No problem, but the fact I've not had a pay rise in 4 years should mean inflation has remained at zero. And before you blame Mrs Largo, the fact she is disabled, had to give up her own business 10 years ago & is now also under threat of having benefits taken away or cut should actually mean you guys (& girls) will all be much better off than you were a few years back. No worries though, my sh*tty circumstances means inflation must be about -40% for the rest of you 👍 I'm still not going to take the blame for Trump though. That's taking it too far 😂
Sorry to hear about Mrs L not being so well. life is, simply not easy for many folk. You are right, of course, on the low inflation atm as many have had no rise for years. (At the same time, MPs took a 10% increase last year.) I was simply describing how the system works. On the situation of basses, what isn't fair is when I scour the Marketplace for 'bargains', nab them before you've had chance to talk Mrs L round on you buying one in, as long as the other goes, and sell it for a small profit, just because I can. So what I'm, effectively doing if I do this, is acting as 'the Bargain Police.
Sent. The local post office asked me what was in the package 'for security reasons' and had a bit of a panic when I told them it was a couple of strongish magnets, but in the end they slapped a 'danger! magnets!' sticker or somesuch on the parcel and off it went.
I usually simply say "adult toys". Thats a good cover-all for mist things I send.

STOP! Please. I'm drying my eyes now I've laughed so much. You can't blame Largo for it all. Mrs Largo had something to do with it too. (Thanks Largo for being a good sport)

As an aside: When playing a normal Jazz, have you noticed that when both volume pots are up full, the output drops off? Assuming you do resolve this current issue that you're having, what will happen to the "volume crazies" when you have 3 pups? IF I may be so bold; perhaps you should think about which pups you will want going at any one time, then fit a pup selector switch to control them? It would be worth taking a look at a strat, 3 pup system wiring diagram and see how that works.
so it's all largo's fault. There.
Yep; the banking crisis, inflation, world poverty, Donald Chump and Brexit.. everything.
Business that rely on selling for profit is different, but why do individuals have to make a profit on their gear? Why is society about making the most money you can out of something? If everyone sold their old Fenders or Wals for what they paid for them, then surely they should be happy just getting their money back. I'm certainly not into politics but I do think our economy is now built on this fixation with everything increasing in value, year on year.
I'm in the business of looking after my savings so I get to look after my family by not selling good stuff for silly money. Just because someone else is daft enough to get into a position where they're desperate for a sale and sell at a low, low price, why should I be forced to repeat the error?
Sorry this thread seems to be going a little off track. I'm no economist but what exactly is inflation & what exactly determines it?
Inflation is generally the situation of prices going up over time. Some of it happens this way: You want an increase on your salary because you like to think your employer should pay you more because of loyalty and increase in experience. So your employer does this. Because your employer (a baker making bread and cakes) needs to pay you more, he needs to increase the prices of the bread going to the shops. The shops, therefore need to increase the prices to keep their costs covered. At the same time, the grocer has also had to pay more to his people - for the same reason as you got a rise. Also, their wives/mums need more money from them, because the price of bread has gone up. You, in turn need more money a the price of groceries has gone up - all because YOU got a rise.

Yes, my thought is that they're reducing stock levels. So there's a good chance that they're not "B-stock" at all.

Vintage P bass picking up radio!
Grangur replied to chrisanthony1211's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've had this problem a couple of times, the cure has been to spin the output socket around slightly so that it doesn't touch the foil.
That's a good point; the contacts for the tip of the jack could be shorting to the cavity shield. -
Hmmm, it's a hour's drive for me.
For the benefit of the uninitiated; these are good fun. Regrettably I can't be at this one due to family commitments.

