Recommend an amp for someone starting to play again
Grangur replied to JJJack's topic in Amps and Cabs
Fender Rumble 15. They're good practice amps and can be bought on eBay for about £40-50. He can sort out a gigging set up later. -
Does nobody on ebay post anything anymore?
Grangur replied to Grangur's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I thank you! And I wasn't born in 1986. Just to make that clear.
. One day you might wish you were. -

Grangur replied to Grangur's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It can take weeks if an item's not in stock, for example. But I don't want to get into a tedious discussion about exact delivery times, my point was that eBay buyers expect their stuff to be delivered pretty damn quick compared with a non-eBay website where people are generally a little more tolerant about it.
Accepted. But if Discreet1986 posts pics of his 1 year old Fender Rumble or Squier VM, I don't think it falls into that category. Besides if you were selling something that goes out of stock, and I placed an order with you, and you were in that position, you'd mail me and we'd discuss it. (Discreet is NOT the seller on any items I have bought on ebay. Mark is a good guy to buy from) -
Whenever I sell through BC. Gumtree or eBay I always mail the buyer and get the gear posted asap. Besides that's normal isn't it? Over the last month I've bought 2 basses and a small combo. I've still yet to receive anything! The seller of the first bass told me after me raising a case that he was locked out of his account. 2 weeks later I'm still waiting. Last week I bought another bass. A Squier VM Jazz. That still hasn't been posted, according to the eBay info anyway. 2-3 days ago I bought a combo. That's still not shipped. On all of these I'm also getting no response to messages. Is this becoming normal practice these days?
It means things get delivered to a store of your choice and you can go and collect it at your convenience. No need to worry about the postie delivering but you're out, or not putting the little card through the letterbox, etc. I've used it before; it works well.
I don't doubt that. All I'm saying is if you send a bass that, when packed comes to being 124cm long, dear Argos could dispose of it rather than let it upset their storage plans. I'm not saying they will, but under the terms of the agreement with EBay they can. So BCers would do well to be wary of this. There are also weight restrictions of 20Kg
Good to know. Thank you
You're welcome
UK sale only please - shipping costs would be too much on low value items.
What if bass books are like rocking horse sh1* in Slovenia? Maybe the cost IS massive, but it's the buyer's choice isn't it? But it's not me selling. I won't say anything.

I, just like many others I'm sure, have just received an email from eBay telling me of the wonders of selling stuff with free delivery on EBay now qualifies for buyers to use Click and Collect, where they can select to have you despatch to their local Argos, so they can collect from there. Initially it all looks good, especially if the buyer is out all day working. Watch out however!! There are size and weight restrictions. As many here will know, a packed bass will be very close to being 1.2m long. This is the limit over which Argos won't accept goods. If your package is bigger than 1.2m Argos may dispose of the item! Just thought I'd share this.

...or a dodgey speaker lead and nowt to do with the amp at all? I've got a bad Speakon lead that had it's previous owner thinking that it was the amp overheating and cutting out.
-
So am I reading this right; it seems they don't fail on you when in use, you arrive at the practice studio and you find them not working? I recommend you start taking your amp home. YOU might not abuse it, but others may not be so careful. Is someone connecting a lower impedance cab than is recommended? Or some other problem? Fact: electronic devices don't fail when not in use, unless it's water or heat damage, and you'd see signs of that.

Online Bass Purchase – Am I over reacting?
Grangur replied to bagsieblue's topic in General Discussion
I think if this were new, the question of accepting is dependent upon the price of the bass. But this isn't something you are in a position to argue. This is a matter of quality control. It isn't damaged. So, yes it's in mint condition. Should the seller have declared it? That's a matter of opinion. As for fixing it: You say you can feel it. Does it stick out or is it a slot? If it's a slot I'd get a sharp, fine blade and scratch out the black, sand it and fill it with hard wax of a light colour. -
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/266141-wee-article-to-help-demystify-amps/
+1 It all depends on how you use it and what you use it for. If you play metal it might struggle. If you play funk it might be ok. Read the article in the other thread

Thredded screw on cover for truss adjuster
Grangur replied to peanutmans's topic in Repairs and Technical
yes you do need to be careful and may not work at all and it could be too tight against the nut however replacing the cover is easier if it does snap than repairing the gouge marks in the head if you slip with the hacksaw blade
I guess also, if you remove the cover from the screw then you have more of the screw available to you to be able to get a pair of pliers on the head and unscrew it that way. (Whilst protecting the headstock with masking tape of course) -
Thredded screw on cover for truss adjuster
Grangur replied to peanutmans's topic in Repairs and Technical
another method might be to remove the tuners and try to spin the the trus rod cover underneath the screw pulling it up to grip into the bottom of screw as that might help undo it
Doesn't that give you a high chance of breaking the cover? Also, there's only a small chance of this working as the bottom edge of the cover will be tight against the nut. -

Fender instruments are manufactured on a modern production line. All fitting of pickups will be done using a jig that decides precisely the position of the pickup. The pickguards will all be identical. If this is a genuine Fender there is no way the pups would be out of line. If it is a Fender and the pups are out of line this will because someone has modded it badly.

If your switches work as I suspect they do, your answer is 'no'. But as I'm on holiday with nothing but a phone to work from I can't 're-draw your diagram for you. Maybe someone else can. Or ask Kiogon for a harness: he does a great job and you probably won't pay him much more than you'd be paying for the parts.

Many thanks for the info guys. Next time they're up for a change I'll have some good points to bear in mind.

You mean like a halfway point between chord charts and total dot-written score? Yes,that makes sense. Can't say I can help. But it makes sense.

In the words of Anthony Wellington: represent this question as if you were talking about the English language. "If you're wanting to learn English, is learning to read a bad idea?"
