1.
Can't beat a classic Overwater 6er. GLWTS Dave
This is what I'm hoping... Where in Bucks are you located? Interested in coming and trying. (Sadly this is also what gets called "tyre kicking" if it turns out it doesn't sing like I'm looking for, but you have to find out one way or another.) This is a genuine wish to try with a view to buying.
  2.
Why is it that when a guitarist asks you if he can have a go on your bass, they always try to play a solo up at the 12th fret, get bored and hand it back saying the neck is too wide??
You missed out the other comment of, "how do you play on gas-pipes like that?" Yet, isn't that a successful outcome on many levels? 1. The bass is back on the stand undamaged. 2. The guitarist has got it out of his system and won't come back to often. 3. He didn't like it 4. He didn't show you how to play the solo you've struggled with for 3 weeks. 5. He's not after taking your place in the band. Yep, you dodged a bullet there.
  3. I think he's optimistic. And his pics are useless

    SOLD
Sale fell through so this one is available again. Price dropped to £900.
This is confusing. The first post says "sold"
  5. Hmmm.... black huh? Yes, maybe we could organise something.
  6.
There's one at DV247 which I should go check out, which seems to be competitively priced for a new Spector. http://www.dv247.com/guitars/spector-euro5lx-bass-guitar-black-cherry--80045?gclid=CjwKEAjw6e_IBRDvorfv2Ku79jMSJAAuiv9Y52PBwaE1_yRt-BkJHJTWXNQqdi-jI_iT_YHwolk0AhoCB03w_wcB I found the Warwick SS1 to be very playable and comfortable as a 5 string. Two things I've immediately noted about the Spector is that it is 35" scale with a 47mm nut vs 34" and 45mm for the Warwick. I suspect that is going to have a fair bit of an impact on how comfortable the thing is going to be to play? I'd also be very interested in folks' views as to whether these really still are substitutes for each other?
There's a risk here that I might not be helpful. But that red looks gross. (IMHO) I'd want that for 50% discount at least. Actually I'd go for this and use the 30 days to see if I like it. http://www.dv247.com/guitars/spector-euro5-lx-nsg-bass-guitar-natural-stain-gloss--240203 PS. Let me know when it arrives and i can bring the Warwicks round again for a direct compare.
  7.
Al You know my philosophy If you can go for the best quality there is that suits you.
Thank you. You just helped me make up my mind on a MiM jazz on Evilbay. It's almost new and a good price, but I don't need it.
  8.
May be worth us all taking a step back to the Car ownership example, where the log book does not prove ownership you are the keeper. The scrappy piece of paper that says Received from J.Smith £3k for Car reg ABC123A is what counts We should and i have done, but more recently got out of the habit of asking for a receipt when buying large items say a Bass at £2000. mainly for tax returns but knowing this receipt showed i was the rightful owner at this time. Lets face it how many basses and cabs on here have been owned by 3,4,5 of us and all past owners have pictures and written down serial numbers ??
Good point. Maybe those here with no documents should create a set of documentary evidence for identifying our collection of "keepers" and get a friendly solicitor, policemen or similar to sign as a witness that on x-date you are/were the owner of this bass(es).
  9. Count the beat as you play it. Go back to basics and if it's a 4/4 count 1,2,3,4 or 1&a, 2&a 3&a,4&a, or whatever it takes.
  10.
Yeah, I didn't explain my point well at all. You use the radius in a bass set up to even the string height across the curvature of the fingerboard. But in terms of playing a bass say, what difference does this make?
The greater the curvature, the more comfortable some folk say the neck is to play. In practice a deep curvature helps you play chords by allowing you to fret specific strings yet keep your fingers clear of the other strings. Metal players often like a flatter neck radius because it makes it easier to bend notes. When you get custom built instruments some builders will also do compound radius necks. These may have a 7" radius at the bottom end and a flatter radius for bending the high notes up the dusty end. Classical guitars often have flat necks, btw. Which seems to go against all I've just said. So I guess it's all down to taste. As for me; I know what I'm used to, but don't know what I'd choose if I had to.
  11.
Why does bass playing have to have groove? Personally groove comes way down in my list of what makes something interesting.
Some genres of music don't really groove. If you watch the body language of the guy in the clip he is rising and falling to some kind of beat. He is also playing a lot of slap; a style that is normally used to punch in a strong beat. Mark King plays this style as he was originally a drummer. So to me everything in the guy tells me he thinks it grooves, but for some folk here it doesn't. It doesn't keep to a beat much at all. And I speak as a guy who was told this week that what I do is play classical guitar on a bass: Which is probably spot on. But I like to think I play with soul and feeling. I'm sure Wojtek also feels he plays with a beat and soul. Good luck to him.
  12. Presumably you could fit a pot with a push/pull switch to switch the pre-amp? Also, when measuring the drain current you might find the high impedance of some multi-meters could give a false reading.
  13. Didn't see the sarcasm, but IMHO, it is putting another angle on playing the bass. I too don't feel a groove there. I wouldn't dance to it. For me it's too busy. But, there are some types of jazz that I could say that about too.
  14.
Good recommendation, and shameless plug here, I`m selling one for £50 del in UK. Which is nice. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/299395-fender-rumble-15-v2-l50-inc-delivery-in-uk/page__p__3268657__hl__rumble__fromsearch__1#entry3268657
Yours was the 2nd one I listed Lozz. I can also vouch for Lozz being a really reliable guy. For your budget a Roland Cube would be good, if you get to see one used for the money.
  15.
Ideally £150 ish...used not seen anything localish just yet
Where is localish?

  17. It depends on the sound you like, but I'd find all those mentioned so far to be a bit "clanky" or "electronic" sounding to my liking. I like a more bass, bluesey sound. So I'd go for something a bit more powerful. Or a Phil Jones Cub or similar. It does, of course, depend on what budget you have to work with too. If you're a bit stuck for finance, then look out for something "used".
  18.
Alembic style.....IF I were Alembic I would be suing for slander.
Don't see a problem there. It's in the style of an Alembic; just like my old Sierra is in the style of a Bentley.
  19.
I claimed. The claim was declined. No sign of violent break in. Any returned goods are mine. Still waiting with fingers crossed. Update to follow once I liaise with the police. Andy
Sounds good. Good luck
Hopefully you can prove they are yours other than just by an unusual roqsolid cover. My stepson had a load of fishing gear nicked. He found some in CC. The police found out who sold it fton CCTV. They were familiar with him. My stepson was asked if he could prove they were his. He said he could get the shop to vouch for the stuff he bought from him. That wasn't enough. The shop kept the gear and the thief got away with it. They are legalised fences
The original Police Incident report from the reporting of the theft should go a long way - otherwise it would be an amazing coincidence to have reported the gear stolen some days/weeks/months back and now finding stuff meeting the same description in a local CC shop. The OP must have reported it for the original insurance claim, even though they didn't pay out.
  20.
This is back for me too as of this evening. Windows 10, running Chrome.
Me too.
  21. It would be a good start if you have your bass set up. This will help find out if it's simply an adjustment thing or if you need the frets looked at. There are some good videos on YouTube for showing you how to do this. Otherwise, take a look at the pinned thread in the repairs section, entitled "BCers prepared to look at a bass". Then contact someone in your area who can take a look.
  22.
Never sold a bass on here before so didnt know you could edit title. Thanks for your kind words
LOL Sorry!! (Note to self... stop being a miserable old git)
  23.
Now sold thanks
Any chance you of you putting "Sold" in the heading, or are you inconsiderate?
  24.
I'll put a better picture up soon.
Just sayin'... It might help with the sale. GLWTS.
