1. Hi OK I have had a dig around in the courier guide and other threads, but as a quick and dirty, could anyone give me a guide to the cost of shipping a bass in a hardshell case from the US to UK. I am hoping to argue the guy selling the Ric I want to ship, but I need an idea of the nasty shipping costs. So a Ric 4003 in it's case.. insured to a value of let's say £1800. (not looking for dodgy budget nonsense!!!!). Ta muchly
2. I mean, if he is shipping in the US then he'll have to package it well to withstand possibly a good 1000 miles + in the back of various delivery trucks. So what's the deal with packing it to go on a plane? He'll have collected by a courier to take to the airport anyway. Pfffft
3. So where are you based and what stuff are you doing?
4. It's breaking my heart..... I've even started to ask a few people at work if they have close relatives in the States that would help.
5. Ohhhh!! I thought my so far fruitless search was about to come to an end - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...mMakeTrack=true but the seller will only ship in the US.. BOOOOOOO!!! Anyone happen to be in the US in the next few days?!?!?!
6. It's an "it" for me. The "she" thing does make sense to me. Not with boats, cars etc either.
7. Hmm.. the BTA 300 could just be spot on, will it be an Ampeg 300 SVT CL killer? Hate to think what the pricing will be though
8. Here's a couple of pics he's emailed me. Not much better! The shot of the body looks like the jack end of the scratchplate has been broken at some point and if this is a '74 wouldn't there be a screw in the middle of the scratchplate too? As is, the serial number - s746580 - is a 77 or 78, so he's got the year somewhat wrong. I did ask some other questions about originality, if he has pics of the neck pocket and the neck stamp but nothing on those. Not feeling overly comfortable about this seeing as I'm not going to get a chance to see it first.
9.
I was there too, ears ringing for days afterwards............Killed by Death - Brilliant
Or "Killed By Deaf" ... I'll get me coat...
10. I'm not sure what type of system it is. I'm thinking unpluging the mic would trip it so that option may be out. Maybe a combo of bar towel and turning the mic the other way might help. They say they have had bands and dicsos there before.. but that doesn't really prove anything.
11. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...sid=p2761.l1259 Not much info, crappy pics.. has to be too good to be true?!?! What do you think? I have a hankering for an early - late 70's P in B/B/M. I have asked for the seller to email me more pics, so we'll see what arrives.
12. Glad you enjoyed it Mr Marlin! And good to hear DV made an effort! I am kicking myself that I didn't do the Bournemouth gig now. Ah well, seeing the NY Dolls on Sunday
13. We have an up and coming corporate do (for where I work) and I had a look at the venue and damn me but they have one hanging from the ceiling about 10ft from the stage area. I was wondering if whether we could unplug the mic from the cable where it is fixed to the ceiling, or turn the mic so it faces away from the band, or possibly gaffa a bar towel around the mic. Do you think the later might work? It's ceratinly going to muffle what is picked up. I'm stressed about it now as I'm up on stage in front of my peers, work mates and some higher management! Wonder if ther'll be a P45 waiting for me at the end of the gig!
14. I've got a very old 200w 15" ABM combo. One of the first couple of hundred apparently. It's been a good amp but has given me some problems in the last couple of years (home practice only with it now) where the volume just drops away almost totaly. If you turn it on and off a couple of times then it's OK again, but no idea for how long. Also sometimes when turning it on it buzzes badly, again the on/off trick usually works. Not investigated what the problem is. Otherwise, I've had no problems with it. A good solid old amp.
15.
Last time i saw The Damned was at the Glasgow Apollo when they toured The Black Album, they had began to dispappear up their areholes by that time but it was a sh*t hot gig with loads of dry ice as i recall. Think it may have been some band with Keith Levine in it that supported...or was it Lydons brother' band?, know that they had some sort of PIL connection or other.
Hey, that rings a bell with me. I saw The Damned doing the Black Album tour too, and now you mention it, I think the support had Keith levine in it.. I seem to remember a name The Straps.. but I'm not sure. Off to do some research!
16. If this is still for sale, give The Marlin a PM mate. I know he is def in the market for something like this. Cheers (oh and bumpity bump!)
17. It really does amaze me how completely thick some people are when it comes to this sort of thing. Presumably they have never had something sent to them thrown in a brown paper bag with illiterate scribble on the front for an address. Either that or they are looking for a few extra quid in over priced P&P. I always send an email when I buy something to ask the seller to really package it well as we have a really bad post office here who are very careless and stuff gets damaged if not packed well. The postie here as actually really good.. but it's handy to thrown in a bit of bull!
18. What in the name of God is JPJ playing in that second vid clip above of them live? Some fruity slide contraption. I would be much happier/acceptant of this project if they had a different front man. I just don't find Josh H cuts the mustard.. that and he just seems sooo ungainly!
19. What I don't get with these relic re-fins is why not do the colour as it appear after 40+ years? You've gone to the effort of making it look worn and used, then why not go for that luvverly nicotine yellow that Oly whites go? I do sort of like this one though.. but not for that price and the aging job is a bit much.
20. I have exactly the same as this bass and I can confirm it's a fantastic bass. The neck is quite wide but great to play and the hot rodded PUPs makes sense as if you look at the pole pieces you can see they are oversized, similar to SPB3 QPs and it has big sound. Had to repalce the bridge on mine as it's very corroded, and I changed the control knobs. No case with mine but I feel £400 is a fair deal for this bass especially as it's a bit different from the rest. It's all black and very sexxxxay!
21. Do you have the original black plate it would have come with? I'm not a tort man.
22. +1 for Roqsolid. They tailored one up for my Ashdown Classic head some time back and it's great. Give em a shot.
23.
I bet the ugly stick snapped when it hit that bass
I think it was actually made from the bloody ugly tree itself!
