I actually built one, using one of JC's pcb kits. It's a hard build, definitely not for beginners!
As far as sound, I can't comment on whether it sounds like an original or not as I've not played through an Acoustic 360. From the comments I've read, it nails the 360 very close. To my ears, it has a great vintage tone which is also very adjustable. It's quiet and can drive a power amp. The fuzz is pretty cool (and nasty) and the nice thing about JC's design is a clean blend is included (which the original did not have). It has plenty of clean headroom as well, and the circuit has the option for an active/passive switch.
Overall, very nice preamp. I'll probably end up selling mine as I'm into a different vibe as far as tone (more dirt).
Hope that helps!

As it says in the topic title - I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's tried (or at least heard) one of these in the flesh...

I'm interested as I'm increasingly going towards a more vintage sound, and love the Acoustic360 - but but can't forsee having the cash or space for an original...[/quote]
