. This is possibly a bit more reliced though https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dF5xVnTo8gs
 17.
Look forward to that.
Me too. Working on this bass has now got me looking out for a good project to work on.
 18. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Bass-Guitar-Stored-at-Felixstowe-/252048837875?hash=item3aaf480cf3 Here's one that the owner thinks is an Ibanez. Is it an Ibanez, do you think?
 19. One can only guess what happened to the TR when the drill hit it.
 20. Funny how the comments here are largely saying "keep the drift-wood look". But the voting is 2 to 1 in favour of spraying it and covering the look.
 21.
Shame, it had a sort of driftwood look to it as it was.
Couldn't agree more.
 22. Regrettably, this isn't mine. This was just about having some fun to see what folk thought. Sir wants it black. So black it will be. It now has 3 coats of primer. Tomorrow I'll sand it and, if all goes well it'll have more primer and black it will be. Unless, of course it all bubbles up again and then it'll be back to the drawing board.
