1. I'm wanting to buy a bass there and would really like for someone to go pick it up and ship it to me. Can anyone help? Many thanks Richard
2. All sounds good. I had a Gear4Music LA bass. It was surprisingly good.
3. I've got a flamed maple Warwick. I changed the nut from the standard plastic one to a brass just-a-nut III and the tone of open notes changed significantly. I don't play many open notes, so I don't know if it was a good investment. But that's my 2p worth. I'm also curious how one can pick up to identical Fender USA standard P's and they do sound different. So maybe there is a variation in the windings of the pups? I doubt that. In these days of pups being machine wound in mass production factories. So it has to be down to the quality of the plyboard/alder etc used in the plank?
Would rather stick with the rotosounds that are fitted.
If you want to change the sound then you have to change something in order to make the change in sound happen. So we don't want to change the bass. We know the pups and strings have been known to give you your sound, so you don't want to change those. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but pretty much just leaves the amp cab and EQ settings.
5. Excellent post. Many thanks for the info. I don't think I'll be buying one just now.
6.
If your pots are noisy...change them. You are just delaying the inevitable by using contact cleaners.
Agreed, it delays, or it papers over the cracks while you try to sell the bass.... if you're inclined to do that terrible sort of thing.
7. Have you guys tried Maplin's contact cleaner spray? It's what I have. It seems ok to me, but not over impressed. Just wondered how it compares.
8.
ta for £30-ish, it's worth a gamble. Could always flog the other parts. I guess I need to start paying attention to Thomann....
Gamble? You could visit Denmark Street and spend more on the train fare or the parking & congestion charges alone.
9. I'm interested to learn what others recon on this.. http://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/unbranded-p-style-electric-bass-guitar-thru-neck-japanese-1980-s/1112454954 I believe it's a Memphis P, Made about '78. But from recent ads I've seen I think this is a bit over-priced. What do you think?
10. The down-side of the auction, is the buyer has a week to think and weigh up the question of if they really want it or not. If you go for a "buy it now" then the click and woops!! It's theirs.
11.
Are they really bad basses? Ive noticed no chat on here about them, even at only £28 something quid!!
The PJ I bought has a great finish and excellent weight, if a little heavy towards the neck end. The pups weren't very powerful, the strings hitting the frets sounds a bit tinny, but if you're thinking about a change of strings and pups, then the rest is ideal. A change to light-weight tuners would also be good, if you're fussy; which I am. Hell, I just now sold the body only for more than I paid including shipping! Anyone want to buy a neck? Edit: reason for selling - I've got enough PJs Edit 2 - Damn! He just cancelled!
12. Victor Wooten uses one for the looper and a few of the other effects I believe. I use it for the metronome and drum loops too. If you're carrying the gear on a bus in London, this HAS to be a great solution for you.
13. Sold on Gumtree. .... and then again, he pulled out!
14.
Bought one of the Thomann Ukulele basses (fretless model, non deko full price jobby) & following reading this pestsky thread I added one of the decoration only, B stock 75' Jazz basses as well! Decoration only & B stock . . £36odd quid??? Let's see what this ones like.
AT has a lot to answer for. If the Mrs finds out, you know who's getting the legal bills.
15. Hi there, Here's a chance to steal a deal on some great strings, if you're into the heavy kind of string. These last forever and sound great. Here's the info: http://www.stringsdi...ings-heavy-p838 All I'm looking for is £32 inc postage to the UK Thanks for looking Richard
16. Hi there, I bought these when I was planning to build my own U-Bass - a project that never got off the starting blocks. 18. Hi Mel, I've had rosewood and wenge, I don't think there's anything much to chose between them. WRT the body, if you're going for a "coffee table" look then it will be easier for you to get some exciting wood grain going on if you have a veneer on top but for me I like to see the grain of the solid wood. If it were me I'd like to be involved in the wood selection process, but to be honest, you don't really know what the grain looks like until you plane and sand it. The natural grains look great what ever you have. I look forward to seeing the story unfold.
19.
Happy New Baritone Guitar Day. The listing on Thomann says 'trremolo bar not included. Does yours have one?
Yes. The tremalo arm was there. With what Mike says it's tempting to but one again.
20. Thanks for posting this Mike. You're confirming a lot of what I suspected. I just didn't want to spend the money on doing that without knowing what I was doing was correct. if you can post a video or sound file of how I really sounds, that would be excellent.
21. I got a deko PJ and found I don't really want it. So if anyone is interested drop me a PM.
