Which Super Mellow bass Strings NOT Flatwound?
The Burpster replied to jazzbassmm's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've used 45-100 on my PRS and on a Yamaha before that. Direct swap for 45-100 chromes but with a light t-rod tweak. Not sure you really need to go down to 40-95..... what was your thinking behind that? 45-100s are easy to play and wont require such big tweaks to set up bliss. -
Of course you can put a Bad ass on another bass. You may have to plug the original holes and redrill new ones but its no different that fitting any other after market bridge. The beauty of the badass is that is a direct replacement for the POS std bridge on most Fenders so you dont have to work out scale length and hole placing etc.

No probs... Good stuff developing..... Quick thought, ..! Might it be because W keep the same models runnig for quite some time untill there is a lot of them around? hence the price will naturally have to drop as demand does? Dont get me wrong I like the idea of makers making a product that you can trust and depend upon, however you make too many and there is no-one left to buy them new? Waddya reckon?

does an one know where i can get this bass in UK?
The Burpster replied to Ghosts Over Japan's topic in Bass Guitars
Cai, I can see why its VERY nice isnt it..... you must do a review when you get it... That could well be my 1st foray into 5 string as 5 string PRSs are still the cost of a samll penthouse flat in Yorkshire! B. -
Interesting topic, wrong place... moving....

Fook me we could all turn it up to 11 in that and no one would ever know! Just wish I had 3/4M to hand- what a blast!

^^^ there you go, alcohol not oil!

This doesnt take into account that some necks, wont intonate properly or have flat spots. Fotunately I have not had one but they must be frustrating as hell to own. With enough time and effort most intsruments could be made to play acceptibly, however how much time and effort is necassary must be taken into the equation..... eg where does modding or tweaking end and re building start? B.

Where can I get? a 70s (75?) RI CIJ jazz
The Burpster replied to john_the_bass's topic in Bass Guitars
You may get more response if you titled the thread "Where can I get a 70s (75?) RI CIJ jazz?"
Good idea, done for him! -
Does that have the bowl back? They are an acquired taste - certainly not a style to buy without trying as I found they hang in a strange way when playing standing up. Or maybe it's a side effect of my slightly "Traditionally Built" physique
It does, Yes they are, Yep it probably is, but I suffer the same (less than svelt) physique, and its about the same as a std shape accoustic IMO. I only sold mine, beacuse one day I will have the ass kickin B778 model (Nikki Sixx edition is based on this one) which is awesome, but 5 times the cost. My mates Adamas 6 string (carbon top) is one of the sweetest sounding guitars I have ever heard, and gives me goose bumps whenever he plays it......

'Custom Shop', 'Limited Edition', 'Anniversary' blah blah blah
The Burpster replied to Beedster's topic in Bass Guitars
Fenders are like Land Rover, Porsche cars- BMW and Harley D bikes..... They have what was a ground breaking design, for which they have built a huge client D-base that want that product. If they change too much they then start competing with other players in the market and Fender (like the others above) have been left behind if they try to do that. They have a great product based on tradition, a tradition that has by definition become an industry standard by which all others are judged. All the above products do the same things.... have Ltd Editions, special runs blah, blah, for those that want something different or can afford to collect them. Are we being ripped off? Only if we dont see it for what it is...... marketing. I have a Fender CS bass, is it better than my production PRSs? Sadly no ( and by a long margin too!), but it will appreciate in value because it is a desirable instrument. Sorry about the rant but I've been away for 2 weeks and I'm more chilled than a very cold ice cube! -
D'addario are offering a 'custom set' service if you find a dealer that knows about it. Effectively they will put togther the set you want provding its in a current production range.....

Biting the bullet on a BC Rich Custom Shop, Finish ideas?
The Burpster replied to Shockwave's topic in Bass Guitars
How about the figured Maple top with a trans black wash..... Very classy! Pep it up with white or flou. mint colored binding..... Classy and 'in yer face' (oh and it'd match a TE amp!) 'Dimebag' eat your heart out! -
Im pretty sure its not an oil based additive in teh fast fret sticks.... I use them too. My guess is that is an alcohol based product with a very small percentage of very light oil in it. Let us know how you gte on with 3in1.... My guess is that it wont be as good and stinks (the ladies wont love you at the end of a gig if you stink like a dip stick!). I'm going to try cleaning on one of my old ones on methanol and leavin some in it.

DS.... Cool idea with the heat sensitive stuff, I remember heat color change tee shirts in the 80s.. WTF happened to them I loved 'em! Anyhoo.... do you just have GAS? or can you not get new pups put in your custom jobbie? SD 1/4lbers should make your bands trousers flap nad if thats not enough ooomph.... get some custom made by our pet pup winders! If you have a connection with the old girl, just give her a pepping up that allows her to kick 'ass! IMHO of course!

the ebay links page is just for that.... ANYTHING to do with ebay! Bad or good..... Any P bass has thmubs up from me as I cant do skinny necks......
-
Ovation Celebrity sounds pretty good but isnt really big enough to be loud. Plugged in tho'...... its excellent!
-
great thread, excellent replies but wrong place....
-
If you can deal with the 'retro thang' Get yourself a Hohner B2a or B2b ...... Dead light, pretty good sound and a lovely neck! Just waaaay too skinny for me!

From experience, all Fenders are good guitars.... (sweeping statement alert!) Nearly all Jap Fenders (with exception maybe of the P bassLyte ) are very well made and play nicley. US fenders are made from lovely wood but seem to be 'thrown together' so with a little time and patience can be awesome. Mex Fenders are pretty good but fall into 3rd place behind the other 2 for those reasons alone. QC is pretty good in all 3 bases so you would struggle to buy cr4p. But....... As to your 'is it worth it?' question. ANY article is only what you are prepared to pay for it. You can find a relatively cheap bass that is wonderful (see my Ibanez on this forum for example) to play and look at. And on the other extreme you can spend a lot of money on what is for you a lemon. Its cost is no gaurentee of quality. May I suggest that you try a Highway One jazz and see what you reckon? They should be easy to find a shop that has one or can get one for you to try. 2nd hand is obvioulsy the way to go, but if at all possible dont buy anything you havent tried, (unless you know exactly what it is !)
-
Chris, its easy to see why you are sceptical..... 3 'genuine 70's Fenders with no reserve? someone is going to make an absolute killing on these or they are hotter than a very hot thing in a microwave..... B.

With a bit of effort: get very close to the neck, breath on it and wipe the grunge off, with a soft clean cloth. Failing that a GOOD proprietry guitar cleaner, (PRS, Ernie ball etc) will get rid of the rest. Only use abrasives as a last resort. remember whatever you remove cannot be replaced easily!
