1.
Being a newbie to Basschat and all things bass-wise; what happens at a Bass Bash?
Folk take along their basses and rigs for others to try out, and everyone has the opportunity to try out a sorts of gear that you won't find in the local mucic shops. You also get to meet other BCers for a chat and put faces to names.
2. Sounds good Mick. It's good you managed to get another booking date.
3. [Pedant] I doubt anyone actually makes scratch plates on Basschat. But there maybe someone on Basschat who makes scratch plates. [\pedant] Good luck
4. I had one of these. If you take the time to work on them, you can make them into a decent instrument. But if you don't like the rustic look then it, okay it isn't for you.
5. I'd probably come if it was on another day.
6. A long time back I spent a week in Amsterdam with the ex-Mrs G. Amsterdam is good for art galleries. There are attractive street markets and boat trips on the river. You can also go to visit Ann Frank's house. Leiden must also have things to do, though.
7.
I'm having quarter lines on my incoming Wal. A previous bass had them and they were barely visible from the front but from the playing position looked like full lines
Have to say, I like that.
8. Sounds like you need a set of imperial Allen keys.
9.
What's the string spacing on this?
Thisxwill be the same as on any 5 string Warwick. You can adjust the spacing. I have mine at about 18mm. You can adjust narrower if you wish.
10. As you dont yet own the bass, play a genuine fretless Warwick bass before you convert one. Try it out and get a good feel for it. You also have to think about the re-sale value; which will be more saleable? I've got a 4 string fretless LX if you're interested in giving it a go. I'm a bit of a drive from you, but it's nothing when you think of the money involved.
11.
nice bass!
You're privileged. I'm waiting for an email with the pictures. Posting a link is all well and good if it takes you to the pictures, but I got one saying "An email has been sent to the owner letting them know that you would like permission to see them". WRT is that?
12.
Pm sent
Sorry, I've already agreed to buy this. Mick hasn't got round to marking it "sold"
13.
Also on Gumtree and eBay....help your compulsion?
I've already agreed with the owner to pick this up next weekend.
14.
I went to a dyslexic rave last night, everyone was taking F, and one bloke in the corner was trying to inject a heron.
To a dyslexic that is offensive. I would definitely not buy anything from you.
15. This is a really nice bass. I remember playing this in Oldman's studio. Over a year back. It has a beautiful finish. It's light weight and the neck is smooth and just the right level of mwah. The tone was amazing, I loved it. Just didn't have the £700 that was being asked back then. At this price I'd have snapped it up. It's better than a Fender IMHO. (I was there to try another bass) I already have a 4 string Warwick fretless, or I'd snap this up.
16. That's a very dark maple in the fretboard on that one. Not your usual style, Tom?
17. Also, if you can, get a statement from the cab supplier detailing what their standard packaging is like when they ship by courier. If yours was stronger then it adds weight to your argument. Even if it's not a Barefaced, maybe Alex can help here? How do Barefaced ship their cabs?
18.
I think the received wisdom on here is to plug the existing holes with cocktail sticks and superglue, cut the sticks off flush and drill the new holes where they should be, you could use the pickup cover as a drilling jig if you lined it up with the scratchplate.
/\ This /\ Next!
19. I'm finding a lot of the questions difficult. Even Q1: Favourite bass player. There are so many who are favourite for many things; particular bass lines, techniques, styles etc. Being a music fan isn't quite like following a football club.
20. Jezz, your work is stunning. This is great.
21. Hi Yuki, Welcome to BC. I too can't claim to know the Aria. Accoustics can be very quiet. That's all I would say. My personal view is, if you need an amp to hear the acoustic, you might as well have an electric one. But don't let me stop you. All I would suggest is to buy it online - so you can try for 30 days and send it back if you change your mind. Good luck on playing the bass.
22. I guess also thst for Fender, shipping instruments by the container-load round the globe $60 for a CITES certificate covering 300 instruments is no big deal. For Chowney Bass to ship 2 basses to "Music Division" (a great shop) here in Sofia, Bulgaria; it's £57 added to the shipping. Which is about 10% on the price of the bass. Oh, isn't it great we're helping major industry fight off the terrible onslaught from this nasty independent enterprises.
23.
Exactly the same as ones manufactured right now. As far as I know the trade restrictions apply whether it's brand new or a vintage instrument. If you wanted to ship them across economic borders (within the EU is fine) you would need to apply for an export license. Off the top of my head this is about £57 and takes about 15 days to apply for. You're fine to travel with an instrument you own though. I think those are exempt.
So When a BCer from the EU mails a seller asking, "will you ship to Spain?", pre-Brexit, the easy answer is "yes". Post-Brexit, it will probably be, "no, because CITES, makes it a major PITA".
24. We we're invited to a gig this last Saturday, by our dentist. It was good and went down well. The audience were seated at tables and some were up and dancing. Some of the tunes that went down best were, "When the Saints go Marching in" and "Auld Lang Syne". Yes,it was this last weekend. No, the audience were not massively drunk. Yes, over all, it was a good gig. It does, of course depend on HOW you play any song.
25. Danelectro are made with hollow Hardboad bodies.
