  4. Welcome Sam. It sounds like you have a good setup going on there and it'll be a great environment for you to learn. My thinking is failry in line with Cairobill. £300 isn't a lot for the whole setup. I'd concentrate first in the amp. Ask around to find out if borrowing an amp at gigs is possible. If not, then you need to think first about the amp. If it come to it you can get a cheap Encore or Gear4Music bass for less than £40, But a £40 amp will be unlikely to meet the need at a gig. Incidentally, I bought a Gear4Music bass in great condition for £20. It's got hot pickups, so it'll work well in a band mix and feels great (after removing the brand name!)

  6. True, you were within your rights to contact Warwick. As you have no contract of sale with Warwick they were not obliged by law to do anything except refer you to Thomann. Warwick have now gone further than the law demands of them to help you. Round we go again.

  8. I just bought a Tascam GB-10 from Stuart. I made the mistake of not checking out this thread first. It makes good reading. Right frm the beginning Stuart was/is a great guy to deal with. It was a nice, easy transaction. Goods well packed and it came in a good case when ch I wasn't expecting! Thanks Stuart cheers Richard
  9. Strange how the title says "Call for £499.00 Price" Then in the listing the price is £595. So if you call and agree a sale outside ebay; forgoing the buyer protection, he'll sell it to you for £100 less? Why would he be SO keen for you to avoid the buyer protection? AND you can have this bargain delivered for "Economy" delivery of £30!!

What they failed at was communication.
  14. Your comeback is to the company you have the contract of purchase with. Warwick owe you nothing. Thomann is the company you have to go back to. Packaging doesn't matter if the goods are faulty. If, as you say it's not worth sending them back, then you have your answer. If it's not worth your trouble to prove they're faulty, then it's not worth their while to do anything. [/quote] You're being unfair on Warwick. Warwick don't make strings. They BUY and sell strings that have been branded for them. D'Addario MAKE strings - so it's far cheaper for D'Addario to give you strings.

    Going off topic slightly; I was surprised when a guitarist guy who lodges with Mrs G & I was showing me once how he mostly plays in drop C, but for a lot of tracks he changes the tuning, so he can form a simple chord on the frets and strum and get the sound he wants. He's not got the faintest idea of what notes he's playing in ANY tuning whatsoever. This then got me thinking about when, at a pro-gig, the guitarists (mainly) have a new guitar handed to them for each track. I guess this is because each track demands different tuning. So much for fans living under the illusion that [i]*insert name of well-know guitarist*[/i] is a brilliant musician. It's clearly mostly smoke and mirrors.

I've been thinking "It's hard enough to remember and work with standard tuning, let alone to have to remember the fret layout in the other tunings as well." Now I know, it's all just a case or remembering the TABs. After you've worked out and written the TAB sheet I guess, or do you get that from a TABs site?

  23. Hamfist; I thought he had the bridge down to the bottom. I've probably jumped to that conclusion as to me that would be the first, no brain, adjustment to fix high action. I think I'll just try to stop helping folk and just shut up.
