i have told them heres the reply: Thanks for the tips. You seem to know what you're talking about. After your email yesterday I did a little research and with all the different models and series that are available, it was a little overwhelming. But then what do you expect from a drummer =/ I didn't even know you could get fake Rickenbackers. But what sealed it for me was the sound when I tested it. It does sound amazing, so the thought that it could be a fake didn't cross my mind. Do you have any idea as to how much we might be able to retail it for? Thanks again for the advice and help, Jake Cash Generator
Answer: "Firewood" It's sad that if you don't know your Ricks then it's best to keep well clear. But a while back I got shafted with a fake Fender. I sold it as a fake Fender. The buyers attitude stunned me - as long as the name on the headstock looked convincing it was in his view a genuine Fender.

Being the one who says "no" to gigs.
Grangur replied to Beer of the Bass's topic in General Discussion
Tell them they'll need to get a dep to cover the Christmas gig. Let them see how hard it is to find a player who actually wants the gig. They'll also notice how vans do cost money and drivers are needed. Also, if they won't have a meeting it does raise the question; "what issues do they know of that they DON'T want to face up to?" Good luck -
a new Mighty Mite neck maybe a good solution. Its very possible a good luthier's time will cost more than a new neck.
I tracked a frustrating hum problem back to my broad band over mains powerlines adaptor. When I turned it off the hum and crackling stopped. . http://www.pcworld.c...376659-pdt.html If you also have one of those things or the ones for sending media down the mains you could try turning off. Jazzyvee
It sounds like you could need to think if there's anything in your house you've only just turned on that wasn't in use for the first 10 days... the heating maybe? You could also try wiring a 13A plug with an earth cable only, then try touching the other end of the earth cable to all the exposed metal parts of the bass and see if the hum disappears.

First ever bass refinish/Mod- All Finished!
Grangur replied to Lord Sausage's topic in Build Diaries
I've just used car spray paint and lacquer. It was ok and smooth enough, but I know next time I'd be more patient and use more coats then sand it back and get a smoother finish and more lacquer, then I'd t-cut it back more and get a more full gloss finish. To answer your other question about nitro and cellulose you may like to read this: http://www.ebay.com/gds/Myths-about-Nitrocellulose-finish-for-electric-guitars-/10000000004635258/g.html -
First ever bass refinish/Mod- All Finished!
Grangur replied to Lord Sausage's topic in Build Diaries
Yes, the plate or no plate is a choice to make at the end. As this is your first ever build I would try a simple one colour finish if I were you. Swirls would look amazing but until you know you can master a good finish why go to the cost and hassle only to find you didn't get the shine or the flat surface you thought it would be? -
Help Needed Please! How do I find a good "local" promoter?
Grangur replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
What stage are yiu at? What aort of gigs are you looking for? If you're looking for chance to play in local pubs that's one thing If you want to work as a support to a big name act the answer could be different. -
Take it back to the shop. If they don't want to know, remind them of the "Sale of goods Act". The SOG Act says all goods must be "fit for purpose" and if it hums then it's not fit for purpose. You could also tell them on day one, that if you don't get it resolved within 30 days you want a refund. Then you've also set them straight about your expectations from the beginning. This saves arguing about it later. Good luck

Learning to read the dots - Sheet music to learn with
Sibelius you can save as PDF, midi, wav, mp3 ( as it has built in sounds to play you r scores back) as well as a few more different ones. But i have old version and want to upgrade however i feel its a bit of a rip off and a free scoring software would be fine i think as i only use it for transcribing exercises rather
Musescore saves to .mscx .mid (midi) .wav .xml .mxl .pdf .png .flac .ogg So it lacks the MP3, which is a shame.
just downloaded it... looks great! just what I need!
Which one? -

Grangur replied to Grangur's topic in Theory and Technique
BTW how I do this is I write them using Musescore (free software). I type up scores I have, or download some others have done. Change the clef and the key in the software and save them as a Musescore file and a PDF. If anyone wants the Musescore files I can load those too. I can load them to the Musescore library and you can then get them from there if you follow me there. -
yep - I find the rhythms harder than the notes, obviously especially so with trick rhythmns and heavily syncopated stuff.....
+1 The thing I find hardest is finding the notes on the FB fast enough to keep to the rhythm you know you should be playing. Only after that can you then play the CD or switch on the drum-machine and try to get the timing right. So each one takes some time. Learning to read the dots - Sheet music to learn with
Grangur replied to Grangur's topic in Theory and Technique
When I first posted this I had great intentions of re-writing and transposing and getting a better library of pieces together. Since then life at home got complicated for a while and I've been working myself on only a few pieces and in a different vein to the first ones. The first 2 are from a book by Stuart Clayton. I'm not going to reproduce loads of his pieces. The guy has to make a living and, in any case, he's a member here. These are 2 I've been working having re-typed them to remove the tabs. I don't know about others, but I find tabs a bad distraction, slowing down the reading of the dots as you try to read both at the same time. So here they are in the "clean" versions. Crash Bass Timed Ex, Day 21 - This is a cool simple bass line. Crash Course Bass Exercise 38 - This is one I find challenging as there's a few places on the fretboard you can play it and it makes you move about a bit - Thanks Stuart. (reproduced without Stuart's permission at the time of writing, but I'm about to mail him) The other I've worked on is the intro section from a great track from Chicago. If you don't know it, you can click here to get the youtube I've not done the bass part, that's not challenging at all, but the keys line is better. It's really only arpeggios, but not the most obvious ones on the fretboard. Colour My World - Chicago On this one the chord names shown may not be right. They relate to the piano score which I worked from and simplified somewhat. I hope you like these. In the meantime I'm about to get stuck into another of Stuart's books - The Bass Guitarist's Guide to Reading Music. Damn I hate the lack of rhythm; but it works - you actually learn to read better that way. Stuart knows his stuff and drags you yelling into the world of reading. I just can't wait to get to the stage where Tabs don't distract because the dots score is easier to read than counting frets. I hope others enjoy this. You may also find this thread useful too - http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 Cheers Grangur (Edited to correct a link - Thanks Bagsieblue) -

The plate you have is the bedplate that goes under the bridge is a shim for adjusting the initial height of the bridge. You could try it first with the plate and see what the set up is like. Then remove it if you want the action lower. I'd do it that way round as the screws will bite more into the body wood when the plate is removed. -
Looks good, but his links are broken.
All the links I tried seem to be working. There's some good tracks there too. Many thanks JamesFlashG
Usually if you miss it, just wait for a bit and you'll find another one comes just after the last beat of the current bar.
if you miss a few bars its called "the Blues".

Playing in time is becoming more challenging
Grangur replied to thunderbird13's topic in General Discussion
Can you use a click tone in an ear piece to give you the timing? Also, if the others know you're following a click, they may be stronger in trying to keep with you. Some devices will allow you to tap the rhythm as well, so sync with others who've already started can be achieved.... just a thought. -
Thanks for the advice. I'll bear Reaper in mind. So far I've only ever recorded myself once. So it's $60 Vs FOC. Very likely I'll be going for Reaper soon though.
