Stuart Clayton does a series of good books for learning to read too. http://www.basslinepublishing.com/bass-essentials/the-bass-guitarist-s-guide-to-reading-music-beginner-level.html

Thanks for letting me know. I've now found its working on chrome but not on the android browser. So I guess the problem is a software issue on my phone. Thanks again.

As this thread is now up for hijacking... I was the one who bought HarperHawk's Little Mark 2. It was sold as having overheating/cutting out problems. I expected the overheating could be due to dirt or a failed fan. It was neither of those. So far I think I've fixed it. That problem was down to a dodgy Speakon socket not giving good contact to the plug. So I bought a new socket from Maplin and it seems to be OK now. I'll know for sure on Friday-week when the next band practice is. Just thought you might like to know.

It could have better if they'd confirmed with you that you were actually resigning, but from what you've said it sounds like you resigned and left them with no reasonable notice period. If you want the gig it's down to you to apply to their better nature to take you back IMHO. BTW, you say "one of my Police Tributes". So, do we take it from that you have/had 2 or more? Maybe you're over doing it? Maybe you need another type of band to allow you to play being YOU and let the creative YOU sine out.

Playing / Practicing / Reading Rhythms – Help Please.

One that's been used in formal music teaching for many years is the French Time Names. http://s3.amazonaws.com/teachershare.scholastic.com-prod/resource_documents/files/5809/original/Rhythm_Chart_Tpt.pdf?1298121176 http://www.nzmeb.org/download/French%20Time%20Names.pdf These were, apparently invented by the French army to keep their drummers in tune as most were illiterate and couldn't read music. -

As you have the luxury of having 2 almost identical cabs, have you thought about swapping the boards over? Doing that ould identify if the problem is located on the board or is the difference between the 2 a red - herring.

If he thinkd it looks so cool and sounds so great, why's hw selling it?

Hey! That sounds exciting for you. Good luck with it all.

Many thanks, Martyn, for the tuition books. All arrived really quick and just as promised.... just as expected. You're a top-bloke. Cheers Rich

I think the point Blue is making crosses over into many people's fields of interest. I was with some guys talking about football. One guy noticed I wasn't really interested, so he asked what my interest was. Very quickly the discussion got onto everyone answering "what is the greatest album you've ever had?" Isn't this like a guy saying he's keen on football and the conversation going straight to talking about players in pro-teams, when what he really wants to talk about is controlling the spin, whilst gaining lift, on a penalty kick. The fact is most people are simply incapable of having an intelligent conversation about any form of music beyond the simple level of "what do you like?"

New Band... is it a keeper or time to walk?
Grangur replied to Grangur's topic in General Discussion
I was asked to join a classic rock covers band. Got a list of 12 tunes to learn for the first practice. Turned up ready to rock, went into the first tune, aaaargh wrong key! Every one of those 12 tunes were not played by them in the original key and they had wildly different arrangements for them. It took a while to sort out. Just shows you how other people interpret tunes.I know I should have asked about keys etc.
Are you sure this isnt the same band? Loads of our numbers are in E. So I'm playing up in the 7th fret and a good number of invertions. -
I've been trying to do that with varying degrees of success for decades. Edit1 : Agreed - if you find yourself on the sofa watching EastEnders then you've failed and it's time for your box. Edit 2: Bottom line - if it's fun then keep doing it, if it's not then move on.
Hey, Mr D! We've missed you! Eastenders - exactly my point.
Lesson #457: This is the common MO of all keyboard players. You may have some work to do to "re-educate" him on Left hand technique. Good luck, this may well be why their old bass player died.
Did he actually die? Or was it he got fed up of being phoned for practise sessions and in the end he called out to his missus, "for God's sake, tell them I've died!" (as he lays on the sofa watching Eastenders. -
Reason I asked is I took a long break and when I stared again I came across a lot of 50+ people who were trying to re live the days in bands they wished they'd had, if you see what I mean. Expensive gear, but never seemed to do anythin but rehearse, and were nowhere as good as they thought they were. There seem to be as many old dreamers around as young ones, they just have more money and distorted memories, but thats bands for you. Dont get me wrong, I benefited from the experience, but learned to take most of what they said with a pinch of salt. main thing is it got me going again. Hopefully it will be the same for you.
Yep, sounds familiar. Still, what the hell; while I'm learning and it's fun. In some ways I'm a dreamer. I fit your description; trying to fullfil and old "pipe-dream", as my Mum & Dad used to say. But you have to dream or you may as well lay down and watch Eastenders!! Lord preserve us from THAT!
