1.
Something I do when I buy new items, I just bought some new Genelec monitors for example. I always keep the boxes for everything, and I keep the receipt for the item in the box, up in the loft. I always make sure that the serial number is written on the receipt too.
Good call. But most of my gear is bought paying cash, BACS or PainPal. I think I'll take up keeping photographs and photograph the serial numbers too. Then keep the images on a OneDrive folder.
 2. This thread has got me thinking. Bass gear is nothing like a car. Cars have to have documents. Bass gear doesn't always. If I became short of cash and took all my gear to a CC, if anyone were to claim it was stolen gear, I have nothing to prove I've paid for any of it. I can see I'll be taking pictures and recording serial numbers.
 3. How about hand wound pups from Jess Loureiro Pickups. I've not tried the jazz pups, but the split coil pups are really good. http://jlguitars.eu/shop/index.php?id_category=16&controller=category&id_lang=4
 4. See if they will hold onto it all of you put a deposit down on it?
 5.
Sold pending
Drop me a line if the sale falls through, please.
 6. In the time I've been on BC I've noticed there seem to be more folk in the north than the south. People often talk of regular gigs with multiple bands. I don't see this happening often here in the south. Isn't all this, and the occasional higher rates of pay, down to the fact that folk in the north simply spend more on their leisure than we do in the south. So, as a result, there's more cash flowing about. I know this is going off topic but, house prices are lower in the north. I suspect this is because those in the north have different priorities and will spend on leisure rather than bricks and mortar. This is evidenced by the number of clubs in the north. In the south they simply wouldn't survive in those numbers; southerners don't spend in clubs. Or am I wrong?
 7. This year's bash seems fated.
 8. He say it has "done me good over the years".. How can a bass player of a few years standing, not know the spelling of "Fender"? I'm also amazed at the time you hear of folk selling basses where "a mate left it round 'ere" is the explanation for them having it. How many times has ANYONE here left a bass with a mate and simply not bothered to pick it up?
 9.
Hey, where are you based? Would love to give it a go, currently looking for a fretless
My guess is "Birmingham", but I may be wrong. It also could be "Birmingham, Alabama". We can't be sure it's in the West Mids.
 10.
I love the idea and was a member for a decade, but each time I had to contact them they were completely useless. Even with routine enquiries it was like hitting my head against a brick wall. I had to use the Northern office, but I expect your experience would depend on your local office. It's a real shame as I would love to be part of an effective union for musicians. I have heard good things about the ISM.
My Bro in Law is a pro player and teacher. He's a member of the ISM, as was his mother too. They have found them useful for legal advice. They could be worth investigating.
 11. I must say, Sir, you have a nice carpet in your workshop. And those adaptations you've made to the [s]dining tabl[/s]e workbench took good too!
 12. Hey Jez, this SS is amazing. It's great to see your work as always. Interesting we should both have wives with a habit of using similar terminology for the workshop. Mine keeps calling it a "conservatory", or "lounge". Where DO they get these odd ideas?
 13. Hey! Heartfelt congratulations young Sir! "Break a leg"
 14. Even at £40 a head it would probably pay your petrol and avoid paying for rehearsal room fees, and it gets your name out there. Good luck with the band
 15.
good to see you concentrating on the modern crap Far superior to the classic crap
Excuse me, Sir. You are not from Sussex. What does a person from Essex know of the "Crap music" scene in Sussex? We're not welcome in this thread. Hey, maybe we should start a whole new section for "Sussex only"?
 16.
Why do you say that? The bass player looks like he has a wireless wotsit in the jack and the guitarists have leads.
Playing whilst doing synchronized dancing and hardly moving the fingers. And, yes I'm a sceptical cynic. She wouldn't be the only miming "live" artist. There are others.
 17.
Was this intentionally patronising? I'm just trying to get a bit of an overview from people on the sussex circuit.
FWIW I read that as simply being realistic, even if it was, to some degree, stating the obvious; if you build up a good rep, then you might be able to command more. (even true in Sussex, so I believe)
 18. I know this is a different performance: http://youtu.be/dqo2DxUBb-o ... but as a member of the audience, would you feel cheated that the band clearly aren't playing live?
 19.
The new date is my daughter's birthday, so unfortunately I'm going to have to give the bash a miss this year.
+1 .... yes, really. It is also my daughter's birthday.
 20.
I think Safe is great. sorry. ill get me coat.
Oh, I do so LOVE predicted text..
 21.
Beauty in bass aesthetics is in the eye of the beholder as with everything... Personally I think a P bass looks fine but I find PJ setups a bit jarring on the eye ... also uneven P pickups on a 5 string look weird.
There is another way to do split-coil on a 5: http://www.wildepick...ss_Pickups.html They also sound great.
 22. Nice to hear you speak well of your sister. What do you think of Sade?
 23.
In your opinion what addition protection does a thin layer of cardboard have?
It stops someone bursting your bubble(s). I too don't use a case often. IME nobody pays more for a bass if it has a case, so I sell without most of the time. So it's thick bubble wrap and cardboard. Never had one damaged yet... touch wood.
 24. Is this that new kelvar bubble wrap then?
 25.
Glad you got something out of the post! Just re-read your original post and this jumped out at me: Without wanting to pass comment on your lessons - about which I know nothing - this is really an area that any teacher should cover sooner rather than later; it stops you wasting time (and money) and ensures that they don't spend lesson time recapping too much content from the previous lesson. Everyone wins. If a teacher can't outline some clear and effective strategies for practising that are directly applicable to you then, well...
You're right, of course. But from my experience, few people offering services as "teachers" really offer an effective service like this.
