Very sad. One of the first gigs I ever went to was Status Quo's London farewell show at Selhurst Park in 1984...saw them on the next tour too
I was at that gig too. Very memorable. Wish I'd seen them again.
Thanks for the sound clips Richard. Still very tempted. I love the slim neck on my SR470. I'm torn between this and going completely in the opposite direction and getting a P-bass.
Now, now, don't be silly. You know nothing good will come from drifting off into other directions.

Vintage 70's Fender P bass... Oh no it isn't!
Grangur replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Of the headstock we get to see "Fender" and "bass". I wonder why there's no clear shot of the whole headstock? Misspelling perhaps? -

In the right hands it has the makings of being a nice bass. I could do wonders with it. It's got some nice wood in both the body and neck. I'd enjoy doing wonders with it. Yet, as a non-gigging bass player (is this claim too much for my ability?), I don't have space for it. If anyone wants it and wants the work done... my door is open.
I saw him 5yrs ago and he was finally starting to look his age. I think he is criminally underrated by both bass players and his ex-band. The last thread on him was just teasing him (about 6 years back) and he's a very solid, understated player who can be very tasteful when allowed.
Yes, when you listen to the bass in the oldest Stones recordings yu can hear hos lines were very inovative for the era.

NBD: Warwick Corvette 5 string: Refin in progress
Grangur replied to Grangur's topic in Repairs and Technical
Many thanks to all for your kind words. I'm really pleased Painy likes it and approves.
Very nicely done - bet you're glad now that you had the nerve to carry out a full refret. I like the signs of ageing in the body wood too, very characterful.
Yes, I've done refret work before, just never had to contend with tangs not showing. I've also never gone this far on a higher end bass. Most have been on low cost basses and "cheep jobs" to help out other friends. Doing this has really been rewarding. -
NBD: Warwick Corvette 5 string: Refin in progress
Grangur replied to Grangur's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks guys. Well this weekend included just a little sanding, cutting and filing and now we have a fully refretted Warwick Corvette 5 The fretting was interesting. I avoided cutting through the sides, but cutting and filing the tang on each end of the frets. So the fret wire goes to the sides, but the tang doesn't cut through the wood "binding". It all set up and plays really well. So, it's a great result. I'm happy. I think this is now probably the No.1 bass at Grangur Towers. -
So I guess what you have now is a P-bass with big coils. Nice one!

Have chat with Kiogon. He's a helpful guy, He'll tell you what to do. When you go in, series and knock out a volume there may be other changes you need in the harness. I'm sure there will be changes you need. If you're not into wiring, maybe he should make you a new harness?
Do i need to splice and solder the 2 wires together, or can i just wrap them together in tape or heat shrink?
Now't wrong with twisting and tape, or a terminal block. Anything is good as long as there's a good electrical connection.

Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 This is a DAW I bought to get me out of trouble when I couldn't find my other Focusrite Scarlet 2i2. Yes they're THAT good I bought it twice. I'm also THAT organised that I needed to buy it twice! This one is in good, working condition and comes with the USB lead only. I don't have the box or CD, but the CD only has a trial version of some software on it. So it's nothing you can't download off the Net anyway. I'm really happy with mine. I simply don't need 2 of them. Located in East Herts but I'll post it to you for £75 Here's the link for the full blurb: http://uk.focusrite....es/scarlett-2i2 Thanks for looking

Isn't a lot of the "dirt" on the tone, the mwaahh from the fretless bass? Other than that isnt' is a fairly clean bass/mids tone? http://youtu.be/xkS_R7RDuMc?t=74

Sold - Warwick Rockbass Streamer 5 String - £200 Delivered
Grangur replied to NickD's topic in Basses For Sale
Bumpage! Would also consider trades for lighter weight amplification stuff. As much as I love my old faithful 1 x 15 Trace Combo, getting down the stairs from the flat is a manual handling hazard waiting to happen, and I could probably pull together a few hundred quid to move towards a more portable option that would give me similar volume and bottom end.
If you don't mind my saying so, Sir... You should put this paragraph in the first post. There's more chance then that folk will see it. -
Seeing all 3 replies are the same. It's a shame we all didn't know someone else was answering.

You mean in series with just one volume and tone with both pups connected 100% of the time? If so, then simply connect the neck pup "earth" to the bridge pup "hot" and then wire it as you would wire a Precision.

Another silly question: There's a buzz when the fret at the 9th on the D string. But it doesn't buzz when you fret the G or the A on the 9th? What's buzzing? Is it the string on the fingerboard, or is something else buzzing? I ask this because I had a bass that buzzed when I played a note on the A string. What was buzzing, as it turned out was a loose top on the G string tuning head. It's worth sitting quietly and play the D 9th and move your ears all over the bass and listen for the location of the buzz.

What's the problem with the neck?
