  1. Hi kumimajava, Welcome to Basschat. I'm sure you'll progress well in bass. There are loads of great online resources to help you learn. Basschat also is blessed with many really good helpful folk too. Good luck with your practice.
  2. Like any pickup their VFM depends on your opinion of the tone of the sound you get out of them. IMHO they're fair value for money. I've had cheaper pups that in my opinion are as good. I've got some in my MIM that I think are better, but they do cost more. You pays your money and takes your choice.
  3. [quote name='Rick's Fine '52' timestamp='1483978978' post='3211635'] So, having spent 2 hours trying to get a pic on here from photobucket, I gave up. Set up an imgur account as above, got the BBcode, where do I paste it on here though? Tried the usual icons but no good. Thanks in advance [/quote] Don't use the BB code. Use the "Direct Link" one
  4. [quote name='mcnach' timestamp='1483972083' post='3211541'] The thing is... the ferrules were too narrow for the string ends, which didn't fit inside the recess, so you'd have the string ends protruding at the back So I never used the string-through method. [/quote] Well, it looked good.
  5. [quote name='Dan_Q' timestamp='1483897083' post='3210950'] Cheers for the info guys, the pickup doesn't have adjustable pole pieces. Does anyone know if a squier or fender neck would fit? I'm not at all familiar with bass parts-castering! 🤔 Could be an option to consider. [/quote] Try measuring the width of the pocket. Maybe some has, or knows of a neck that would fit.
  6. [quote name='chrisanthony1211' timestamp='1483885138' post='3210820'] As you can see on the photos, some bloke called Charlie has written his name on the neck heel where there is a R.R stamp, my understanding is that this is again in connection with it going back to Fender for the sonic blue custom colour. [/quote] Oh well! That must drastically reduce the value. I'll give you £300 for it. IMHO that all adds to the richness of its history. GLWTS.
  7. I think you should introduce the good Madame Flat to some of the threads on here where some folk shoe their massive collections. That said, you can't be sure that'll help. Good luck, whatever happens.
  8. [quote name='chrisanthony1211' timestamp='1483876413' post='3210733'] Yep, adverts galore slowing everything down.... [/quote] Nice bass. I'm thinking of dropping Photobucket for that reason.
  9. [quote name='bassmanklm' timestamp='1483866640' post='3210646'] The bass is sold ! [/quote] Could you please change the thread title to say this?
  10. [quote name='Skinnyman' timestamp='1483866882' post='3210650'] PM sent. If this goes ahead, I may ask for your help to get it north of London, Grangur.... [/quote] That's fine with me.
  11. [quote name='MoonBassAlpha' timestamp='1483837418' post='3210588'] Before ditching it, check that isn't a DiMarzio pickup in it. They're worth a few Bob, and sound pretty good! [/quote] I had an Encore of this vintage. I don't think the pups are DiMarzio. Don't DiMarzio have adjustment to the pole pieces? They're not bad sounding pups, regrettably the sale value probably isn't a lot though.
  12. As you enjoyed it so much here is some more of the review translated into English [quote name='Google translate' timestamp='1483836869' post='3210581'] The quality of some components (fingerboard, seatpins, mechanics) is not good. There is no strap on the upper belt pin. The tuners are cheap, do not run round and the bass is not so good to vote. The fingerboard is not cleanly ground and the binding is noticeable - not dangerous, but disturbing. The single bridges of the bridge were not properly bolted, with 3 of 5 there was a gap of 2mm to the ceiling. This is not a good quality assurance. [/quote]
  13. [quote name='DarkHeart' timestamp='1483836810' post='3210580'] Yeah!! someone had to buy one.............im stupid!! [/quote] No, just enthusiastic. You can return it. Only today I was reading about someone else getting a Tokai jazz. Then I saw you can get one on ebay for 175. I'm now fighting off the Gas to get one. I don't need that either.
  14. John Liebman's Blues Bass the complete method
  15. [quote name='ras52' timestamp='1483021025' post='3204174'] Thanks guys. I'm now using bass and tenor clefs only - the highest note is E# on four leger lines in the tenor clef - my preferred maximum is three leger lines but in this case I prefer not to flip into treble clef for just a few notes. [/quote] Some instruments such as viola use tenor as their main clef. Good luck
  16. Well, thankfully we still have the European Distance Selling Regulations. It's just as well we didn't vote to leave the European Union.
  17. Here's the translated sumary of the German review: It is clear to me that I ordered an entry-level instrument from mass production at the price, and with a bit of time, most of the defects can be easily remedied. However, since a change of the mechanics and a reworking of the Bundung with an instrument of this class is not worthwhile, I have decided to return it.
  18. I know it's not the same bass, but basstheworld did a review of a 5 string HB: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znp8bWQjGSg
  19. These are both really great work, Ian. It's good to see the beauty of wood in its original colour too.
  20. [quote name='Romeo2' timestamp='1483821851' post='3210458'] Are there any obvious giveaways when you buy a pack of fake ones? Has anyone had the pleasure, how do you tell? The box in the photos looks legit. [/quote] I can lend you a legit box, if you want a legit box to take pictures of. Who says you'll get the box shown in the pics?
  21. [quote name='MoonBassAlpha' timestamp='1483795403' post='3210167'] Am I the only one on here who thinks it would be a real shame to cover all that nice wood up? Especially the nice neck through and cover detail on the back [/quote] No, I think covering any of the wood grain is crazy. I don't get this need some (most?) folk have to paint over wood grain. I don't get the excitement most seem to get over the look of paint.
  22. [quote name='owen' timestamp='1483824667' post='3210485'] Ugh! This would mean remembering who I bought it from on here. Just as well I never clear out my PM box! [/quote] And you're assuming they have the documents related to their buying it from the USA, assuming they were the original owner/importer.
  23. It won't be the first time we've seen fake Elixirs on Ebay. IIRW Ebay don't mind as long as they pay the commission on the sale.
