1.
+1 on Briwax My Warwick Thumb was always done with Warwick Beeswax until few years ago when a local luthier with an excellent reputation was doing some electronic mods told me to use Briwax as it stops your hand sticking to back of the neck when sweating. The other big advantage is it allows the wood to breathe better than the beeswax and as mentioned by 3below it gives a really nice satin finish which is more natural on the bass. The bass doesn't have that greasy feel either just after polishing. My Overwater (avator pic) i was told to use furniture polish like Pledge which seems to work well on this type of smooth satin finish. Haven't tried the briwax on it yet but might Dave
Pledge does bring the samll feature of making your bass totally impossible to spray with any kind of paint or lacquer at any time in the future. This is because the silicone in the spray will repel any spirit based finishes. You're not alone in advocating this approach, so each to their own. Good luck
 2.
I use one of these for a hundred yards or so trip from the car to one of the places I play and it's been fine: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Einhell-Folding-Truck-90kg-Capacity/dp/B001GU6FYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427866565&sr=8-1&keywords=Sack+trolley I have to use a bungee cord to secure the cab as the base is quite short, but I guess you'd do that for safety even with the Thomann one.
looks good to me
 3. http://shop.handling-storage.co.uk/folding-sack-trucks-16-c.asp There's a lot more choice out there
 4. Does the fishing trolley have a max load in the description? If it does I didn't see it. That would have ne suspecting it's not able to carry that much.
 5.
Hello. Is this still for sale?
I didn't get an answer to my PM
 6. I've pimped a bass or 2. It's good fun. The real benefits of doing this, in my experience at least, are limited. Economically: Take a Ford Fiesta, change the engine for a sports model, add chrome wheels and fluffy dice and what do you have? Answer: a Ford Fiesta that's very personal to you, but limited to being anything to anyone else.
 7. Have a bump for a really tempting bass at an amazing price. If nobody here buys it then this simply tells you that nobody here needs a bass like this. It's not the price. Glwts
 8.
Only if they came via a Google search and not a direct link (Google has no view of the direct link). Google's search results are highly personalised now so I'm not sure just how much it would affect global rankings. Anyway, in all the SEO I've worked on in the last 15 years, this technique would never be recommended highly, there are just so many other things that give more bang per buck. I think it's more likely that it's a classic loss-leader. They get us in on a £30 bass, we hum and har over the ten euro postage and chuck in a few more items. Before we know it, we've added enough to hit the 200 euro threshold for free postage! (Or is it just me who does that? )
I bow to superior knowledge. Many thanks
 9.
What is the quality and quantity of opportunities in the London area. Is it mostly start ups, or are there opening with bands that are established with paying gigs? Blue
What are you thinking, Blue? Are you coming on tour?
 10. With every respect, if this is your first venture into buying a cab then my guess is that you don't do big gigs. That cab is far too big for pub gigs. 10 inch speakers will give a harsh punchy tone and 8 will be loud. I suggest you go to a few gigs in your area at the sort of venues where you want to play and see the gear other bass players use. Then go to a store and try some out. Then you can go shopping.
 11.
Did anybody see the dekos this morning? I was away from my computer. They included a HB60 semi hollow, and a standard jazz bass. But, gone in 35 seconds. The lot.
If they were ever there at all.... don't forget, it's all about getting hits on their site - the more activity they generate, the better the site will be ranked in Google. They only need you and 100 others checking 4 times a day to get a nice bump up in the Google ranking. I wonder how many folk get the same email that Chris Sharman got?
 12. I just bought the above Overwater from Jamie. He's a top guy. Easy to deal with and really helpful. Many thanks Jamie. Cheers Rich
 13.
Damn! I was wanting to help, but Grangur and Neepheid have beaten me to it and both have explained it far mor eloquently than I could have.
Sorry!
