1. Yes, I'm beginning to get more into 5ers. So mine may get used less in the future. It'll be a real wrench if I come to part with it sometime. It would be tough; great bass, but a lot of dosh to commit if it's not being played.
2. I'm a noob in all this mic stuff. Bass is complicated enough for me. Fairly soon I'm planning to have some skype lessons. I've got a web cam with an integral mic - which is all good, if the mic is up to the job, but it's bound to be cr@p. So, I've also got a Scarlet 2i2 and a Scarlet Studio mic. With that I've got an XLR-XLR lead, but nowhere to plug it in. Is the Scarlet mic the way to go? Am i making this all very over complicated? Any tips? Many thanks Richard
3. I'm sure mine's not lead free. But at our level of use it's not a problem.
4.
Price drop: £3000 or 3500€.
If you've dropped the price to £3000, would you be better to change this in the OP? Your OP still says £3050. GLWTS... It still looks stunning. But I've no space in the rack ATM
5. Nancy J has a P-bass version of one of these. It's a really nice bass. GLWTS
6. And still looking desirable, but alas 'tis not to be. The bass rack is full 'til I sell a Fender, which won't happen until I get pups back from Alex. Sigh.... GLWTS
7. I've got one of these. It sings beautifully. The clarity of the notes is better than any other bass I've had. If I'd lost mine, this would be gone!
8. A quick look at Maplins site and I found "Antex Lead-Free Solder 2m". That looks ok. Steer clear of anything over 2mm gauge is the main thing. Maplin do their own brand rolls too. They're probably good too.
9. I'm still using a large roll I picked up at work in the 1980s. So search me! If you're near me, come round and grab a few windings. Otherwise there's Maplin.
10. Nice project! That's been painted by rattle cans. The finish you see is "orange peel" effect. It's what happens when you spray with the can too close to the work. I've painted a few bodies with cans. But to be honest if you're wanting a perfect finish you can't beat a pro job. After all the cost of paint and other materials and your time it's money well spent.
11. I'd happily do it, but I'm in Herts.
12.
That story about teeth and a music stand, is it a film myth or is it really true ? The Big Band had been around for a while (although in various sizes). Also, the Glenn Miller 'Signature' sound was Clarinet leading over two Altos and two Tenors. Short demonstration here, complete with music stands (they must all be deps).
My understanding is it's true. My Dad was a big fan and he understood it as true. But if someone knows different I'm open to learning.
13. I totally failed to find a clip of these in use. So I bought his P-bass pups and they're good. No, I don't have a recording, and Barefaced Bass have them at the mo' doing some testing. Installation would be the same.. You could also watch the video I linked too. JC, in the vid is installing dual-coil Aguilar pups.
14. Don't think I'd go the angle-grinder route either. I've done some re-frets, never done a de-fret though, but I don't see a problem. as BassBuss says; you can find enough instructions online. Don't forget to lower the nut and bridge though.
15. You can't go wrong with Barts. They're good, but why not go for a hum cancelling pup. Jess Loureiro does some great, hand wound pups. http://jlguitars.eu/...egory&id_lang=4
16. Your link doesn't work for some reason. Try this one: https://www.bartolin...product/9su-ls/ Those shouldn't need a battery. So it should be a straight case of 1-out, 1-in. http://youtu.be/fajbgkT7Lcw Also, why not go for a hum cancelling pup. 17. Don't knock it. Glen Miller discovered his "big band sound" through an accident with a horn player and a music stand. The horn player was going to sit down, his his horn into his teeth as it hit the music stand. From there on the trumpet player took over the horn part and "Big Band" was discovered... not a a lot of people know that.
18. "it'd be cheaper and less hassle to just buy a Jazz neck and bolt it onto a P body", Just think of the cost of all the labour and the re-fret. If a re-fret costs £100-200... you can buy a neck for £200.
19. This is mine. I've never had a bass complain it wasn't comfortable.
20. https://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/hiscox-standard-bass-guitar-hard-shell-case-std45ebp.html?source=shopping&sku=hisstdepb&gclid=CLS-3_DHv9QCFVIYGwodtM0MLA This one is described as having a "a plush lined interior." I've got a Hiscox with plush lining too - like the one I sold, but Hiscox.
21.
This is one of those occasions I was taught about as a child where if you can't say something nice it's better to say nothing at all...
You're very right, of course. But the question asked was "why should I avoid getting one?" You can't say: 1 - The balance well, 2 - They offer something different, not just a me-too version of a Fender like so many others 3 - Unique sound 4 - versatile output config through the 2 jack sockets 5 - ..... err..... but there must be a 5th
22.
LOL. What did you have? I can't find anything in the UK.
Sold in 30 mins. Not exactly "tear drop". But not far off. But it bumped your thread.
23. Reasons to be cheerful part 52: 1 - John Hall 2 - Right forearm 3 - 2 Jack sockets (wassatallabout?) 4 - 2 truss rods (wassatallabout?) 5 - They're ugly (IMHO)
24. I just sold one this morning! Sorry, I'm not helping much am I?
