1. If you were to take the bass back to the Luther, i imagine the response could be different depending on the number of people employed. A one man band guy could be defensive. A larger workshop may be horrified, but recognise the handwork of a past employee. If I were you I'd take it back and be open about the length of time and how you tried to put up with it. Then ask what they'd be prepared to do. They might not give you a completely free refret but a discounted rate would be something.
2. Thanks all for the information. It's been interesting to hear more about it. I'm quite surprised that there are none of you who are pros.
3. I've got a hue pile of bubblewrap. The use I have for it is wrapping basses I sell, but you may have other uses in mind. Whatever that may be, I don't have to ask. It's a free world and this stuff is available free of charge to anyone. Just tell come and collect, or I might be be able to drop some in to you on my travels. I've got enough cardboard to pack 2 basses and enough bubblewrap to... er... well, loads of it. All the best and have a nice day Oh, er, yes. For those on a mobile. I'm in East Herts. But I travel a fair bit in the south half of the country.
4. Hi there VPR, welcome to Basschat
5.
I rate the pick up in that bass along side the Aguilar, Fender and Xotic pick ups in the other basses that I own, buying the Squire with a view to changing the PU - I haven't needed to. We're all different though, I'd be interested in how you get on.
If you're playing in a band situation you're probably dead on the money. I play on my own, so I listen intently to my own sound, so I become a fussy bu$$er.
6.
Not sure they are 5 string pups, though?
To quote the web site:
The P-46 humbucker offers Bill's multi-pole piece system which can accomodate either 4, 5 or 6 string Precision Bass instruments. It is standard with four conductor wires for multi-sound wiring options and comes with mounting screws.
7. If you don't want to make drastic changes and want to keep the split coil pup I'd recommend Bill Lawrence P46s. I found out about these when I bought a Fender MIM P bass. Quite frankly it's the best sounding P bass I've had. I wouldn't go back to Fender pups after this. http://www.wildepick...ss_Pickups.html or you might be able to pick some up here: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry3203653 If you don't buy it I might buy it to have it as a spare.
8.
Two rules to live by Never use PayPal Gift Always ship insured to full value You can't go wrong with the above but people still ignore them.
Isn't this more a matter of never pay by PayPal Gift unless you really trust the person you're sending it to? This is because you're doing the equivalent of sending cash.
9. Don't think he can claim back a Paypal Gift can he? I don't like the under-declaring the value though. That way there would be no insurance. If you're talking about your Status Grafite, that's serious money to a person on Thai wages. Smells funny.
10. I've painted a few basses with Halfords car paint. The secret is in the preparation: Loads of sanding, filling , sanding, a good finish in primer and only when it looks amazingly perfect should you go for the top coat. Then lacquer. Or buy a half decent one and don't have the hassle.
11. Thomann would sell you a perfect one for £1855. https://www.thomann.de/gb/spector_euro_5_lx_fmt_bcb.htm?glp=1&gclid=CL33ydbL6tECFYKw7QoddMEPIg Gear4Music would be selling a genuine one. But it's not necessarily a genuine bargain.
12. Thanks guys. It's good to get to learn more about you all.
13. I never saw this either. It's amazing how much time I can spend here and STILL miss things.
14. Something I've long thought about in these here competitions is I'd like to know more about these guys who enter. What gear do you all use? Do you use a pro studio at work, or is it done at home on a studio held together with string and chewing-gum? How long do you spend on it? What's the creative process and how do you put it together? How can somebody do this on a shoe-string budget? And.. how long have you been doing this kind of thing? Just wonderin'
15.
10 entries and only 14 folk have voted (so far). Doesn't seem to be capturing the imagination of Basschat at large, does it? It looks like only the entrants have voted and one or two of their acquaintances.
Sir!! I've never been acquainted with any of these folk in my life!! Good luck to them all.
16. Bargain price for a German made Warwick of this type.
17.
Why, what will anyone gain?
The winner gets the prestige and honour of being this month's winner and they get to select the picture to inspire the entries for next month. Impressive huh?
18.
ok I've found the 3 to vote for, I don't hate them, it just stuff that doesn't interest me, having said that, I'm not keen on open myself up for public ridicule, so fair play to them
Many thanks. Not that I enter it. I don't have the talent. But it would be a sad day when, on a bass forum, we can't have folk who create and post links to music of some kind. Maybe you could enter with something that is to your taste?
19. you could find a good way forward is a PM to Manton Customs. He'd give you an honest answer that's useful The thing you also need to remember is you've found they go for £1500 used. But that price is good for one with no visible signs that the nack has come to grief. If the cracks still show, then the price will drop by something.
20. If the neck was a standard Fender length I'm sure that would be gone in no time. 2 octave necks aren't so easy to get (as I'm sure you know) Generally I find stuff being sold by that seller aren't such great value for money. When I've looked into pricing their damaged goods I've always found that if you add the cost of the repair to the buy price, you may as we buy a good one. Good luck to you if you go for it.
21. If you really care about this bass community and the good and talented to be recognised amongst our peers, please take a few minutes of your valuable time to listen to some cool music and give praise where it's due in a democratic vote: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/299225-january-composition-challenge-voting-ends-tuesday/page__pid__3226665#entry3226665 There are some cool tunes here and it's only right the guys get some support... please!
22. All good advice regarding wood and play glue, but matchsticks are soft wood. Cocktail sticks are made of harder wood and will give you a longer term solution.
23. ... and not even a gold watch as a leaving present?! Maybe this would be more suitable:
24. In a review it's important to have the info on all the key features. But when it comes to the tone I guess it's good to hear the general character of the sound. In the PRS reviews we hear the bass has a good clear tone. We can assume it goes from a good bite one end to a deep thud. I only watched the first. I didn't see him slap or use a pick, but the tone we got showed plenty of snap to the sound, so the pick or slap players will know it does that ok. It can be frustrating to have to listen through 3 minutes of slap and 3 minutes of pick before we get 2 minutes of fingerstyle as the credits start to roll. Lets face it, all you need is a single run down of the G and Cmaj scale and you've got the gist of what it sounds like. Edit: Listened to all the vids. I'm loving the tone, but is it the bass or the Aguilar gear?
