1. Sorry it took so long I was p155ing about with pups..... Schaller PBX....... very nice! Played last nite properly..... very warm, and assertive tone. MY guitarist loves it... and we look like twinnies....
2. Folks, can anyone remeber a track called "She's somethin else...." Has the line in. She's fine lookin' man, she's somethin else....... Has a strong rock and roll guitar riff..... I'll be jiggered if I can find who recorded it first.... Better still anyone got it on MP3 ???? B.
3. The originals had a problem with dodgy truss rods apparently........ twang!........ If you can find a good one......they rock! B.
4. Fender or Warwick sized neck? I feel you need to be a bit more specific here..... Is it nut width, depth of the neck, Radius /profile of the back, radius of the fingerboard???? or a combination......????? In theory all you need is a neck of the same scale length, and same number of frets, and then get the socket and neck dimensions to match. Any difference in pitch can be shimmed...... Does that help?
5.
black, sorry I think too much gold looks tacky
I'm not sure 'Boosty' would agree......!
6. Shure E2c 'bout that money..... But you get what you pay for..... dont expect brilliant bass response!
7. How about Gold with black stripes,, like teh white ones on teh Pedulla knobs..... Nah..... how abouut that then.....?
8. What a nice genuine bloke...... BIG thumbs up from me....
9. Im going the other way..... Gold would match the bridge, tuners, straplocks...... get yerself a gold jack-socket nut while you getting the bits and finish it off, pro like..... I'm not a huge fan of gold bits on gutiars ----but--- if its got 'em on make the most of 'em.... Bling it up dude!
10. ^^^ DOH! I'd not though of that! ^^^^^^
11. Welcome to the mad house! I started with a black RBX...... bless its cotton socks..... its now owned by a very nice young lady in Ireland! My advice as someone who only started 18months ago, is do a little bit VERY often to start.... 2 or 3 15-20 min sessions a day is much better than 1 1hr session. your fingers learn muscle memory much quicker..... Hal Leonard books are excellent and then find yourself a tutor to play with and bounce ideas off and explain things! 'play that sucker!'
12. interesting so far....... My original point was muted towards.... Are there any REALLY GOOD bass shops about? from the above it seems very few, and far between ? B.
13. the only way to get whites really white is...... dont get 'em mucky in't first place..! arrh dat fertilizer smell, wot we no so well eer in de country!
14. is there anyway it could have shorted across the terminals? Old sweety paper etc? They get REALLY hot if they discharge quickly.... (I've actually seen a Nickel Cadmium cell explode when put in dead short form full charge) If not it must be your electric personality........
15. Pete, Swapping pups is normally about getting a particular sound... (Thats why I do it anyhoo!) I have an idea how I want it to sound and get pups accordingly...... Funnily enough, I cannot pick any fault at all with the std PRS setup. They are just awesome with a HUGE variety of tone..... Maybe I'm trying to get lesser basses to sound like them? I have one spare SD 1/4lber that you can drop in if you want...? Just a thought why not just play the new Jazz for a while and see if its deficient in tone anywhere, and then target that with new pups?
16. MD, Theres some on Thomann worth a look....? P upgrade for 329
17.
Good point, I am actually thinking about getting a MIJ or MIM Jazz Bass (MIA is way out of my price range) how are the MIM and MIJ Jazz Basses , I have heard mixed opinions of them?
MD. They are both (Mex and Jap) very good instruments and, in no way be put off by them because they are not 'made in America' ... QC at both areas of production is as good (and if I dare put my head above the parapet) if not better than the US. I very nearly bought a MIM Frank Bello sig Pbass and I found it be excellently made. Jap Fenders are as good as other Jap makes, Yamaha, Ibanez etc so 'nuff said about that!!!!! You'll be fine going with MIJ or MIM as long as it fits you, the music you play and your wallet....
18. + another 1 for switch craft.... get some leads with Neutrik plugs on (OBBM can make these up or Award Session) and you will have a happy all tune, no pop or crackle time..... Donate your PLanet waves lead where it belongs..... another planet!
19. Warwickhunt is fitting a set of custom wound Wizard pups to his W as we speak and will do a review soon...... Custom wound pups maybe your answer!
20. No real shocks in the looks dept, dont be dissapinted if its not loud on the B or E string unamplified.... I had to plug mine in to keep up with a 'proper' acoustic 6 string..... Action..... whereas you can set up solids to 2.5mm at the 17th fret be happy with 3.5+ on an accoustic, and slightly more relief too....... The strings 'twang' (Larger oscillations) more to get the sound..... I'd still have another Ovation if indeed I do get another one!
21. ^^^ Could well be right..... Levinson blades look REALLY nice, as do a host of other copies.....
22. While we are riding the wave..... My P bass is a P+J ACTIVE Lace sensor model.... The onlly REALLY nice sound, is playing it passive with the P pup nearly fully on and the J on enough to act as humbucker...... So if that gives any you any insight I'm not sure but on hindsight I would have been happy with just a P pup Pbass but then playing with an upgrade pups.... (exactly what I'm doing with my Ibanez!)
23. I only have limited experience of P's but I might suggest you PM ' the beedster ' ? He is a certified Fenderhead and has probably done all you maybe thinking about doing. I believe at some point in history he has spanked most P+Js.... and has a sensible levelheaded perspective on trying playing and modding....
24. Chris, I have an SD 1/4lber sat here doing nowt if you wnat to try a A/B on an SOR basis.... Just a thought in case you start wondering..... "what if I had an SD?" Bob.
