1.
Usually if you miss it, just wait for a bit and you'll find another one comes just after the last beat of the current bar.
if you miss a few bars its called "the Blues".
 2. Can you use a click tone in an ear piece to give you the timing? Also, if the others know you're following a click, they may be stronger in trying to keep with you. Some devices will allow you to tap the rhythm as well, so sync with others who've already started can be achieved.... just a thought.
 3. Thanks for the advice. I'll bear Reaper in mind. So far I've only ever recorded myself once. So it's $60 Vs FOC. Very likely I'll be going for Reaper soon though.
 4. Just shows that a trip out to find cardboard and dropping it off at a collection point would have netted him another £50 at least.
 5.
Reaper for me , my zoom pedals have a usb output aswell so I could record stuff through that before I got a proper interface .
I use a Zoom as well. Connecting with the pc using usb and recording using audacity. The only prob l have is I find I don't have any sound output when recording. So I'm playing acoustically. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
 6. Here's some pages for reading practice... if you're interested. 7.
I do, and I haven't. I suppose the P is just so ubiquitous. You don't have to think about it. You can always get your hands on one. You know what it's going to play like and sound like. It's easy and comfortable. You can pull her on like an old sea boot. Or something.
Yep. Fenders are a reliable, known quantity and replaceable. You can do pretty much anything with a Fender... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2rolE9DlbA
 8. You can't sell one on BC thanks to Ric.
 9. If I were negotiating in buying I'd argue that Puddle Of Mud wont exactly be adding much to the value in terms of it's long term value. Also, with Ric making it hard to sell them 2nd hand that has to lower the value as well.
 10.
I am. Without Leo Fender we'd all be playing Gibson's or, even worse, Rickenbacker's. Nooooooooo! Leo didn't invent amps or electric guitars or electric basses, but he did invent a production line approach which is the reason his instruments were designed and manufactured in the way they were, and still are today. That was the quantum leap which enabled Rock n Roll to take off and everything that followed. There are too many myths around Leo Fender but he changed my life so, good on him.
Sorry, Leo Fender didn't "invent" the production line. He may have instructed others to install one. Henry Ford invented the production line for the manufacture of the Model T Ford car. Fender did, i believe invent the bridge as we know it. Fender also achieved something in bringing to the market cheap, affordable instruments for the mass market. It's the drive for cheapness that meant the had to use a production line method of manufacture.
 11. Hmmm.... so you're fixing up a bass. List of parts to be replaced: Neck pups cables bridge... Is there much of it that doesn't need replacing?

 13.
Oh what a disappointment, as I clicked on the link hoping to see some decent Police-Camera-Action videos of car chases across the american highways, police being run over and cars being smashed, instead all I got was an ageing Gordon Sumner obviously run out of money, and bored from saving the rainforest. Sting was and still is a total and utter __________ fill blank with what you like.
Genius.. yep THAT's the word you were missing.
 14.
I doubt if it's a lack of honesty. The level of manufacturer that's going to send Ed Friedland a bass to review is going to make sure it's set up right and the fret ends aren't sharp. Even if he did get one in bad shape, the first thing he would have to do is go back to the press dept and ask if that was really their normal standard, and they'd send him a good one. After that, anything else he could criticise would be subjective and, on Youtube, would probably get angry comments from people who own that bass and think it's wonderful. And anyway, what doesn't suit Ed might suit you or me fine. I happen to like wider necks. The best you can hope for in a review is an accurate description and impression of it, and maybe that helps you make your own judgement.
You make a good point. In a previous life I used to send products to the press for review. So I do know how a lot of it works. The other point is it Ed's job to review basses and fill columns in the mag with editorial. If her were to slag off a manufacturers latest bass Ed would be concerned that I may be the last bass he will get from them. And the last thing Ed needs is to find a competitor can get instruments to review, but he can't. It's not an easy game.
 15. Cool stuff! Many thanks Bubinga. Now that's a road-worn Fender! AND he's earned the right to play one and it look genuine.
 16. 38 is pretty narrow. Is it just the neck width you need or should you be looking at other things, such as weight?
 17. LOL, thanks Ray. There's a link to my feedback in my signature
 18.
If we are all listing players that have inspired us then maybe MK hasn't been an inspiration to any who has posted a list yet. I wonder how many people have actually posted a list of 'inspirational British bassists' or simply a list of well known or famous British bassists?
+1 Also I said we got this far witout mention of Mark King. I didn't say I was adding him. We need to wait until someone say "he influenced me"... remove him please; unless you, dear Reader want to add him. Cheers Richard
 19. I just received 2 books i bought from Ray. Wrapped well and sent quickly. Top man Thanks Ray Cheers Richard
 20. Sold on Gumtreee
 21. On hold now. Pending payment from sale on Gumtree.

Does this tell you something about BC folk's vision of slap? (Lets not get into this discussion here)
 23. Real mixed bag of styles and levels. Agreed, Billy S is certainly not the best.
 24.
I'd suggest getting a decent multi fx pedal. This way you can learn which effects do what & if at a later date you want stomp boxes, you'll have a good idea of what you're after. Multi fx aren't so good at dirt effects such as overdrive or fuzz, but they're getting better & you could always add a separate dirt box if needed. Here's a link to a member's page that explains almost everything about effects. Start at part 1. It's a good & informative read. http://sheponbass.co...l+Chain+BASSics Oh, & welcome to the good side.
I don't know a lot about effects, but I've recently bought a Zoom B3. It's not only a multi-effects box, but also connects your bass to the PC for recording. It's a simple drum machine and a looper. The B3 allows you to have 6 effects loaded for quick access at any one time. So it should handle your needs. Richard
 25.
And Ed Friedland is exactly the reason why I consider YouTube demos to be mostly pointless. His demo of the Lightwave Saber sounds absolutely nothing like the one I used to have when I played it. IMO he just made it sound like Ed Friedland.
...as others have said; "the funk is in the fingers". The sound is down to you and how YOU play, so going by headstock names and buying "cherry-red" over "swamp ash" or whatever is all cr@p. You have to try one out. Thank God we still have some shops about still - not that that's my point.
