1.
I live in athens. The problem always is the money. I can't spend much of them. I always prefer the j pickups. The westone is from a project. I have it, convert it to fretless. As a fretless bass I think that is better to have a j pup on it.This is my first fretless so i'm not sure for this.
This is a good video. It's promoting a Sony software library, but Tony Franklin's playing is cool - and it's a PJ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxZukx-Drw0 Here's a fretless P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTpU56pv2wk and another http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY3CGzSLuuI
2. As I understand it, they're 35" with a 0 fret?
3. Thunders fetch a nice price these days. Are you sure you want to do this? I don't know where in Greece you live, so we don't know how easily you can get to try others basses. Have you actually played a pj? I have had a few PJs and can tell you that 75%,or more, of the sound comes from the P pickup. To be honest the j doesn't actually do a massive amount. If I were you I wouldn't do it. But if you do, good luck. I hope it gives you what you are looking for.
4.
Very nice. The grain is superb. Just a quick word to anyone using Danish Oil or similar. The rags can spontaniously combust when scrunched up(I know a decorator it happened to).Best bet is to burn the rags the moment you have finished with them.
.. or wet them in water and leave them out to dry naturally. Lovely refin BTW Alex. Do you still have it? It looks great.
5. Nice looking instrument anyway. Shame I'm still struggling with IV! GLWTS
6. Late 1990's Danelectro DC bass guitar in silver sparkle. This is the long scale version that was made in Korea. It is completely stock, low action, frets in good shape, all electronics work. Neck has aged to a nice amber colour. The bass is crafted from the usual Danelectro Masonite with a C shaped Maple neck, and features two high impedance, high output lipstick pickups for the ultimate round tone. This bass has all original parts and is in full-working order. It has been recently refurbished and is in good condition. There is a small amount of wear on the frets, but is still very playable. The bass has a deep tone, not dissimilar to a double bass at times. A 1990's Classic Danelectro Bass Guitars sprung to popularity thanks to John Entwhistle from The Who, who is known to play their Danelectro Longhorn Bass. With the reissue of the 59DC you can again achieve that classic sound that sits perfectly in any mix. Equipped with two high impedance, high output Lipstick pickups, which delivers a very round bass tone and retain the original look. Lipstick Pickups The lipstick-tube pickup was first introduced by Danelectro on their line of electric guitars. The original lipstick-tube pickups were, in fact, manufactured using surplus lipstick tubes that were bought from a cosmetics manufacturer , and featured on many original Danelectro guitars and basses. These surplus lipstick tubes, had the electronics inserted within and therefore made it the lowest cost guitar pickup in the industry at the time. The current production pickups are not made using surplus lipstick tubes, but rather using tubes machined especially to match their original design. 7. There would be SO many musicians we have been enjoying over the years who would never have started, if it weren't for Chuck. Thank God for Chuck Berry. RIP He was the best
8. If I were you I'd buy a £100 used bass, such as a Westfield B1000 and take that apart to pack it. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/westfield-b1000-p-bass-guitar/1222049405
9. I read an article in an old Bass Guitar magazine. They were asking questions of 10 top luthiers. When asked about through stringing they all said it makes no difference to the sound. What matters is a good bridge, nut and break angle. So non through stringing is good with me. Hope the OP gets his bass back.
10. Nice bass. Where are you based? Also, do you know the weight, please?
11. Why would you want a 2 string bass? It's far better to have 4, so you can have 2 Es and 2 As in case you break a string.
12. If you have any simple dents, its worth sweating them out, if you can: Damp the bare wood with a cloth and use the tip of an old clothes iron, or soldering iron on the wet cloth to steam the dents out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsJvrosibuE
13. I don't actually use the [s]contour[/s] any knobs at all on any head - [s]Leszek[/s] folk keep[s]s[/s] telling me I should, but it sounds great flat to me so I never bother. I should maybe try it one day :-)
14.
Although my parents are both (just) still around, this resonates..except even when presented with evidence of some success, such "rubbish" was dismissed out of hand. Still is.
I know what you mean. The lack of any kind of reaction, let alone approval, hurts. My old Mum was getting to the last few months of her life, not that she knew it. I sat down with the bass one day and played some simple tunes - like finger picking on a guitar, except this was on the bass. After all, that's what I do on a bass. She talked all the way through. She was that bothered she didn't even appear to listen. It would have meant a lot to hear her say something like, "that's nice".
15.
Ah, but this is an "old after market pickguard".
You mean this should read, "something I found in my old -bits box" .
16. That looks to me like Ford Fiesta Blue. I should know, I've painted a couple that colour. The neck is SO original id doesn't have a serial number. Is that correct for the era? Didn't Fenders of the period also have chamfered edges on the pickguard? This one may be "old" but not authentic. I think the word that's missing here in the listing is "bitsa" To respond to the OP. I think it looks quite good. I like the colour etc. My only gripe is the claim to authenticity and the price for a bitsa
17. As it says above. Ive got box and bubblewrap. PM me if you're interested and in the south half of the country. I travel a lot and can drop it in
18.
Danelectro Hodad Bass. Amazing wee thing. Light as a feather (no, I haven't weighed it) and sounds gorgeous. If I had any excuse at all to keep this thing I would, but I can't justify keeping more than one bass. £250
Excuse me, do you have the right forum?!
19.
I got a cracker Idea today, I will be putting in 2 spent bullet cartridges that will really enhance the character....
Is your bass-playing THAT bad!?!!?
20. I find pictures like the one above so distracting with 1 question: "Are those basses standing on concrete and getting scratched?" All looking nice though btw, as long as they're protected... but that's probably just me.
21.
Pity I didn't see that idea sooner, some sparklers to give me a diamond finish...
The beauty of having an oil finish is you can easily repair an oil finish by sweating out dings and sanding rough patches and re-oiling. So if you want to do the gems you can. IMHO the appearance of the lead shot marks is fine. It looks like recycled wood. That's fine with me. Wishbass make a living using recycled wood.
22. I've got a Roland Cube 30. What I prefer to use in the lounge at home is a Mark Bass LM3 and a Barefaced One10. Admittedly the budget is a bit higher. But the One10 will also equip you for gigging too.
23. Looks good to me. Looking forward to seeing your handiwork. Don't worry about painting over oil. IF you ever want to do that, simply wash it over with white spirit, rub it down to make smooth and paint. I've done it a few times with oak furniture.
24. So it comes with a "guitar belt"? As even my old grannie would have known that that is called a strap. It beats me how folk who find valuable instruments in the loft can be so lacking in rudimentary knowledge. Besides, when did anyone here ever move house and leave a bass in the loft? That must be pretty unusual.
25. Is this one of the cases with the really thick padding and the pocket up by the headstock?
