1. Having just picked up a new bass acquisition from the brand that shall not be named, I immediately realise I need to get that bloody treble pup cover off. Can any one point me in the right direction on where to get one of the after market pup surrounds please? Ta
2.
IME it's unless you have access to a business account that sees plenty of international use, it's simply not possible to arrange shipping from the US to the UK from the UK as cheaply as it would if it was organised and sent from the US.
I'm certainly getting this impression.
3. Yes I would much prefer if he arranged the shipping. I'll try again but he wasn't keen previously and isn't the most chatty in our emails! I'd love to show some pics but the deal is not finalised yet and I don't want to jinx it. I've lost out before y'see. All I can say is it's very black with some sexy chrome
4. He is happy to ship but originally as a domestic US sale.
5. Hey all. First off, I have had a look at other threads here, but I'm just fishing for some up to date advice/guides. I've agreed to buy a bass from a private seller in the US and I'm looking at shipping back to the UK, but it doesn't seem as easy as I had hoped. Interparcel online only gives me one quote for FedEx and nothing else. Has anyone recently arranged shipping and can point me in the right direction to a courier that has come through for them? I don't necessarily want cheap and cheerful! Oh and yes.. I am fully aware that I'm going to get the red hot poker up the jacksey otherwise known as import duty etc!!
6. Did anyone one here pick this one up in the end? The guitar store is local to me so I dropped in this morning to have a look and damn me but they had just sold it 30 mins before! They wouldn't let me play it, but I had a look and it is such a lovely genuine used vintage P. It was a local old chap's who recently had died and his family were selling it. Interestingly the ticket price was £1399.
7. It's a pity I don't have a local store that I could go into and try and do the deal there. Still not sure what to do. I'd buy from the place I want to use as the price match if only they did Sat delivery. My work at the mo means there is no chance of a week day delivery, nor can I think of someone I could hassle to take the delivery for me either. Maybe I should look at trying to arrange my own delivery but I'm sure that'll bite me in the wallet!
8. Ah now, this is my exact worry. When it comes to price matching, all interest in professional customer service seems to go out the window. The fact that you have dared to take them up on their offer seems to automatically remove you from the "valued customer" bracket and you are reduced to something stuck on the shoe status. Adding the fact that I'd be buying remotely and not actually seeing the item I'm buying, I would be concerned that I'd end up with a scabby ex-demo foisted on me that then becomes a nightmare in waiting as I try to return it..etc!! Pity, it's the convenience of a Saturday delivery that really attracted me.
9. Thanks, soiunds promising. I'll test them out on their price match later then and see how that goes!
10. Hi all Just wondering if anyone has bought from PMT recently and what they are like regarding customer relations? They quote online as offering a price match and they have a cab I want that I have seen significantly cheaper elsewhere. I want to use them as they offer a Saturday delivery y'see Thanks Mark
11. Eastern European maybe? Not seen it's like before. http://www.ebay.co.u..._fvi%3D1&_rdc=1
12. Well I would imagine it's a very playable bass and if I had a pot to piss in then I'd love a punt for it but i bet some serious fans with plenty of bunce will drive the bids hard.
13. Well, here's something for the avid JJ Burnel fans! The Stranglers are auctioning off some of their kit and JJ's Kinkade acoustic bass, used in the 80's and onwards is in the mix. http://www.stranglers.net/Auction.html Low low starting price but I bet it'll rocket!!
14. I want the 8 ohm version of this cab. I wonder if a 4 ohm can be rewired?? It's still an outrageous bargain though!
15. Just down the road so eyes and ears peeled, though I imagine if it'll be out of the local area by now. I wonder if the thieves were after the Merc and the gear just happened to be in the back?
16. Thumbs up for Sami and Hanoi Rocks!! There certainly have been white T'birds in the last few years, you just may have to be patient if you're looking for a used one.
17. Paul Grey.. a very melodic bass player. An all time bass hero for me
18. I am disgusted!! That's the most washed out fireglo I've ever seen!!
19.
I saw him in March, and it was the best live bass sound I've ever heard - growled like a monster, clear, precise....totally JJB!
But..but.. he uses Ashdown and EVERYBODY knows Ashdown sounds wooly.. (That's sarcasm BTW!!)
20. Custom colour factory re-finish?? Hmmm I bet it's an aftermarket re-fin. If I had te cash available I'd be down there in a flash to have a look.
21. Ahh, I had a Fender cab very similar to this in the early 80's, IIRC it was a 4 x 12 with the drivers angled but I think they were all pointed inwards to sort of give a cone of sound. It was never that loud but it did look great, big silver cloth grille too.
22.
That's exactly what I do, it's gentle but seems to take out all those little scuffs & scratches without damaging the surrounding. In fact you can use it on any surface - metal, wood painted or varnish etc. Cheerz, John
I wonder if I could work some of the scratches out of my fav sunglasses? This could be a great cure all!!!
23.
If he's rubbed it back ready to cut then that's fine but if you've got it back and the last step he "completed" was just spraying it, then you'll have to rub it back to flatten it yourself first - there's absolutely no point cutting it if it's not flat. Not knowing what grade he got it up to, I'm guessing this wasn't a pro job or he would have finished it properly for you, then 1000+ (wet) might be worth a pop. I take mine up to 1500 before my final buff.
Not a pro job, but he has made five or six various guitars for himself all to a very good standard. From what I understand it had it's final coat which he has let cure and then passed it over to me as I was hassling him a bit!! The finish isn't "smooth" it looks a little more satin than gloss. I want to take it easy and not bugger it up so I guess my heavy hands need to go with as finer wet&dry as I can without making it an endless task.
