1. I'm looking for a looper and I was looking at "used", but saw the prices that are charged by WoodBrass.com and they have to be worth looking at. I know others have bought from them. They're in France. Their site is here: https://www.woodbrass.com/en-gb/SERVICES Anyone have anything good or bad to say?
2. One of these can help. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Desoldering-Solder-Sucker-Spare-electrosmart%C2%AE/dp/B003YT2F4I If you can get some melted and "suck" the molten solder off, then you might be able to get there. But, as EBS-f says, there is a fair chance of damage to the pot. Personally, I'd change the pot, if it's a normal 250K or 500K ohm type pot.
3. When melting solder, always melt some new solder onto the tip of the soldering-iron. I don't know the science, but it makes it better at getting the solder on the component to melt.
4. "Like". I think I must have missed the previous post. I'll have a search. This sounds interesting. Just done a bit of a search and a few of your posts come up http://basschat.co.uk/topic/59011-ancient-greek-music/ Other reading: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/271426-plato/ - Lefty added some good points here. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252340-modes/ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/66871-ive-confused-myself-with-modes/
5. Many thanks @Wateroftyne Here are a couple I've taken of the actual unit now.
6.
For that money, I'd expect fuel injection
Joking aside, this is a real heavy-weight of an amp. The tone is similar to a valve set up. It plays well at low volume, but I'm told it really comes into its own in a larger rig. That said, I don't believe anyone so far has really done high-volume with this particular one. This is a quality piece of kit, built well and solidly reliable.
7.
"A system of accelerated resistance of carburettor disconnecting the speakers" A Google translation I bet!
No, it is actually fitted with twin Webber carbs.
8. Hi there, Price for this weekend £735. After Sunday night it will go back to HandBox in Poland. So grab a bargain NOW! PM me to secure it. This is the same RedFighter Handbox amp that has been discussed on the HandBox amp thread This has been played a little but is essentially in "as New" condition. Leszek, of HandBox, says these amps are selling right now for 1125 Euro + shipping from Poland. So this is a great chance to pick one up as a bargain in the UK. This comes with a manufacturer's Guarantee for 12 months with the exception of electronic tubes. The sound is clean and there are a lot of controls to vary the sound. This amp also includes a "kettle lead". 9.
Well it's a sad day, but I need to admit it, I ain't feeling the love in fact it's boring me to tears, how hell do I get back on track before i do something stupid like go back to guitar help before it too late!
Been there too, done that. I gave it a rest and then when I felt a curiosity, I made time to re-think what I really wanted from the instrument. Boredom, for me, came from what I was playing not meeting the dream. So I took time to re-think the dream, find different music to play, and try to make changes to make it happen. For you this could mean a new band/project?
10. Hey Sam, Welcome to BC, from sunny Bishops Stortford. Nice bass btw.
11. Return them and get some from our own Obbm. Top quality cables, so I've heard
12. Lovely bass. The MEC split pups really put out a great sound. For those on a mobile, this is in Glasgow. Questions that might help you sell: Is this bolt-on or neck-through? Weight? Nut width? Are you prepared to ship? GLWTS
13. Richard bought from me a great Fender MIM p-bass. It l went smoothly and he's a top guy to deal with. Many thanks, Richard.
14.
I'm ever so sorry guys,I still have it haven't been here for ages. Whoever's next in line, can you let me know where to post it to. Will be Thurs/Fri of this week before I can get to the post office though. Again, please except my apologies. 16. I'd check out the wood under the finish and, maybe, make it "natural". Otherwise, I'd use whatever colour you like. After all, you're not looking to sell. Maybe someone can move this to the "Build Diaries" section? http://basschat.co.uk/forum/15-build-diaries/
17.
Can't you just pull the silk off?
Strings without silk tend to have smooth windings right up to the ends. So the metal windings are smooth against the tuning peg. Strings with silk have less steel under the silk. They have gaps in the windings and sharp edges to the steel, that the silk is there to cover. Most of my basses have good quality tuners and I don't want to have the posts scratched too much with the rough edges. If it costs money for a string maker to add the silk, so why would they do that if there wasn't a benefit? Or is it more a "serious disadvantage" of not having a smooth finish? Smooth metal windings are, no doubt more expensive to produce, otherwise why would makers introduce the silk covering as an additional process to the manufacturer?
18.
I'm not liking the wooden pick-guard on the 5er. It really jars..... The grain being 90 degrees to the grain on the body. But, maybe that's just me.
If you look closer, the pickguard grain does run the same way as the body wood. What you're seeing is a wave in the grain that gives a sideways line as well. All that said, I can appreciate that you don't like it. TBH, I would go for a different wood. I don't think that is a great combination either.
19.
I was mostly using the Motown sound as an example of the kind of versatility I'm after. I like all sorts of tones really. I'm trying to learn slap as well and only have the one bass so flats wouldn't be for me I think. Plug in preamp is interesting. This might be a silly question but do they do the same thing as the onboard ones? I get you. I definitely want to sort the break angle issue first, as you say, it might be perfect after that. But, that said, I do miss the little bit of extra "bite" of my old active basses, and I miss not having one any more really. And I'm gonna look for a preamp with a passive bypass so I've got passive when I want it as well.
What I use, if I want one is a Zoom B3. It has a number of pre-amps built in. To me, they seem to do all I can imagine I'd want. That said I normally use an EQ set flat. So it would be better to get other people's views on this.
20. On hold pending the usual.... To a new BCer in Leeds. All going well so far.
