I've built 1 or 2 basses and have to agree with the above. If you're on a tight budget, then you'll be able to buy a reasonable fretless bass for less than the cost of the replacement pups and a fretless neck, especially as the routing for the pups is not where you want them. Edit: Hey this is a v-cool fretless Aria. It was on here but got little love. I was seriously tempted, but I've got enough. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aria-SB-40-Fretless-Bass-with-Hard-Foam-Case-/331112999547?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4d17df6a7b The BC thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/220888-now-ebayed/page__p__2271467__hl__fretless__fromsearch__1#entry2271467

Welcome to BC. Don't forget there's no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers, but you can be sure the guys here will help you a lot.

Hey Myke, nice bass! My strings have just arrived in the post today. I'm a bit concerned about the length of the strings. My guitar is 23" from bridge to nut and the strings delivered are 29" long. There's not much length to play with. In fact the G string is only 25" long! Is this how yours came guys? Edit: Got my answer on this - yes this is normal

I use a Vox Amplug. Mine's fine. They're not cheap. Id take yours back if I were you.

Surely the only person who can make a claim from the courier is the person who paid them to do the work. So if it's the seller, the buyer has no way of claiming from the courier's insurance? So if the seller places the order for the shipment (with insurance) and he declares he's not responsible then there is, in effect, no insurance in place. Answer - don't buy from him.
I don't know if this is a gear issue or a technique issue so mods, feel free to relocate this to the appropriate forum. Whenever I play, the harmonics at the 9th fret keep sounding, regardless of where on the neck my left hand is fretting. My Squier VM PJ has a pretty high action - it hasn't had a set up yet because I don't have fifty quid to spare right now lol. Is my issue related to this, or simply something to do with bad technique?
Can I just go back to your original question... You say the harmonics continue. So is this where you hold your fretting finger lightly over the string and pluck the string over the pup with the other hand. The harmonic note is played and it continues even after you've removed your fretting hand from the neck/string? If this is what you mean, this is normal. This is why the harmonic is used by some folk for tuning the guitar; using the fact that the note doesn't stop. Learning to do a set-up is desirable, but nothing to do with the harmonics happening in this way.... unless I'm missing something.
I'd clean the body gently with a polish that is nitro-friendly: press too hard and you're through to the wood!
I'd use a soft cloth and a small amount of Flash general cleaner - don't get it really wet, just a damp cloth. As we say here in BC-land "if there's no pictures is doesn't exist

I've voted. It was close, but you have to choose 1 I guess.

The diagram you have seems to be wrong in a few small ways. The "Red or White" should read "Red & White" The diagram also appears to make no reference to the Green, which should be connected to earth, with the black and the cable screening. I live in East Herts, over by Stansted Airport. Maybe you could take another look at the circuit and try wiring like this: http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/default/files/diagrams/pj_2v1tparHB.pdf Then, if it's still no good, maybe you can try a thread with a heading like "Help needed near Buckingham". If not then maybe we can sort something out. Cheers Rich
But doesn't these solderless kits do away with that and change the position to the two 'holes '
The solderless kit only removes the need for a soldering iron. It doesn't change where the cables need to go. Maybe you should meet up with another BCer nearby who knows what he's doing. Otherwise If all else fails, send me the bass. I'll wire it and send it back working, for the cost of the shipping back to you.

It's been a good experience buying a p-bass project from Simon. He's a good guy, describes the good clearly and honestly and sells at a fair price, I think. I'd certainly buy from him again, and would even happily provide the Hob-Nobs if I were fortunate to meet over a cuppa. Cheers Si, Pics of the finished bass will be posted... sometime soon. Edit... the packaging was a real pro-job too.

Here's the link to the wiring diagrams on the DiMarzio web site. http://www.dimarzio....-diagrams#1-6-2 Reading the 2 top circuits: 2 Humbucker Bass Set (Parallel), 2 Volumes, 1 Tone 2 Humbucker Bass Set (Pickups Wired in Parallel), 2 Volumes, Master Tone They say the black and green should be soldered together and connected to ground/earth. - You have green to the pot. They say the red and white should be connected to the centre terminal on the volume pots. May I suggest you start again with the wiring diagrams? Good luck
-
There is a white wire that appears to link all the 3rd terminals. If this is connected to earth, then that might be ok, except this should also earth the case of each pot. You've then connected the variable resistor across the 2 wires of the pots. What you should have here is the red wire going to the centre leg of the pot and the green one going to earth - the same leg as the white lead, and to the casing. It would all be easier if you learn to solder, rather than try to use terminal blocks.

to post a picture here that's hosted on photobucket, go to view the image in photobucket, and look for the place to copy the "direct" link. Simply clicking on it does it. Then go to your post in BC. In the header of the post creation page you'll find there's an icon/button for "picture", click that. This will bring up another dialogue box with a field in it. Paste your link in there. click OK and finish your post,,, -

Small hands - Squier Vintage Modified Jazz v Precision

Basses are like boy/girl friends. You can be reasonably sure the first wont be the love of your life, but you should relax and enjoy the process. Have fun and make a menace of yourself at the shops. -

I agree with the above. Get yourself down to a good store and really try some out, even if you're only playing scales. Get the feel of some and go from there. -

A jazz has 2 pickups. You can change the volume output from each giving you a greater control over the attack in the sound. A p has less variance. Those who play a P generally like the fact that the sound is consistent that said, you can vary the sound from any bass using the position of your picking hand -

The difference in width is only 3mm. Would that really make such a difference? You should also have a try of some Ibanez. They're great instruments with slimmer, faster necks.
