You could do a lot worse than try out a month of Scottsbasslesons.com Bass Academy for $1. The resources there are amazing and cheaper than a 1-2-1 teacher.

Fwiw IMHO if you're asking this question you can't aford the emotional trauma and stress of the worry involved in taking a Fodera out on a gig. You could, of course, get some good insurance. But the question is, what is your feeling when you do ding your favourite bass? Can you claim and get every slight scrape fixed? Good luck whatever you choose to do.

This is what Gary Willis has to say about it. http://www.garywillis.com/pages/bass/bassmanual/theramp.html

More pictures would be useful to let us see the problem better. But I guess you're relying on the pic from someone who has bought it from you.
Dam. I may make you an offer come the new year...... Especially with it being a Y.O.B bass for me......
This bass is worth every penny of the asking price. As a G&L this is great value. The sound is big and punch by the bucket. If it said Fender on the headstock you would have to pay a lot more.
I guess there's no harm signing up for the trial, before parting with the $168 years fee??
That's what I did. I'm still there too, so is Hecket and a good number of others. There are a good number of videos other than the FOC ones. In fact the FOC ones are useless compared to the paid-for content, there really is little similarity. Courses you get included already are:

The Definitive Beginners Guide to Bass Guitar - 4.4 hours
Essential Groove Techniques - 1 hour
Technique Deep Dive for Bass - 2 hours
The Essential Bass Maintenance & Set-up Guide - 2.20 hrs
Harmonic Layering – Arpeggios, Chord Tones & Scales. - 10+ hours (being added to)
Playing Chords on Bass Guitar – The Definitive Guide - 2.3 hours
This list is still growing. Plus you get all the stuff Hecket posted about. We had a live Q&A with Todd Johnson last night. http://www.toddjohnsonmusic.com/ The courses all run at YOUR speed too - so you can take as long as you want, or go faster if you can. If you can get all that from a 1-2-1 teacher for £100 a year, or $168 then you're doing really well. See you there. Rich
True, time is required. Had I not been out the last two evenings (one of which was practice) I would have had time. I've been playing bass since 2002, not made the time as much since graduating which would definitely be a contributing factor to the issues I'm having now.
It's a hard choice to make. But regrettably you can only fit so much into one life. You can always come back to bass later. You don't have that luxury when it comes to being there for a child. That time of reading stories at bedtime, or pushing trains round on a carpet, is priceless. Don't miss out on it for a bass. Don't like to tell a guy to leave a bass alone, but being a fellow parent....

Lining yer knobs up (ooer) - does this bother anyone else?
So putting big arrows on the scratchplate in indelible felt-tip pen is just me then?
You missed doing that on one of two of your basses. Don't worry I'll bring a pen to the next Bass bash Oh, er.... yes. I line mine up too. -
I look at it the same way I look at my bike stuff if I want something big like wheels or in this case a cab I'll go online but if I need something small like an inner tube or strings I'll go to a shop
Sadly, your local store wont survive on string sales alone. I was on a weekend break in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire. I found a nice small store with a selection of basses. None were set up. The action was way-high and I'm sure the intonation was out. I got talking a bit with the owner until a real customer came in. He is a classical guitarist. was tempted to tell him that I wouldn't buy and the reason, but I have to say I walked out and he's possibly still none the wiser. Nice basses, but how can you try them if the action is far to high?

To the OP: That track you linked to is interesting. Sometimes the bass is on the beat, sometimes it's playing syncopation. It's all a bit random. But hey, you're not talking specifically about a tribute version of that track. Also, I wouldn't follow the visual anyway, they're not the same thing. On the listening: you can listen to an MP3 player on a motorbike or most places. If you want to convert a Youtube track to mp3 you can paste the link into this site and download the mp3 of the sound. http://hdtransform.com

