Difference between string-through and bridge stringing?
Grangur replied to Naetharu's topic in Bass Guitars
I read an article about this in Bass Gear magazine. They put this question to about luthiers who build top end basses. These guys included those at Fedora and Sadowsky etc. Their answer was it makes no difference. What matters is the break angle and its position. What happens outside those 2 points makes no real difference at all. Players often like it as a style and se will convince themselves of a difference but these top luthiers couldn't find a benefit. -
And obviously a big thank you to Mick, Lozz and Chris who organised the bash, Sibob's dad who took photos of several attendees with their gear, Tim the drummer, Andrew, Nick and Peter for their talks, Mrs Grangur* for helping with the bass test, and all the others who donated their time or possessions for the bash. * I still don't know her first name! Would love to be enlightened
Thank you too Sylvia. Mrs G is generally known as Louisa. Louisa also thoroughly enjoyed the day and will be pleased to help more behind the scenes next year; such as helping Chris with the teas. It was also great to see ordep again. We met when I bought a bass from him a while back. It was good to see the winner actually enjoying the bass, rather than eyeing up it's value for a listing in the "For Sale" section. I'm sure it's gone to a good home.

Although I've just taken this to the Herts Bass Bash.... and fallen in love with it again in the incredible sound of this in the larger room. Withdrawn!

Just got back and sorted the gear away. Phew! Many thanks to all who organised the event, to all the stars who performed and presented and all those who went and made the day what it was: Another really successful Bash. Many thanks

I had a LM2 that went off when it got hot and over heated. It also had a poor connection on the Speakon socket. This turned out to be the same fault. Poor connection causes heat and caused the thermal cutout to operate.

Here's a Weststone Spectrum that seems to be in good condition http://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/-classic-and-rare-80-s-bass-guitar/1120724190 -
Hi there, I'm selling a set of Seymour Duncan SPB-3 pickups. As you'll see in the pictures they still have the foam unused and a brand new set of pickup screws. They're not scratched, as far as I can see. Any marks you can see are on the plastic case, not the pups themselves. The case is in great condition. All yours for £45 posted. Thanks for looking
What are people's (constructive!) thoughts on its quality ?
I liked my Thunder but f@@k me it was heavy that is the only reason I got rid of it
This weighs 4.3Kg. That's 9.48lb in old money.

This is a bit of a blatant plug really. I like this bass, had some fun with it, but it's time to move it on. In the meantime, feel free to enjoy taking a look More pics here

It's time to cull the herd. Mrs G is getting narked at the collection. So here goes a really nice example of a Westone Thunder 1A from the Matsumoku factory in Japan. This is a great piece of history, but I'd let it go for £150. This is a precision bass with original pickups; with adjustable cores to the pickups, to allow you to adjust the sound to your taste. This is an active bass and the electrics are the originals with the exception of the one of the battery connectors, which I've replaced. The switches and pots all work well. There are no real dings or scrapes to tell you about with the exception of a small worn patch in the lacquer above the pups. There's no buckle rash or anything. The strings are good and it's nicely set up. It comes in a "home made" case that was made by the original owner. The lining is a bit moth-eaten, but it's pretty solid and does the job well; not that I'd call it a "flight case". The weight of this is about "medium" really. It weighs 4.3Kg. That's 9.48lb in old money. It sits well on the strap without any neck dive and doesn't break your back. Thanks for looking. The pics aren't the greatest. I might try to get some better ones soon. If you want pics of anything in particular just post below and I'll be pleased to get you the best ones I can. For those reading in black and white, I live on the Herts/Essex border but do travel about and might be able to deliver. I'm also happy to ship it. Payment by cash or bank transfer prefered. More pics here Or please enjoy the thumbs below.
I've already saved £500. http://www.goldfinch...the-baby-piano/ Just another £474,500 to go then. Plus VAT, of course.
Cool. Don't forget to bring it to the Herts Bass Bash. Mrs G would love to give it a go
I'm fascinated by the luthier's art, and I love the great variety of beautiful woods available, but how do you tell a good piece from an indifferent one? They all sound the same when I knuckle them. Also, how do you know which woods will combine well? Is it just received wisdom?
It usually has a Warwick neck attached.

Hi Chris, The Herts Bass Bash is this weekend, if you'd like to come along. They're usually a good meet up. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/257753-herts-bash-2015-sunday-14th-june-12-to-5pm/page__fromsearch__1 Welcome to BC
Thanks everyone , genz it is then , if bf use them can't argue with that, hiya Grangur they just lack something with my ebs cabs great my tc is great as is my mb ,but with the bf its just lacking something I'm always looking for the ultimate sound !!!

Assuming he has a single 8 ohm cab then amps rated 250 ish watts are probably going to be a little lacking in power. Might be worth trying a more powerful LM or TC model if you like the basic sound. As mentioned already though the streamliner/BF combo seems to get a lot of love.
Many thanks for the explanation. Sorry if I may have sounded a bit "off".

What do you mean "don't do justice" are you saying that a Mark Bass and a TC Electronics amp don't have the class or something? What don't you like about them?
