Have to say I'm guilty of selling on at a profit. That said most times it's been basses bought and sold on Gumtree or Ebay. Generally it starts off with me seeing what seems to be a bargain and I've seen buying as a good way to increase my experience of another bass. Many times I fix them up and have made a modest profit. One sale was especially embarrassing though. Mrs G and I drove 150 mile round trip to see/buy a bass advertised on BC. When playing the bass I wasn't sure, but being green and lacking in confidence I still bought it. A few days later I was certain it wasn't for me. The sound wasn't up my street. So, not wanting the good guy on BC to be aware that I was selling, as I was a bit embarrassed, I put it on ebay in an auction. The BC member saw it and contacted me. I was honest and told him the situation. The bottom line is I made a handsome profit that paid for the petrol and a little more. On seeing the profit the lovely BC guy contacted me with congratulations on the way it went. He was really need good about it. On the other hand, I've also been known to drive 150 miles round trip to a BC member to try a bass. I really wanted to like the bass but found it not for me. I declined to buy. On getting back home I got a PM from the seller. The PM said something like, "dealing with most people on BC is a real pleasure. Most people a a good bunch. You are the exception. I hope to never deal with you again." Incidentally, one bass I didn't buy from him was one he asked, at the time, £700 for. I since have reason to believe he actually sold it for about £450. I was always polite through the meeting and can't see what I did wrong other than disappointed him in not buying. Seems like you can't win sometimes.

Well, I've been and done it now... Just pressed the trigger on a Marcus Miller 5 https://m.thomann.de/gb/marcus_miller_v7_swamp_ash_5_nt.htm?ref=msg_a_2 Thhe Overwater can wait until I'm more certain that it's what I want. Assuming I can't get one used and Dave's isn't coming my way anytime soon, £3k is too much in my world to pay out and find it's in the Marketplace in no time at a great loss. So the Sire will do me as a starter. I also ordered some Shaller Lightweight tuners to make it look smoother. Thanks all for your imput. It makes interesting reading.
My Overwater 6er fretless has the additional markers between G & C strings from 12th fret up and it seems like a great idea but when playing i find you can't actually see those markers unless you tilt the bass upwards a bit which isn't practical playing live. I'm no expert on fretless and this bass was me getting back into playing in bands again after 20yr gap and i wanted to tax myself a bit. It was also a 50th pressie from my wife so wanted something quite special. I've had lined and unlined fretless basses over the years but never really found the lined version (WAL bass) really helped that much. If you only have one bass and its a fretless and you play it often enough you get used to getting it right very quickly. I've used them in rock, prog and jazz-rock bands over the years. Some like it some don't. If you feel "safer" with lines then go for it. Have to say i do like the Ibanez idea of 1cm lined on edge of the neck. Dave
Dear Dave, I've been GASsing for a fretless Overwater 5 or maybe 6 fretless. And you have a truly beautiful bass I'd love to try. I don't suppose you fancy moving slightly closer to the M25 sort of area do you?
What on earth have looks got to do with anything? It's all surely about being able to play accurately in tune. What have Jaco, Gary Willis, Steve Lawson got in common?
Looks: Have you seen the other threads where folk argue over the merits of "Candy Apple Red" or "Lake Placid Blue"? (They then pooh-pooh the effect if tonewood, but that's another can of worms) Jaco, Willis and Lawson? Phuur! What do they know? We're MEN here! We're tough. We know what we're doing!

A friend of mine is a pro sprayer. He quoted me £100 as a mate's rates price. Having now sprayed a few with rattle cans. I'm coming to the conclusion that £100 would actually be an amazing price for a pro job. £200 from a pro I don't know would be really pretty fair.
True, but unlikely in my opinion. 3 sales in 3 weeks. OP to original buyer to second buyer to trade-in/shop. Possibly, but given how much less you get for a trade-in why not at least try selling it privately on Basschat first. Probably not.
My experience of this sort was I bought a bass on ebay for £400. I traded it in at the gallery, 3-4 weeks later for £400 and they advertised it on their site at £1000. Did I feel I did anything wrong? No. Did the Gallery do anything wrong? No. It's their business. It's how they live. After all, I got the bass I wanted. I didn't frequent BC back then, but if I did, I could have advertised it here I guess. But it could have taken weeks to sell and I could've lost out on being able to buy the bass I wanted. I really don't see your problem. Sorry you weren't able to be at the right place at the right time to get that bass, but that's how the world works.
I play unlined and am pretty much ok in the lower register, but I sometimes struggle higher up, especially in a loud band. Can I opt for unlined up to the octave....
I have to say, my intonation does get a bit suspect above the 9th. Also, please don't mistake me for one of Scott's cheerleaders in the academy. Some of the hero worship there is enough to make you.... well, you know.

I've got a fretless. It's got an unlined neck. The side markers are on the fret-lines. I'm happy with this. Then I saw Scott Device and his "3 Killer points for playing fretless". "Always start using a lined neck" says Scott. Well, Scott learned with Gary Willis. Both of them always play lined necks. So, never mind learning, neither of these guys favour a naked neck. On the other hand, I like Tony Franklin's playing. He talks about the freedom of fretless. He favours the clear line-free neck. I'm thinking of getting a 5 string fretless. I like the Marcus Miller (I think). It has a lined neck. What do you guys here like? Why? If you start with lines do you transition to a clean neck? Thoughts... ?

Please excuse me if I'm wrong; but aren't most basses made with the strings slightly off-set towards the G string side? I, perhaps neively, thought it more likely that you will bend a string by pushing up, than you will buy pulling down. So the off-set allows you to do this. I'm often wrong. So I probably am right now.
If you want to find a great UK made 210 I'd read some reviews of the Barefaced Two10. I haven't played one yet but my One10 is an eye opener and the reports of the Two10 seems to indicate another equally game changing cab.
I too use a One10. It handles the B easily. No reason to doubt the Two10 would do just as well

Which Strings To Replace The Stock Ones On My Harley PJ-4?
Grangur replied to mark76's topic in Accessories and Misc
Buy from Stringsdirect.co.uk. Then buy what you want for less. Other sites are available. The actual type, brand etc., is down to what sound you're after. A better question could be, "I've got a Harley jazz and want a bright, metal tone, what strings would you go for?" Good luck in choosing. -
Beware of bank charges when transferring to European accounts. I know my company used to pay £25 in charges to Poland
Down the centre to anchor the string, then enough spare for 2 / 3 winds Job done
Same here. I've never put it through the slot and never had any problems.

Hey Niboby, welcome to the world of Warwick bass owners. They're great basses. Each have different characters in the tone. I've never played a Vamp though. Mind you, the pics don't seem to be showing on my mobile either. Enjoy the bass!

Hey Dave, Welcome to Basschat, from sunny Sofia, Bugaria. I'm from Hertfordshire. Cheers Richard

On large tuning heads this makes sense. Thanks for posting. This could, however, be the reason why you sometimes see old basses with small gauge tuners with one side of the capstan broken off. So, I'd use this with caution.