fretless bass - what genre do you associate with
Grangur replied to bonnp's topic in General Discussion
thanks for the replys, i have bit the bullet and ordered the esp 5 string fretless from thorman, told the mrs it was 250 but still only 320 plus free delivery. going to but some black flats on as suggested
I've had one and regret selling. Mine had flats. For me it lacked bite. If I had it now I'd fit Elixir rounds, each to their own. That bass has a beautiful neck. You won't regret it. -
I would agree the profile is more D shaped than you would find on a Fender. This is understandable when you hear that the cover over the TR on a Fender is surprisingly thin, where Warwick is a quality bass rather than being a cheap mass production model. I have, by comparison, played a Warick from 2000 (ish) down at my local store. I think it may have been a Fortress, and the neck was much fatter compared to any other Warwick I've played. The advice really is go play before you part with good cash. A bit like most basses really.
-
ohhh... and I've also played Bluejay's Rockbass. The necks on my Warwicks are very similar to that on her Rockbass. Yours in anticipation... Grangur
Generally, the Warwick "Baseball Bat" neck period was 1999/2000-2009. The handmade eighties and early nineties bass were very slim, mid to late nineties they were all over the place. Post 2009 they went back to being slim again, although not as slim as the vintage models (however that profile is available as a CS option). I have actually never played a fretless Warwick somehow(!), however I'm sure they are great, providing you like the Warwick tone! Very different from an SG, have you tried both? Just choose the year wisely. If you like slim necks, look at pre-1999 and post-2009 models, if you like the thick necks then grab something built in the naughties.
This confuses me, my basses are 2008 and 2005 Both have 38.9mm nuts and the neck depth front to back is 20mm approx. You sound so very informed and accurate, but mine don't comply. I also don't recall re-carving them with a Stanley knife and if someone else did, they did a real pro job. My basses are: J147007-08 - Fretless H117225-05 - Fretted K110687-04 - Corvette All the necks are the same and the fretted Streamer is a neck-through, so I doubt that's been changed. (before you suggest the necks aren't original) Please explain. I'm looking forward to learning from a real Warwick expert like yourself.
I only play 4 strings, not interested or technically good enough to play one with any more strings Fretless question for you though, I've heard some people say that using roundwounds on a fretless damages the finger board and you lose impact after a while. Is this true? I've got flats on my Wyman and Hofner basses, so would like something different. Gibson SG special bass is at a criminally low £649, do you know of any Warwick bargains 3below?
I've got Chromes on my fretless, but looking forward to following advice from Tony Franklin - use rounds for more growl. Discussing this with others I've heard that Elixirs are smooth enough for them to not wear the fingerboard, but give the growl. I certainly like them on my fretted W'wicks

Would a bad Keyboard Player make you quit a band ?
Grangur replied to KennysFord's topic in General Discussion
In my opinion only, these two facts would make me run, not walk, away from the Band. You're never going to be listened to by either of them, and in fact, when it comes to the crunch, Family will nearly always 'gang up' on an outsider. Personally, I think you're a saint, because I couldn't have lasted two and a half years without saying something VERY forcefully about the situation.
Is it possible to try saying "I've noticed that you and I are both keeping the groove. How about if I so that and opening your left hand to add more to the melodies? " Doh! Damned mobile titnternet! -
Thanks Grangur! Warwick seems to be getting positive reviews, I'll make a trip up the smoke to a dealer there and give one a bash. Can't find them anywhere in South Wales.
I sometimes get to travel to Bristol for work. If I can wangle a trip there in the coming few weeks I'll drop you a line if that's any help. It would be in the week though.

Would a bad Keyboard Player make you quit a band ?
Grangur replied to KennysFord's topic in General Discussion
I left my (1 and only so far) band for exactly this reason: Heavy handed keys player who so happended to double as band leader. -
I have 2 Streamers. 1x LX fretless 2008 and 1x Fretted Stage 1 fretted 2005. The neck depth, nut width and general profiles are about identical. They're moderately slim and about 40mm wide. They're really comfortable to to me and I love the sound of both. The fretless is unlined with side dots at 1,3,5,7,9,etc I've got Chromes on the fretless and the sound variation is amazing using the onboard EQ and also great in passive mode. Would I buy it again? You bet! Any day. You're certainly welcome to try mine.
Here on BC we are a relatively well informed bunch but I don't think we are really a reflection of the average gigging musician.. Your regular BC contributor is well aware of most brands and types of instrument, amp etc. but we are bass enthusiasts (enough so to contribute to a forum on the finer points of bass related stuff) where as most people I've played in bands with haven't got the first clue about gear... The singer / guitarist in one of my current projects has been on the scene for years and played hundreds of gigs with various line ups and he was totally unaware that fender manufacture in various countries (MIM, MIJ etc) and had no idea that squire was fenders budget brand... he is fairly typical of people I've met in bands over the years. I think music shops will survive as the majority of people just don't know any better.
That's what I thought when I opened a games shop. I don't own a games shop any more. Edit: Maybe your guitarist is simply un-affected by GAS. So as he's not a buyer he wont affect the market in any way.