 14. There are folk we do miss, There are folk here we will miss when they go. Years ago I was handing in my notice at my first job, I go to asking who will do this task and that, like I was worried how they would manage. I was given a poem. This poem could easily be a message for any prolific poster who feels this place won't manage without them: The Indispensable Man (by Saxon White Kessinger) Sometime when you're feeling important; Sometime when your ego 's in bloom; Sometime when you take it for granted, You're the best qualified in the room: Sometime when you feel that your going, Would leave an unfillable hole, Just follow these simple instructions, And see how they humble your soul. Take a bucket and fill it with water, Put your hand in it up to the wrist, Pull it out and the hole that's remaining, Is a measure of how much you'll be missed. You can splash all you wish when you enter, You may stir up the water galore, But stop, and you'll find that in no time, It looks quite the same as before. The moral of this quaint example, Is to do just the best that you can, Be proud of yourself but remember, There's no indispensable man. (Except Blue, of course, and er Bluejay and Discreet and... )
 15.
You get long scale, short scale and others in between. Some have 20 frets, others have 24. They can be the same length. How do you get the same note from a 20 fret as a 24? That should make some of the notes bigger on the fretbaord with only 20. Basically, how do you get the same note with a bigger fret, and how big, or small can the fret spacing be, before it becomes a totally different note to the note it was intended? I hope that makes some sort of sense.
Taking the points one by one: You get long scale, short scale and others in between. Yep Some have 20 frets, others have 24. They can be the same length. How do you get the same note from a 20 fret as a 24? You don't. They will both give the same note at any given fret. So they will both give you a "C" on the 8th fret on the "E" string etc., but the 24 fret neck with give you more notes available than the 20 fret neck will (assuming you actually play way up there.) In reality this only gives you 4 more notes than on the 20 fret neck, as the 4 highest notes on the D string are already there on the G string. A 20 fret bass is the same over all length as a 24 fret bass. The difference is a 24 fret bass will have a shorter body and a longer neck. The 20 fret bass will generally have a longer/bigger body and short neck. That should make some of the notes bigger on the fretbaord with only 20. Basically, how do you get the same note with a bigger fret, and how big, or small can the fret spacing be, before it becomes a totally different note to the note it was intended? I hope that makes some sort of sense. The length of the fret is dependant on the length of the string from the nut to the bridge. The distance from the nut to the 12th fret is 1/2 the length of the distance from nut to bridge. The guy who designs the bass deals with this, so you don't need to worry about it (normally).
 16. I'm in too... I'll be coming from Stansted way. As it's 2 hours away, is there anyone else from this direction who'd like to share a car? I'd bring a Warwick Streamers or a Corvette, but it seems to be a few of those about. I can bring a G&L SB-2 Tribute.
 17.
This is a really great post. I have now decided to stay.
Phew!! That was close!
 18. I don't think it helps this situation when folk read BC using a phone. The reading is ok but posting on a dinky screen can be a pain. Speaking for myself, I've been spending a lot of time on scottsbasslessons. Apart from that I think it's cyclical. After a year of being here you can get to the point where you've explained how to do a set up, for example, to so many folk you get to thinking it's someone else's turn.
 19.
Don't know if Scott has taught any high profile bassists, but his lessons on YT are top notch, and he's a really good bloke. Met him at the LBGS a couple of years ago, and he was very approachable.
The lessons in a the Scott's bass academy are a lot better than the free ones. He does some great courses on chords and harmonic layering.
 20. Dear Sir, I'd like to register a complaint. It's outrageous of you to flaunt such an item in public and cause such blatant GAS amongst poor, unsuspecting members of the public. The sheer nerve you have in doing this is unbelievable! That's ANOTHER pair trousers off to the wash! GLWTS
 21. I saw the title and read it as "So debate I'm hanging myself"... I MUST get my eyes tested!! Moving on... I used to have an ESP LTD 205. The neck is narrow and slim. For me the string spacing was a bit too narrow, but you're coming from the world of playing cheese wire, so I can see this may be good for you. The neck was smoooooth and flat and felt like a dream. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/esp-ltd-b-205-sm-ns-spalted-maple-natural-satin/58862 The down-side is it's active. If you don't unplug the cord you will run the batteries down. Nice bass though.
 22.
http://basschat.co.u...to-to-basschat/ There you go
Phurr.... now where's the fun in that?
 23. One way is to host your pics on Photobucket, then use the "Direct" link for the pic and paste that in the the thread using the "Image" button in the post toolbar.
 24.
I can strum and play a few tunes on piano. I think piano is a good second instrument for a bass player.
Chris strumming a tune on a "Joanna"? This I've GOT to see! I've got a guitar, but so far it's just gathering dust. But.... thanks for the inspiration.
