Despite the cheap and irresitible shot..... Maybe US shops are the place to be looking....... You may find Peavey dealers so limiting, that if you want a US spec.... the US maybe teh only place to get it...! Start looking, its not that scary buying form there honest! B.

Humn HSC lock destruction.. I just did that too yesterday...... Let me know where your mate gets teh locks please I need two now....! BC looks 'Well 'ard!" nice one......! -

Do you have a drill? If you do if you carefully drill into the hole that the screw head now has in it and the drill is as large or larger than the shank of the screw, as soon as the drill bit gets to the shank the rest of the head will fall off. Grab whats left of the shankl with a pair of pliers and twist it out...... Enjoy....

To me it shows you dont necasarily need the latest gizmo louded gadget to create unbelieveable music...... If I could play it and 1% of Herbies abilty rubbed off onto me, I would be a 100% better bass player for it...... Herbie rocks.....! (knackered old bass or not!)

Maple versus rosewood with flats....?
The Burpster replied to Beedster's topic in Repairs and Technical
yep....! Maple/maple...... Yummy warm thwump. Resembling double bass on steroids. Maple/rosewood...... More yummy than a mouth full of warm pure unsweetened lemon juice, but closer to 1/2 round or knacked roundwound sound..Thwump with a slight zing, if that makes sense...? Both D'addario Chromes on PRS IV tuned to EADG...... So Maple for me.... (of course due to the individuality of wood it may be just the selected wood in these two necks, but the P bass, sounds very similar to the rosewood/ maple neckd PRS) Any help? -
Here's an awsome looking bit of kit

Mad as a (cardboard) box of frogs...! -
If its an old knacker for work, then as long as its got an aceptable action, and a neck profile that you're used to then does it matter what it is? If you start going down the 'is an Encore better than a Squier' comparison route..... before long you'l be hankerin' after a '54 P bass.... When you're buying real bottom end basses, any make or model could be an absolute keeper or a bag 'o 54ite..... (bit like buying a £200 car for a year, dont be fussy but just make sure it does what it should!) That'd be my advice...... Oh and welcome.......!
-
Sibob... This might sound like an obvious suggestion but make it I will..... Take your neck out and measure it at the socket end.... then email Allparts and ask them what the std jazz neck diemensions are for thir necks. They are usually quite accomodating and IIRC somewhere on thier site they have like a blueprint drawing of one of thier necks.
-
Oooh thats a proper bolt on neck, that is! Jeez its worse that Frankensteins Monster..... Its a bit like one of those 'chew yer arm off' moments..?
-
it COULD be genuine......... But I for one wont be bidding on it!
Thats a bit insulting to those who think wood does make a difference and particularly to those who are interested in exploring other alternatives to ash/maple. The way I see it, you can't rule out the influence of wood, any more than you can include the effect of all the other elements you've mentioned. As I stated before, its a balancing act and each part contributes to the overall whole. In any event I happen to own two basses that are, for all intents and purposes, identical apart from their neck material. Any bass player doing an A/B of these instruments would hear and feel for themselves that neck material has a substantial influence on the sound of an instrument. I think it's a no brainer.
I'm afraid I have to concur with CK on this one.... I as he, also have to all intents two guitars teh same. both have maple necks but one is maple fingerboard the other rosewood..... these two sound different with the same strings.... I'm afriad that I believe wood DOES make a difference.. You may believe different and you are entitled to that opinion and I respect that..... However there are those of us that do..... I guess we will just have to agree to differ..... Now where are those alien comics I most revise my invasion dates......
-
Hummmn its not confined to musical instruments either.... I know of several motor bikes that have been dealt with the same..... Is it ethical? I'm not sure, some will find annoying, others will finds it a great help as they need bits.....! Swings and roundabouts I'm sorry to say....

PRS IVs THREE of 'em (absolutely goergeous)
The Burpster replied to The Burpster's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Ped. (hope the back is OK) Not yet but I'll try to put some together at some time TBH the two of mine (3rd one on its way form US) sound quite a bit difernt. My SwampAsh Maple necked one is a lovely deep dark rich blues sound (actaully just what I wanted!) with flats one and teh Maple bodied, maple/rosewood necked one is considerably brigther even with teh same strings. This works quite wel for me as I can get a (slightly) toned down roundwound sound with flats on it and the Swampy sounds liek a double bass..... I'm really excited to see what the 3rd one sounds like when it clears customs...... From a tactile point of view they are simply gorgeous. B. -
PM'd you again...... Good luck...
-
I'll put you on the list.........
-
Slightly odd shape... But if you get on with that, they play great and sound even better.....
-
Odub..... You out there? Anyone know Odub personally? I need to get intouch with him...... Bob.

PRS IVs THREE of 'em (absolutely goergeous)
The Burpster replied to The Burpster's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I cannot wax lyrical enough about them..... they are simply everything you'd expect of a 4 string........ -
Not played a Sandberg but have played a Clover, and played with a Marleaux..... definately the Clover for me, if I wasnt emotionally attached to PRSs it'd be Clovers... Beautifully crafted and play very nicley.....
-
Both the above are correct you could convert the Squier to active.... You could put 'hotter' passive pups in as well..... (like SD 1/4pounders but there is loads of other options) that wil make a definate improvement..... These options will cost you of course .....
