1. Tom, by gum it is likely. You can get dry joints or broken wires anywhere...... The nasty end of teh spectrum is that there could be broken winding in teh pick up but lets look at the obvious first! Do you have a multi meter..?
2. sounds like a coil tap to me.... (gives a different amount of turns to teh full amount) but really you need to check with the maker of teh new one to find out for sure.
3. Sounds like a dry solder joint or broken wire..... Have you checked these...?
4.
And the Ovation's pretty good
Chris, it is very good, but sadly I have only so much space and tolerance from my partner.... I want another PRS = one has to go ! Sadly the Ovation is the one, as at some point in the future that EUB sound I'm after will actually be an EUB!
5. I use the PRS stuff, its really good, but also Ernie Ball and Gibson make very good stuff. If I'm doing a repair job I use Autoglym (Maguires similar stuff!)to get a real finish then finally with the PRS polish....
6. Si, the best I found.... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=67238 Bob.
7. Guys, both the P's have moved on. The 40th anni is with a collector of Fenders in Brum. the blk P was a Highway one (there is a thread on the build) it is no more! t'was killed by baggage handlers whilst with Voxpop! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=highway the pickgaurd was custom made by me!
8. The Ovation is now spoken for by my guitarist ..... And as the GAS for the '89 PRS has been quelled by the owner not having the heart to part ( I can well unsertand this) when I get the dosh for teh Ovation I shall be taking a trip to 'ol Camdon tarn' to get me a Steiny EUB!
9.
Calling The Burpster...
Oooooooh it would be rude not too wouldnt it....! Dodge, PM sent...! Oh and I'm surprised none of you others didnt PM me........
10. `` I believe you will have most of your question answered in this thread from about 2 weeks ago....... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=62833
11. My effort done sometime ago and moved onto a fellow BCer, then killed dead by baggage handlers at an airport! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=highway
12. Sounds like a plan!
13.
I'm assuming basses with twin pickups are designed to change sound characteristics switching between the pups with no difference in level.
Thats exactly how the PRS works, I cant vouch for the G&L tribute but even if its not set up correctly a wee bit of tinkering should have that set up balanced pretty quickly.
14. Must............. resist.........
15.
Ahh, erm . . . some confusion here. As I also visit "The Dark Side" (playing guitar - you know, those tiny things with cheese wire on - usually attached to God's Gift to women) my "Viper" is a 70's GUITAR. Sorry if you got a bit excited!!! Cheers. Flat Eric.
Booooooooooo ......... ssssssssssssss! Bad man! I thought for a glorious minute that someone else had a Viper bass...... rare as rockin' 'oss poop! I soooooo want a mint black one!
16. Just get one that's made of decent bits and put together well, and we'll sort the sound out when you get back...... They are eminently pimpable..... (I'll get mi soldering iron warmed up!)
17.
I found Fender UK very helpful, when I needed some bits for my Viper - they are the Ovation people in the UK - they may be able to put you onto an original item.
No way - You have a Viper....? Pics please.. is it a CCB or black...? I've been after a blk one for ages. My CCB in the middle of these.
18. Looks like a Radley handbag to me..... personal tastes or strange fings eh..!
19. I nearly crapped myself laffing at this....., Thanks for posting it...
20. I've tried Rotos but they are a dubious gauge, I now use GHS 45-100s on my Ovation. They make a wonderful EUBlike thud or plunk sound....
21.
With respect to a Global Mod, thats just weird! Even doctor_of_the_bass with his 66 basses still has GAS
Well I guess if you push me, I would like the waiting list to be waaay shorter for HG Thor for one of my necks.... but otherwise I have 4 PRSs and while they all have subtle differences they fulfill my opinion of perfection. I 'kinda' want a Steinberger CR4M EUB, but will at some point in the future do that for sure...... so you see I'm quite blissfully happy.
22. Sorry but I have all of mine.......
23. That's soooooo close to a PRS it hurts!
24.
Yes - I'm pretty sure that's what Pedula use... and looking at the pictures on the HG Thor pictures and the dicolouration it gives on the inlaid fret markings (once the frets have been removed), it seems to *suggest* polyester.
When you speak with Harris when he puts you on the waiting list you discuss what you would like done and the possibilties are staggering. If you have seen "discolouration" its not! It is what the customer ordered. He can do pretty much any colour lines you want if he is de-fretting as he will dye the wood strips if thats what you want. the hardest option to remove frets and fill teh lines and make them look like the original fret board, this is beacuse any piece of wood that is used as an infil wil have the grain runing at 90degs to the original fingerboard. A projocted 18month wait is a bit of a bummer tho'......
25. Chris, I'm on the waiting list for an HG Thor conversion to one of my PRSs. Whilst it is a long old slog waiting I am excited to see what it will be like..... Now that is going to be one Unique bass.....