The metal plate on the back of the pups should be the earth side. If you find it's the yellow wire on the pup that is connected to the plate, then change round the wires. The "hot" wire on the pick-up is the one that goes to the windings, no matter the colour. Also, as said above, just check the capacitor has a nice space between that and the screening. Wherever I connect a jack socket, I would always use an earth wire. I also earth between pots. -
Nah, Fodera, Fender et al are just overpriced Squier clones. Me and a few other cogniscenti are sticking with the quality
Last night I saw a really good band at "Studio 5" at the National Palace of Culture, Sofia. They were good, the tone was great and went down well. Of the 4 guitars on stage, I doubt anything on stage other than the keys would sell for more than £100. Keep enjoying the bass.
the tree might be angled, but I bet the bottom of those strings at the tree are level hehe
I don't think so. It's more like it's simply screwed down to the point it simply does a job of improving the break-angle. Apologies to th OP, but we are looking at a budget mass production bass. It's not like there's any precision engineering about this. Mass production products are designed to give a finished product, shaving pennies off wherever possible. If I were the OP I would find some springs to fit on the screws, slacken the strings and tension the screws to make it level. If it really bothers, then buy a better made bass.
Without getting too personal, are we both racing on our own for this one, I heard on the sly your nickname is tripod...
Damn! Sussed!
Don't feel guilty about this for being white, instead concentrate on awful dancing and being slow sprinters. I am mixed race (Scots and Caribbean) as I used to love the guaranteed sports day win, until someone who was fully black joined my school. Only time I ever cursed one half of my heritage when I stopped winning.....
I'm 58 next month, so if you're setting me an objective, Do you mind if we make it a 3-legged race?
Became a bit 'black' for my liking - always revolving around opression and such. I've never judged funk (or people for that matter) on colour, but the program did and I feel sorry for whoever thinks it's a colour thing. Hope that's not too controversial but it's weird being white and being conditioned into thinking you like 'black music'. WTF?
But if the true origin of the genre, which I don't doubt, the BBC would be making a very shallow, program if they omitted that from the programme. That said, I've not seen this program but many things like this make me feel guilt for being white.

Ibanez ATK500 Pot Replacement advice...
Grangur replied to olliedf89's topic in Repairs and Technical
Can't seem to find decent email details for Ibanez, just their UK distributors... any more info on that? If anyone happens to know what I'd be looking for here, or even if they could recommend some alternatives for me, that'd be great too! Thanks!
When I was after a stacked pot for an old Ibby I some with the distributor and they ordered one for me. I took a couple of weeks or so, but they delivered an original component of the right value. I think mine was a 50k/50k. It wasn't cheap, but I guess the quality, in the small size costs. -
It looks to me like the string-tree is doing its job, at a technical level: Given that it's only there to make sure you have a break angle over the nut. From an aesthetic point, it's a bodge. I would expect the screws to have a spacer under them hiding the thread and ensuring the space is uniform. If it were mine I'd be on the look out for some kind of block or tube to fit in there.

As many will be aware there are some new Marcus Miller basses on the way. This could be Thomann reducing stock levels in readiness for the new ones, but they do seem to have a lot of these on sale as b-stock. https://m.thomann.de/gb/search.html?q=%2BMarcus+Miller+%2Bb-stock&ref=mrl_s
Wot - no Warwick, Hofner, Rickenbacker or Musicman 2 or 4 band? The F word appears with great (some might say monotonous, heaven forbid) regularity.......
If it really helps, I can strip out the electronics from a Warwick active Corvette, either 4 or 5?

So not so far from you atm. If you're going to drop the price, it would be worth you putting this in the first post. Otherwise people may not scroll down to see the later posts. GLWTS. It's a nice bass. Not my style though.

Adam, congrats on what I hope I'm right in thinking, is possibly one of your earlier compositions? I'm only able to listen on a mobile phone, so not the best sound. I'm also not a lover of "dirt". I'm also not as knowledgeable as many others here. (Maybe I should keep quie?) To be very honest, it has potential. The bassline groove does get a bit repetitive. Unless I'm mistaken it seems to stay in the same chord throughout. To my ears it would be better if you can change this and and the other parts, to follow a 251 sequence or something and follow a sequence such as 12 bar, or similar? Keep up the good work though. It's good to hear your work. Thanks.
