This wonderful bass is [u]almost[/u] perfect for me, so i feel like a bit of a nitpicker offering it here. I bought it from a fellow basschatter, and it sounds just fantastic. However, the neck is shallower than I was hoping for (I was expecting the same chunky neck as the Tribute) and i find I prefer a 'warmer' fingerboard than ebony. Ideally, if anybody has an L2000 Tribute with a rosewood board and would like to trade up (with cash my way) that would be great. I know I'd have to defret it. Failing that, an outright sale would have to be £750. I would consider trades for a four string fretless, but they'd have to be pretty good to equal the L2000. I wanted to defret a bass without leaving fretlines. Here's what I did: Defretted, then filled in 7/8ths of the fretlines with walnut wood filler Sanded the board, then stained it with Ronseal black ebony woodstain Sanded again, then filled the ends of the fretlines with maple woodfiller Coated the board with Rustin's plastic resin finish This has resulted in an unlined fretless board with 'cheat' lines on the top edge, and very hard wearing. You have to look quite closely to tell it's not the original finish. It sounds great with La Bella flats on, although I'm selling it with some budget rounds on. I want £100 delivered for this. The bass itself I got on here from Mr Foxen in exchange for the Wishbass with woodworm. It's in excellent condition. I'm having trouble uploading pics. I will email them to any interested parties, and try to fix the problem meantime.

These wonderful preamps have been in my fretted and fretless Prosebasses for only a few months. They both work wonderfully, and the range of tones is staggering (particularly on the fretless). I've come to realise, though, that I have just settled on one setting each, as I don't like to fiddle too much. The other reason for sale is that I need to finance a purchase I've just made here on Basschat. Both are in as new condition. One is for a two pickup configuration, the other for a single pickup (which can be easily adapted for twin pickups with help from Alan at ACG). They come with instructions and a set of knobs each- one black,one chrome (first come, first served) I would like £85 posted for each. This is half the new price, and is a real bargain (honest guv) I haven't posted pics cos they're still in the basses, and are exactly as in the ACG shop pictures, but I will post them if needed. Not sure, I don't have any scales. On the heavy side of medium I would say, if that's any help at all.

You'll enjoy the story on this one, if nothing else. I bought this last year, as a project, imported from the States, all legal like. It's a very beautiful bass (I think), made from really gorgeous persimmon (American ebony), with an authentic chunk missing in the upper bout! I have shaped the bass, and applied half a dozen coats of Danish Oil, which has brought out the grain beautifully. The 'hole' in the upper bout I lined with gold ink (for that hidden treasure look) then varnished thoroughly, so that nothing more is coming out. I sanded the fingerboard flat, oiled it, then covered it with Rustin's resin finish, which gives a lovely smooth satin look, really hard finish. I then fitted straplocks, and Thomastik Infeld flatwound strings. The result is a bass which sounds wonderful. The tone is deep and clear (it's a great pickup, that can be coil-tapped), and it growls like a grumpy pit bull. The neck is a lovely thick chunk, that has a steel rod in for strength. SO, that's all the positives. Here come the negatives- 1. The bass arrived with a snapped headstock, due to poor packaging. I glued and clamped it, and it has worked fine ever since, but it looks like it's been in the wars. I used some maple wood filler here and there, which shows. 2. I attempted some improvements to the electronics, fitting a coil-tap switch, and a tone knob. These both worked well enough to show me the potential, but I couldn't do it properly (small cavity, thick fingers, lack of patience), and made myself give up when I started snapping at my wife. So there are four holes drilled, but only one occupied (I wired the pickup straight to the jack) 3. And this is the kicker- it has woodworm!! Some of those telltale little holes have appeared around the break in the headstock. It's a first in my experience- a bass with woodworm (could I claim that as relicing?) I know nothing about woodworm, and no time/inclination to learn. It might be an easy fix, but I can't cope with any more surprises, so I'm cutting my losses. So it's for sale at £95.00. That's way less than I paid, and I've spent a fair bit on it, but if there's a bass playing, woodworm expert, part-time luthier reading this, I've got your next project! I'm also open to trades for a four string fretless, preferably with a chunky neck. Thanks for reading!
