1. That does sound spot on John as I need that little bit of a cutting bite in it. I imagine it could be usuefull for working on a few light body scratches on other things too. Ta
2.
Stagg bass strings have smaller, guitar sized ball ends. D.
Ooh! That's handy. The Aria electro-acoustic bass I have seems to need smaller ball ends to fit in the wooden tailpiece.
3. Oh matron!! Actually, I've just got a neck back from a friend who nitro laquered it for me but he said I just need to give it a final rub down to bring up the shine. He did mention what to use, but I forgot and now he's out of the country and I don't want to hassle him. Advice?? Ta.
4. It was the upsurge of punk that first opened my ears to music and specifically hearing the bass intro to Neat Neat Neat by The Damned on the radio (John Peel or Stuart Henry on Radio Luxembourg, can't recall which). That made me suddenly sit up and listen and dive into punkl. It also made me want to play that intro (badly on my sister's acoustic guitar). I quickly discovered the Ramones after that and found I could play along to the bass lines.. I could play a whole album!! I could make a coherant row! I also picked up The Stranglers first album and again, that was a major eye opener. Bass, in your face, rude and raw but fancy too. JJ became my aspiration. '77 was my epiphany year.
5. Sounds like a family catering sized can of worms. I do appreciate all your input and certainly do realise that if it ever did get to the point of a legal claim that we'd be in a financial ass biting situation. In a somewhat obtuse view point, if our work was copied than I suppose that would be a sort os stamp of approval of waht we created!
6.
I did do a review sometime last year, http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...t&p=1027411 Mine is a prototype no.2 the first two which were made no.1 went to Adam Clayton and I snapped the 2nd one. I don't even have a serial number on mine!
Ta
7. The material was originally recorded on an eight track HD desk and I then took the tracks on to my PC, fiddled with them on there and then saved them as WAVs and finally wrote a number of audio CD's for friends to review, so I guess we have the digital date thing covered,
8. Envy! Have you done a review on your amp? Love to know your thoughts on it.
9.
Don't waste your money on any of those. By the time you get to opening the envelope in court or getting a lawyer to produce it, you'll be thousands of pounds into legal costs. The important bit is that copyright only exists when recorded - that means fixed in any permanent form, not necessarily a musical recording (so a transcription or scribble would be valid) - any way you can evidence that will be fine, but don't waste money on any of these copyright protection services. Will expand more on this later
Yes please Lenny.
10. Thanks everyone. Maybe the CD with a solicitor route would be a good one.
11. Flyfisher, from what I've heard the sending your material to yourself routine isn't foolproof (for reasons I don't know as yet) which is why we've been digging a little deeper but it would seem to be the best place to start but have a second option in place too. ZMech, I'll have a read of the Gov page thanks.
12. My singer and I have been writing some original material, we've recorded it and are now close to the position of sending them off to try and get some music industry notice. Our issue at the moment is copyrighting. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way of getting our material protected from the possibilty of theft? My singer (not the most web savvy) came up with the following link - copyrighthouse.co.uk I've had a look at it and to me it looks decidely amature. A single page, yards of waffling text, a few testemonials and lots of scrolling before you get to the price, which seems too cheap. Just looks somewhat scammy to me. Anything to help this stage of our creative journey would be fantastic.
13. Pub gigs? Plug it in, turn it on, makes a bass noise? Fine, bass back on stand and out for a smoke.
14. Well maybe have the head for sale as an option too, especially if you are thinking of moving it on at some point. As you know, I'll likely take the 4x10 off your hands if you get a sale for the 1x15 separately
15. A bump is where someone (or yourself) adds a comment to the post to "bump" it back up to the front page of the section in case it's been overlooked. I think it's poor etiquette to do it too often though!!
16. Thanks guys. I like the idea of a pie tray.. shove it in your pie hole!! Anyway, this is for a Les Paul Junior copy, single P90. The earth lead is from the bridge and runs into the control cavity where it's contected to one of the pots. If I do shield the cavities, will I need to take a lead off the earth wire to connect directly to the shielding material? I would keep the earth connecting to a pot too.
17. This is where memory fails me, but wasn't John Lydon's brother part of The Bollock Brothers?
18. I need to shield the pick up cavity (mumble..in a guitar..mumble) and was wondering why not use aluminium cooking foil? The back of many pickguards use what I imagine is aluminium foil, so is there any reason not to use it for a cavity? I don't have any copper foil and just want to get on with my upgrades.
19. The only way I can do it successfully I have to be able to play the song with no issues, know it off pat, then I can concentrate on my singing and it needs to be a fairly straight for tune. Again though, if it's a bass line that has some interesting timing off the beat, that causes me big problems.
20. And me too... another who has got a P bass wiring harness from John. Ordered on Tuesday, arrived today. It's a lovely, tidy piece of work and for a soldering cretin like me, it's a bloomin' God send!! Thanks again John. Mark
21. Just watched it. So, when is it going to pop up on ebay?? I suppose the issue is the provenance.. an email from Monte Melnick might not cut the mustard. Still the offers were insulting. As for that t*t saying another (what Ramones bass.. guitar) sold in 2005 for $535, well I really don't think he knew what he was talking about. If I had the money, I would buy. Dee Dee was an iconic bass player and I cut my bass playing teeth thumping along to the first Ramones albums, though I would prefer one of the earlier ones!
22. Hey Chris!! Please, if you could put my name on the PG should it be in position to be sold, would be obliged. The Black Banana? Well I'm just getting a wiring harness from John (KiOgon) as my chewing gum soldering is an embaressing nightmare! The neck is so damn lively!! I have a replacement that I'm getting laquered so I can get gigging it again. That pickguard would be for this one too as I managed to crack the orignal... hmm, just wondering.. the Black Banana didn't happen to be at the opening of Tutenkhamun's tomb did it?!?!?
