1. Just finished another. I like this one, it has your fingers running about a bit: Morning Has Broken - Cat Stevens / Traditional For those playing these, don't forget to play them in more than 1 place on the neck
2. Here's another little ditty I've been playing for ages. I've just amazed myself that I didn't have it written down! It's really easy, but good for getting your fingers working and playing about with speed. I often play it in a "blues" stylee. Ode to Joy - Beethoven Cheers Rich
3. If the setup of this bass is about the same as your others, try connecting the pup direct to the ouput jack and see if that cures it.
4. That appears to be reasonably OK, as far as we can see. To cut down the possibilities, can you disconnect the pups from the circuit and connect them straight to the jack? If that sounds much better and as it really should be, then I'd suggest there may be a problem with the capacitor or its connection. In which case, reconnect the pups through the circuit and remove the capacitor and see what it sounds like.
5. Does another bass sound good through the same rig? Does it sound muddy ALL the time or only when live? If you've put in a new harness, or re-wired it, is it possible you've connected something wrongly? If the answer is "yes" to all of the above, could you please post a pic of the wiring to the pots and the capacitor.
6. FWIW I had an Ibanez GW35 and was never too happy with it. For a 5 string I preferred the ESP LTD B-205SMFL. The bridge wasn't too good at taking a fat B string but it could be good with a high C. I'd agree that on fretless the G can sometimes give a bit of a "plink" rather than a good growl, but the ESP was ok. At a guide, the one I had sold for £220 on Ebay. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/234604-sold-on-ebay%3B-ltd-esp-5-string-fretless/page__p__2435188__hl__esp__fromsearch__1 It has a beaut of a neck.
7.
Was this a custom order? I thought that the LX came with a maple neck as standard.
Here's my LX with a neck in "dark maple"
8. If you're asking advice on the pot and socket then I guess you've not worked on a bass much? If not I'd suggest the routing to fit the pup is possibly the biggest stumbling block here: to get a good neat job. If you're happy to do the routing then I or others here can help on the elects. If not, why not get a luthier to do the whole thing?
9. The easiest way to do this would be to strip down the neck and use a DremeI or router to shape it. Now to your next issue: "Less than confident amateur" If you're not practical you probably won't own either of the above. Also if youre looking for a good pro looking job you probably would be best having an experienced person to do the job.
10. Hi there, a friend in Exeter has a family party planned for November 1st and wants a folk band to play. If you PM me with any links ypu have to soundcloud or Youtube etc I'll pass your details across and try to help you get a nice gig. Thanks for looking Richard

12.
Don't know how familiar anyone on here is with the American Deluxe Precisions, (2010 onwards model) but it has a switch to change between active/passive mode, the master volume and pickup pan are standard precision knobs but the bass/treble and mid/passive tone knobs are both stacked with the treble and mid knobs on top of the bass and passive tone knobs respectively. My problem is that when in active mode the mid and bass pots make huge difference to the sound when turned from fully off to fully on whereas the treble pot makes almost no change whatsoever to the sound whether it is rolled fully on or fully off. The bass is only 2 months or old and although it has the same batteries in as when I bought it, the bass had been directly ordered in by the shop (GAK) for me from Fender so it hadn't been hanging up in the shop at all being played so I would be surprised if it was a flat battery issue making this happen and surely that would impact all the tone pots not just the treble? Any advice as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated! Other than this though the bass has been superb, amazing playability and the sound in both active and passive is incredible, I would recommend the american deluxe precisions to anyone, such a wide range of tones with active and passive plus a P/J pickup setup. Thanks in advance
Look under the PG to see if there's any wires adrift. If not, contact GAK and get them to put it right. It must still be under warranty.
13. And if it needs to be black, how about using black nail varnish?
14. If the slot on your nut for the G string is too low, make up a small mix of baking soda and super glue. Fill the bottom of the slot with it and you're away. No problem, no need for a new nut.
15. Added Simple Gifts - A Quaker hymn. Not that I'm especially religious, but it's more pieces to play
16. This looks like it's going to be a good gig. I'll try to get along there.
17. What are you trying to do? Do you want to clean the body or polish it? Maybe if you post pics we might be able to help more.
18.
Why do bee's hum?
because they're lost for words: Like I am. Why is this bass still here? Actually I think BC has a long history of cheap basses not selling. Now someone prove me wrong
19. There's some really good tracks here again this month. Well done guys.
20. Nice one too! And in East Sussex; for those watching in "black and white" (mobile version) Probably showing my age here
21. He's in Guisborough, Cleveland. You can see this in his profile on the standard interface, but not in the mobile version
22. Hi there, Just want some advice here. I've been trying to adjust the intonation on the E on my Warwick Streamer and as the title suggests the saddle won't go back quite far enough. If the bridge was a BBOT I'd think of moving it back but I don't fancy doing it on a Warwick. Can this be a sign if needing new strings? Any other ideas?
23.
Yep I too have my thumb in the middle of the back of the neck and I pivot, it never moves up like in that picture. I really just do not have much of a stretch and the only way I can stretch is by angling my wrist awkwardly - and I don't want to do that a) because it's very tense and and puts wrist at a severe angle and then I'll get carpal tunnel (had that before years ago - developed by itself) and b ) because it hurts! Bear in mind Im 55 and a pretty weedy female, I have started and stopped playing bass over 3 years because of this problem and I often think I'm not physically made to play the bass!! I've had a couple of different professional bass playing mates glance over when visiting and say my hand positioning is okay but just watch that tension so I've spent the last month working hard on a the lightest touch for fretting that I can and a relaxed hand to avoid tension. My hands are a medium glove size so I haven't got small hands, but I'm determined not to give up as I've seen some tiny little girl players on youtube with child size hands who can barely stretch over 2 low frets! playing really well, not to mention the guy with one finger! So I'm not sure how else to play legato on the low end without being able to stretch over 4 frets - maybe I'll just carry on and see if it irons itself out
I'm fairly new to bass too, but it sounds to me like it's just tension in your hands and wrists. I believe you'll get there. I'm 55 too (this month) and it's taken me 3 years of on and off attempts at feeble fret-rattling to get something like a slap-bass sound, but it's coming. One day I'll also get rid of the flying fingers too, it just takes time. Keep on going at it. Get comfortable and play slow and relax. Don't wind yourself up and it'll come. If you want lessons Mike in Chelmsford is a good guy. He's listed in the Tutors section. I recon you'll be ok though.
