My ideal is a contoured natural finish. (Warwick Thumb is too rounded though) So basses i don't go for would be anything too "vanilla" like a solid-tone painted finish or 3tSB. Sharp edges are out - so no binding for me, and slab bodies.. forget that. And no burl tops either. I like a body of a good looking piece of wood, no veneers and "tops".
-
Nothing there sounds unreasonable to me. Some folk use mobiles and notice texts, some don't. They want to work with folk who do notice these things. My only possible reservation would be, is it a lot of work to get the act working well and yet only have 5-6 gigs a year? Especially if you're expected to pitch in for a share of PA or anything else. Mostly I like the sound of it. When can I get to meet these guys?
-
@TheGreek you just like having a dig. Always have done.
-
This isn't poor customer service, it's simply not having stock. The lady I spoke with did the best she could. Maybe it's a supplier issue as Warwick don't actually make their own truss rods.
-
I've got a 2006 Warwick with a truss rod problem. Warwick are saying there is a wait-time for getting the truss rod, of 14 weeks! Does anyone know where else I can get a 630mm truss rod of the type with the outer sleeve? I find this hard to believe Warwick don't have any. It's the same as they put in the current basses, so how are they making basses if they don't have truss rods?
-
Had a few problems with the bass I bought from Isabass in November. When it arrived the Truss-rod was loose and the strings were tuned to pitch. When setting it up I found the truss rod was always stiff and wouldn't get a setting for relief of less than 0.85mm (33 thou). This week the truss rod gave up completely. Took it to a luthier and he's sent me this picture. I don't believe Isabelle is dishonest. I think I've been unlucky. I think it's probable that she's not aware of good maintenance and results that can come about from not maintaining a bass.

this look like a really good build but ......

Going by your description of wowes, isn't it more fair to say, you like "Warwick basses", but in your experience, the attitude of the management stinks? Can still understand why your dislike of one can influence the other.
-
I've just had the pleasure of selling a project jazz bass to Rupe Rockdog. All went well and a good smooth transaction with good comms. Many thanks, Rupe.
-
Fair point, you do have to weigh the cost of the luthier work against the value of the bass.
-
#MeToo Having had a Wishbass (fretless) that I leveled the fingerboard on, and played some good and bad fretless basses, I think I'd get a good luthier to remove the existing fingerboard and fit an ebony one. If you don't get the fingerboard really, really, seriously flat, there will be irregularities in the mwahh. I even had a Squier VM fretless and wasn't happy with the fingerboard. When I removed the strings and ran my fingers down the FB I could feel very slight undulations; and when strung you could hear it. If you're going to do it, do it right. (If you're a PITA perfectionist, as I am)

As I'm here and have a tape measure: Neck pup 705mm Bridge pup 765mm Both measured from the bottom edge of the nut to the top edge of the pup when the bass is standing up.
-
It does, of course depend on the tone you're looking for. The MM pup is in the sweet spot for a MM sound. Evidence of this is the Warwick $$. I can take measurements if it helps?
-
Reluctantly having to move this on to finance another project. It's got a good feel and an amazing array of tones. Specification: Body; bubinga body Neck: maple through-neck with 24 frets all in good condition Electrics: $$ MEC with active MEC 2 band EQ. Vol, Pup-blend, Bass, Treble, 2x coil selection switches. Tuners: Gotoh black-chrome Nut - plastic Just-a-nut - adjustable. Comes with a gig bag. I'm based in Bishops Stortford, but travel about in the south, so maybe we can meet? I can ship too. Bad-side: the relief is a bit higher than on my other basses. The truss rod works and is adjustable, but it's at its full extent. It's comfortable to play, but if you're after relief of fag-paper height, this bass maybe isn't for you. Thanks for looking.

I'm clearing out a few things and I have this hanging about that someone might enjoy working on. It's a Harley Benton Jazz that's a bit beaten up. All the parts are there including Wilkinson Bridge and pickups. All that's missing are the neck-mounting screws. The control cover looks rough in the pictures, but it's only finger-prints. It's actually in good condition. I'm in Bishops Stortford, but I'll be be happy to post it.

Thanks for the compliment @Al Krow Have to say Mick @TheGreek's Streamer does have my fingers itching. It's in need of some "love".

1. Do you prefer buying from a music shop or online shop? The "shopping experience" is better in a shop, but the prices are lower online. 2. Do you prefer to try before you buy? Ideally yes. I normally buy used instruments, so this isn't always going to be possible. 3. In your experience what is missing from most music stores you have visited? Choice. They can't carry the range as the cost of holding all the instruments for punters to come and ding them is prohibitive. 4. How far would you travel to go to music shop? 30 miles isn't silly. It's more a question of travel time and "can you park, when you get there?" 5. What would attract you to a music shop ie range, price etc - Hmmm... tough. I've been a shop owner. (I was in the Video Games business) Thomman, GAK etc already have you beaten. The problem you're going to have is that to get the good prices from suppliers, you need high sales volumes. You won't have the sales volumes, so you'll pay more. You might even find you can buy cheaper from Thomman than you can from the supplier! Important: Take a look around at all the shops that have closed. Ask yourself 2 questions: 1 - Why didn't it work for them? What did they do that was wrong that made them fail. 2 - How can I run my shop where that can't happen to me? If you can't answer these questions and come up with a really ground-breaking answer, then put your money in investments. Don't open a shop in your own town just because it's what you fancy doing. Open up in the right place, because the market *wants* as shop. Good luck Bro. I hope you do well, whatever you do.

Want to a a bridge pickup to my p bass .... Essex based
Grangur replied to MarshallBTB's topic in Repairs and Technical
FWIW I'm with @Dan Dare on this. Find another PJ. At least you should get a PJ and find out if this is really what you find hits all the buttons. Also, check if the p pup on your current bass is in the same position as tbe neck pup on a pj. I suspect that on a pj its closer to the neck. -
