That is indeed called Midnight Wine - I have a Mexican Strat (shhh, don't tell anyone on here - it's a guitar!) from 2003 in that colour. Fender Precision bass - broken nut advice needed!
Grangur replied to Deester's topic in Repairs and Technical
A custom-built brass nut seems little OTT to me for a MIM Fender. Most Fenders live with the same plastic nut for years. There's no reason why a plastic one won't last on a bass for ages, unless it gets knocked. Replacing a nut isn't hard, but it does take a bit of care. Gary Mac would be able to do it for you if you're near North London. Otherwise, there's possibly no better place than the Gallery, whatever you go for. -
What would you do- a hypothetical quandary?
Yeah thats my take a well, but its still up to the buyer to stay in touch, if they went AWOL for 24 hours without telling me and a definite offer came in, in the mean time then I'd probably take it. All theory of course as all my basschat deals have gone without a hitch so far ...
Very true. The OP's mate's buyer going off and discussing with the other-half tells me it's still only 50/50. It may be an excuse to disappear, or the missus(?) may say "no". -
Until money has changed hands, the item is still for sale in my book. Expressing an interest, discussing collection/meeting/posting, etc. are not a commitment to buying. Only a deposit or full payment means a sale.
If I was going to collect and was going to pay cash, I'd be disappointed if it was sold to someone else. I'd say it's sold when a timed appointment to meet is also a point when it's sold. -

Grangur replied to yorks5stringer's topic in General Discussion
In my view, if buying or selling, the item is still up for grabs by any other buyer until the buyer says "It's a deal. I'll have it. How do I pay you?" And delivery or collection is being discussed. What the OP has described is all still chat. -

I can't believe John K10GON isn't listed too. -

I've always had good service and parts from http://www.northwestguitars.co.uk/ Some of their budget parts, such as their cheap hi-mass bridges are pretty good too. -
Who plays the Heaviest Bass in the business? Why?
Grangur replied to Grangur's topic in Bass Guitars
Well my heaviest bass obviously used to be this one . Nice to see it restored to its former glory! I'd guess I probably played somewhere in the region of 8-900 gigs with that bass and honestly the weight never bothered me. To the extent in fact that I once sold a Spector Legend because it was too light. I just prefer the feel of a substantial bass for some reason. The fact that this old corvette had such a fantastic tone always made it worthwhile for me too. In the end it was the shape of the neck that put it to pasture rather than the weight.
Hi Rich, Yes, the tone is really something. Have another pic for old times... -

Hi there, I just know I'm going to regret this. This is a nice bass. I've spent a lot of happy hours playing this bass. It's in deep-dark red with a tort pickguard and a Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter pound pickup. The neck is rosewood with some lovely grain and I can let the new owner have a Fender soft case with this one. Electrics - all the compartments are copper lined. I replaced the pots with CTS linear pots and used an Orange-drop cap. The bridge is earthed and it sounds really good IMHO. The only reason for selling is that the world is full of beautiful basses. I want to cull the collection and find that single (or maybe 2) bass(s) that is the ultimate and really get on with a more simple life.... OK, don't we all? Not looking for any trades, thanks. I'm in Bishops Stortford (Think Stansted Airport), so if your near, you can come and try it. I also travel about in the south half of the country so I might be able to drop it in to you. I can post it too if required. oh, yes. This also has added genuine Mojo. As you can see in the pictures. There's other minor dinks and scrapes too. If you'd like more pictures, then let me know. Thanks for looking.
Haha, it was a link to an ebay advert which I later found out didn't work. Couldn't find the listing after that to re-link it....
Ads you see are based on what you've been looking searching for. So you might see an ad for guitar amps and I'll see one for bathrooms.
I'm probably going to be the only person to vote 'other' .
Nahh... Binkybass finds anything with less than 8 strings slightly lacking. I've got: 4 and 5 string fretted and 1x 4 string fretless. Still really tempted to go for a 6 fretless.

This is inspired by a comment I read in another thread. Lots of folk on here, when GASing over a bass will ask, nut-width and weight. There's a bass I've been playing that I might have to give up due to its weight, yet the last owner gigged it so regularly that the frets were worn down and there are channels worn into the wood of the fingerboard. So what's your heaviest bass that gets played? Do you gig with it? What about it still makes you want it? I'll kick it off with 5.37Kg (11.83 lb) In my case, it only gets played when sitting. The tone is deep, solid and rounded. It's got a solid Bubinga wood body.
Take it to Jon Shuker. He did my American Standard Jazz fretless conversion recently and it was a lovely job and cost me only £80.
Nice job. It's the first I've ever seen done well. £80 is a fair price too.
Just a thought for the future, Gear4music do a maple or rosewood neck for about 37 quid, I bought the maple one and it's brilliant.
I've got a Gear4Music "P-bass" rosewood neck sitting here doing nothing. I'd part with it for £20 posted.... if anyone wants one?

"Bad used condition but still great contrition" And so he should, getting it into that condition. Maybe the reference to mint is meaning "mint green"?

I was discussing 5s with Rufus Philpot, who often plays 5s as he's a jazz bassist. He recommended to not only check the B, but also watch the E string too. For some reason, some 5s have a weaker sounding E as well.

Mine arrived today. Many thanks, Alex.
